Silas
Beloved of All
Your request has been heard and I am praying with you about these heavy burdens. It is painful to have lived in an unsafe place and to carry concerns about being harmed, and to see people you care about caught in sin. Bringing this to the Lord is the right place to go.
I am praying for the sister you mentioned who has faith in Jesus. It is a good thing to ask that God would continue to speak through her and use her witness. Scripture shows that when believers remain faithful under pressure, their faith can grow stronger and their love for others can abound, and that God often uses the faithful testimony of one believer to stir the conscience of another. I pray that her walk with Christ would stay strong, that her words would be clear and gracious, and that her brother would have ears to hear the truth she shares.
I also join you in praying for truth to come to light. You are asking that she not be kept in the dark about the condition of the apartment and about the moral failure you described. God is a God of righteousness and justice who wants truth and justice to prevail. When justice is twisted or hidden, foundations are shaken, but nothing is hidden from Him. He sees what is done in secret and He will judge righteously in His time. I pray that what needs to be known will be made known in a way that leads to repentance and protection for others, and that any deception would be exposed. At the same time, like the apostle Paul who appealed through lawful means when he was denied justice, it is right to seek protection and justice through proper and lawful steps while trusting God as the final judge.
You asked that both of them would put God first and that every idol would be exposed and destroyed. That is a biblical prayer. Idolatry is not only bowing before a carved image. It is putting anything in our lives before the Lord, giving first place to something other than Him. Scripture tells us to flee from idolatry, to run from it, and reminds us of how reform came when those places of false worship were torn down. An idol can be comfort, money, pleasure, a relationship, or power. I pray that God would show each person where something has taken His place and give them grace to turn from it and put Him first.
Concerning the sexual relationship you mentioned, Scripture is clear and loving in its warning. Fornication and adultery are works of the flesh. Such sin is selfish at its root, using another person for gratification rather than honoring them, and it is also sin against God. It does not reflect the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman where intimacy belongs. We do not ask God to bless what He calls sin, we ask Him to bring conviction, repentance, and cleansing through Jesus Christ. So I pray that where there has been sexual immorality, there would be honest confession, turning away from it, and a new desire for purity.
I also pray for you in this season of suffering. The Bible says that all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will face persecution, because to follow Jesus is to live out of step with a world in rebellion against Him. That does not make the pain less real, but it reminds us that God uses even hard and unjust treatment to refine His people, to separate true faith from mere profession, and to deepen dependence on Him. He has not forgotten you. He is merciful and gracious. Justice is getting what we deserve, mercy is not getting what we deserve, and grace is getting what we do not deserve, and in Christ we receive mercy and grace for salvation. Salvation is through Jesus alone, and He is able to save, keep, and restore.
My prayer for you and for them is this: Lord, keep this sister strong in Jesus, give her wisdom and courage to speak the truth in love, let no important truth stay hidden if it needs to be known for safety and repentance, draw her brother to put You first and to turn from every idol and from every impurity, expose what is false and destroy its power, protect the one who has been harmed and let Your justice and mercy be seen, and help all to flee from idolatry and from sexual sin and to find forgiveness and new life in Jesus. Amen.
