The former landlord's Christian sister

Please pray for the former landlord's sister, who has faith in Jesus. Pray that God continues to speak through her, and that her positive influence will change the former landlord. Pray that she is not kept in the dark about the life-threatening apartment that her brother rented to me, and about the evil, immoral woman who had a sexual relationship with the former landlord and most likely hired people to try to kill me.

Please also pray that they both put God first and that our Mighty and Powerful God exposes and destroys every idol!!

We join you in lifting up this burden before the Lord in Jesus' name and we thank you for sharing this difficult situation with us. We hear your concern for the former landlord's sister who has faith in Jesus, and your desire that the truth be brought into the light and that both the former landlord and his sister would put God first above all else.

We agree with you that God can use a faithful believer as a vessel to speak truth and to be a godly influence. Scripture tells us that we are to have no fellowship with the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather even reprove them, Ephesians 5:11. We also take comfort that nothing is hidden that will not be revealed, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light, Luke 8:17. It is right to pray that deception and darkness be exposed, for he who conceals his sins doesn't prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy, Proverbs 28:13. We pray that the sister is not kept in the dark about the life threatening condition of the apartment that was rented to you, and about the serious matters you have described.

We must also address what you have shared about the sexual relationship between the former landlord and this woman. According to scripture, sexual intimacy outside of marriage between a man and a woman is fornication and if either party is married to another it is adultery, and both are sin before God. We are commanded to flee sexual immorality, for every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body, 1 Corinthians 6:18. We pray that if this immorality has occurred, that there would be conviction, repentance and a turning away from it, for God calls all to purity and holiness. We also hear the gravity of your concern that this woman may have hired people to try to harm you. This is evil in the sight of God and we pray for your protection and for God's justice. We do not seek vengeance ourselves, for it is written, vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord, Romans 12:19, but we do pray that God would restrain evil, protect the innocent, and bring wrongdoers to repentance or to justice.

We also join you in praying that every idol would be exposed and destroyed. God has commanded, you shall have no other gods before me, Exodus 20:3, and we are exhorted to keep ourselves from idols, 1 John 5:21. Whether an idol is money, power, influence, or an immoral relationship, we pray that both the former landlord and his sister would seek first God's Kingdom and his righteousness, Matthew 6:33, and put God on the throne of their lives.

Father in heaven, we come before you in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name by which we have access to you and no other name by which we are saved. We lift up the sister of the former landlord to you, we thank you for her faith in Jesus and we ask that you would strengthen her, fill her with wisdom and boldness, and continue to speak through her. Let her be a light in her family and let her positive godly influence bring conviction and change. Lord, we ask that you bring all hidden things into the light. Do not allow truth about this life threatening apartment and about the evil deeds connected to it to remain concealed. Expose what needs to be exposed according to your perfect will. We pray for the former landlord, that you would draw him to yourself, open his eyes to any sin, including fornication and any participation in renting a dangerous dwelling, and lead him to repentance and to putting you first. We pray for protection over the one who submitted this request, that you would be a refuge and fortress, for he who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty, Psalm 91:1. Guard this life from every attempt of the enemy to harm, and let no weapon formed against your child prosper. Lord, destroy every idol in these lives that competes with you, and establish your lordship. We trust your justice, your mercy and your power to redeem. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

We encourage you to continue to walk in faith, to trust the Lord to be your defender and to keep praying for the salvation and transformation of those involved. The Lord is faithful and he hears the prayers of his people.

We appreciate you bringing this difficult situation to us. Going through a rental that felt unsafe and left you feeling threatened is a heavy burden to carry, and we hear your heart for truth to come to light and for God to be put first in this family.

If you have not already, you might consider sharing any documented concerns about the apartment with a trusted local housing resource or appropriate authority, and staying connected with a pastor or another trusted person nearby who can walk with you in person and help you sort next steps.

Father, we lift our friend to You and ask for Your protection, peace and clear guidance. We pray for this sister and her brother, that You would lead them to seek You first and to walk in truth. Your burden has been laid before the Lord and we join you in prayer for these matters, asking that God will be glorified in truth and righteousness.

We thank God for the sister of whom you speak, who has faith in Jesus Christ, for salvation is through Him alone. We pray that the Lord will keep her faithful as one of His hidden ones, hidden for safety and for quiet service, and that He will give her courage to speak the truth in love. Religion is not a thing for chapels alone but for daily life and dealings between persons, and we ask that her life and words may be a clear witness in her brother's house, that her influence may be used by the Spirit to call to repentance and to a true putting of God first.

We pray for the former landlord, that the goodness of God which has spared him may lead him to repentance. True repentance is not a transient sorrow for consequences but a hatred of sin as sin and a turning from it with purpose of heart. Where there has been sin in renting to you a dwelling that was life threatening, and where there has been sexual immorality outside the covenant of marriage, which God ordained as a lifelong union of one man and one woman with all intimacy belonging within it, we do not ask God to bless that path but we pray that He will bring conviction, that what is hidden in darkness will be brought to light, and that every idol will be exposed and broken by His Word which is as a fire and a hammer. We ask that the Lord will uncover the truth concerning the apartment and concerning the wrong you have suffered, that justice may be done and that deceit may not remain concealed from those who ought to know it, including his sister, as you have asked.

We pray also concerning the woman of whom you speak and the grave wrong you fear, that the Lord who sees all things will protect you from every attempt to harm you, that He will restrain evil, bring truth to light, and lead all involved to repentance and to forsaking of sin. Vengeance belongs to the Lord, and we ask Him to be your refuge and defense. When the brooks are dried up He still has a place of refuge for His people, and if there is no refuge on earth He will make one in His own presence. We pray He will provide for you a safe habitation and daily provision as you put all into His hands and choose what is right rather than what is expedient.

We pray for you, that you may know the peace of Him who bore sin for sinners, that repentance and faith may be yours in full measure, and that you may see idols destroyed in your own heart as well as in the lives of others, so that Christ alone is Master there.

O Mighty and Powerful God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy and bring all things into Thy light. Sustain Thy daughter who walks with Thee and make her voice clear and loving for truth. Grant to her brother and to all concerned godly sorrow for sin that needeth not to be repented of, and faith to lay hold on Christ who is set forth as a propitiation for sin. Expose what is hidden, destroy every idol that exalts itself against Thee, and teach all to put Thee first. Cover Thy servant who has been wronged with Thy protection, deliver from every evil intent, provide a safe dwelling and all things needful, and keep this one from unbelief and despair. Lead all to repentance and to remission of sins through the blood of Jesus, that Thy name may be hallowed. Amen.
