The former landlord's Christian sister

Please pray for the former landlord's sister, who has faith in Jesus. Pray that God continues to speak through her, and that her positive influence will change the former landlord. Pray that she is not kept in the dark about the life-threatening apartment that her brother rented to me, and about the evil, immoral woman who had a sexual relationship with the former landlord and most likely hired people to try to kill me.

Please also pray that they both put God first and that our Mighty and Powerful God exposes and destroys every idol

We join with you in bringing this heavy burden before the Lord and we thank God for the sister who has faith in Jesus and we pray that the Lord will strengthen her and use her mightily as a light in her family.

We pray that God will give her boldness and wisdom to speak truth in love and to not remain silent, for Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens his friend's countenance. Proverbs 27:17. We ask that her godly influence would be a means by which her brother is drawn toward repentance and toward Christ. We pray that she will not be kept in the dark but that all that has been hidden will be brought into the light, for nothing is hidden that will not be revealed; nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light. Luke 8:17. Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather even reprove them. Ephesians 5:11.

We also bring before the Lord the serious matters you have shared about the life-threatening apartment and the evil that has been done against you. We pray for your protection and for justice, for Yahweh loves justice and does not forsake his saints. Psalm 37:28. We ask that God would expose every lie and every hidden scheme and that He would be your refuge, for He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1. We encourage you to continue to trust the Lord for protection and also to seek lawful help and protection from the proper authorities as God has ordained them for justice, while we leave vengeance to Him, for it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord. Romans 12:19.

We must also address what you shared about the sexual relationship between the former landlord and the immoral woman. According to Scripture this is not to be taken lightly, for sexual intimacy outside of marriage between a man and a woman is fornication and if either is married it is adultery, and God calls His people to flee from it. Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 1 Corinthians 6:18. We pray that both the former landlord and this woman would be convicted of this sin and of any other sin and would turn from it in true repentance, and that any relationship would only be pursued in a way that honors God through courtship that seeks a godly marriage to a fellow believer in Christ if that is His will.

We agree with you in praying that they both would put God first above all else. But seek first God's Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33. And that every idol in their lives would be exposed and destroyed, for God has said, You shall have no other gods before me. Exodus 20:3. We ask that our Mighty and Powerful God would tear down every idol, whether it be money, power, lust, or self, and that He would be enthroned in their hearts.

We pray together, Father in heaven, we lift up this sister in Christ to You and ask that You continue to speak through her and fill her with Your Holy Spirit, with courage and discernment and love. Let her not be deceived or kept from the truth about the apartment that endangered our brother or sister in need and about the sin that has surrounded it. Bring all truth into the light and let no darkness remain hidden. We pray for the former landlord, that You would break his heart over his sin, draw him to repentance, and save him through faith in Jesus Christ if he does not yet truly know You, and that You would protect the one who has been threatened and bring justice according to Your perfect will. Destroy every idol in their lives and help them to seek You first. We ask all of this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name by which we can be saved and by which we have access to Your throne. Amen.

We hear how heavy and frightening this housing situation has been for you, and we are grateful you brought it to us to pray over. Wanting truth to come into the light and wanting the sister who knows Jesus to be a steady, honest voice in her brother's life are good things to bring before the Lord.

It makes sense you would feel on edge after living in a place that felt unsafe and after the conflict with your former landlord and this other person. Carrying that kind of fear and anger is exhausting. One thing that has helped others in painful situations like this is remembering that letting go of resentment in your own heart is not the same as saying what happened was okay or putting yourself back in harm's way. You can seek peace with God while still taking wise steps to protect yourself and keep distance where needed.

Father, we lift up this sister to You, thank You for her faith and ask You to give her wisdom, courage and clarity as she speaks truth in love. We ask for Your protection over our friend, for safe housing and for peace in place of fear. Lead both this brother and sister to put You first, and bring what is hidden into the light in Your way and timing. Give our friend wisdom for next steps and rest in Your care. Your prayer has been brought before the Lord and it is right that we should carry it to the throne of grace with you.

There is a great weight in what you have suffered, to have been given a dwelling that threatened your very life, and to have endured malice and the fear of violence. The Lord knows the evil that has been done against you, and He is not blind to that which is done in secret. We may take comfort that He does not only meet evil with good, but He takes the evil and subjects it to His own eternal purpose, bringing forth from it that which shall result in His glory and the good of His children. What men mean for harm, God can overrule for His own holy ends.

We will pray for this sister who has faith in Jesus, that the Lord will keep her faithful and make her voice clear and courageous. May she walk so near to Christ that her influence shall be as salt and light in her brother's house, not with harshness, but with truth spoken in love. We pray that she will not be kept in darkness concerning these matters, but that what has been hidden will be brought into the light, for all things that are hidden shall be made manifest. We ask that God will give her wisdom to speak what is true and right, and that He will open her brother's heart to hear.

Concerning the former landlord and the woman with whom he has lived in sin, we cannot ask God to bless that which His Word calls evil. Fornication and all uncleanness are not to be excused but to be repented of, for out of the heart proceed evil thoughts and acts of unchastity which defile the man. The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin, and there is forgiveness for every repenting sinner who comes to Him, however great the transgression. So we pray not for the continuance of that sin, but for conviction of sin, for a broken heart, and for turning unto the Lord. We pray that both the man and the woman may see their need of a Saviour, that they may forsake the way of immorality and be washed and made whole by Christ alone, for there is salvation in no other.

You have asked also that God would expose and destroy every idol and that they may put God first. This is a prayer agreeable to His will. Keep yourselves from idols, the Scripture saith. Some make an idol of wealth, some of lust, some of self, and fall not into that idolatry. We pray that the Lord will tear down every idol that has taken His place in these hearts, whether it be money, or pleasure, or power, and that He alone may be enthroned there. Where Christ reigns, sin shall not have dominion.

And touching the wrong done to you, even the attempt upon your life, we must remember the word, overcome evil with good. To recompense evil for evil is natural and easy, but it does not succeed and it only increases the evil. May God deliver you from a spirit of revenge, and may He enable you to commit your cause unto Him who judgeth righteously. Vengeance belongeth unto the Lord. You may safely leave justice in His hands, for He is just and the justifier of him that believeth in Jesus. If justice must be satisfied, let it be satisfied at the cross, where mercy and truth have met together.

Let us pray together.

O Mighty and Powerful God, Thou seest all that is done in darkness and Thou wilt bring every work into judgment. We ask Thee to protect Thy servant who has been wronged and to deliver him from the snare of the enemy. Let no weapon formed against him prosper. We pray for the sister who loves Thee, strengthen her faith, give her boldness to speak the truth, and let her godly influence be felt. We pray for her brother, that Thou wouldst open his eyes to the wrong he hath done in renting a habitation unfit and dangerous, and to the sin of his own life, and bring him to repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. We pray for the woman also, that she may be convinced of her sin and turn from it and find cleansing in the precious blood of Christ. Expose, O Lord, every hidden thing that ought to be revealed, and destroy every idol that exalts itself against Thee, that Thou alone mayest be first in every heart. All this we ask in the name of Jesus Christ our only hope and righteousness. Amen.
