The Eyes Have It

The Eyes Have It

They went right into the house where he was staying, and Jesus asked them, “Do you believe I can make you see?†“Yes, Lord,†they told him, “we do.†Then he touched their eyes and said, “Because of your faith, it will happen.†Matthew 9:28-29 (NLT)

In the Bible, our eyes are utilized as a representation of a person’s ability to obtain the light of God. They are symbols of our mental understanding and spiritual character. As believers we receive His grace, which is compared to the opening of eyes so we may see what He is doing. Our God is a God of order. Nothing He does is by chance.

For instance, it is not an accident that at the hub of the solar system is the Sun, providing light. Life is driven by light. Without the sun (or Son) we would be dead, whether it is in the spiritual or the natural. With that in mind, we must realize that without the process of refraction, the bending of light’s rays, we would be blind. This is not a fluke. God in His wisdom created this tiny and yet complex organ. It has many intricate details, but basically when all is working properly, LIGHT makes it through, arriving at the retina, and ALL has its perfect focus.

As a stander, I thank God for His light, and pray as many of us do. that our kidnapped loved ones see. I pray for the removal of cataracts, and that they are detached from the kingdom of darkness and into the kingdom of light, convinced that in the restoration of their sight there will be a spiritual healing. This spiritual healing would allow my beloved to see me new, and love me the way Christ loves the church.

Recently during one of my devotions, I was crying out to God, asking Him to change me and make me the spouse my beloved needs. The entire time two scriptures kept coming to my mind. 2 Corinthians 5:17 and Matthew 7:3-5. Still blind, I kept thanking God that I AM new, and I would not receive any guilt and condemnation from the enemy. Then He whispered, “No, your spouse is my son.†With that revelation, I went back and reread those scriptures with my spouse in mind.

“Why do you look at the speck of saw dust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.†Matthew 7:3-5

With tears pouring down my cheeks, I realized God was telling me to look in the mirror. Unfortunately, I suffered from the lack of vision as well. My obstruction was larger, because I KNOW who is in charge. Fixing myself would require I see the new in my beloved. Too often I would sit and prepare myself for condemnation from him, blaming it on the lack of God’s love in his life. I could clearly see how he saw the old me. In my heart (which only God can see) I criticized my husband’s view of me. Forgetting that those same seeds and thoughts would come back to me, because what I sow I shall reap and with the measure I judge I too shall be judged. While my spouse might not see because he’s still in darkness, I am in the light and there isn’t any reason to not SEE what God is doing in my spouse.

So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 2 Corinthians 5:16-17

Now on my knees sobbing, asking for forgiveness, my wonderful Lord brought into remembrance the changes in my love. Whereas he was once quarrelsome, he now chooses peace. There was a time when money set off ugliness in him, but God urges him to bless us. God also challenged me by bringing to light how my pride was a wall to not receiving all the miracles and joy for my family. I was wise in my own eyes, and saw the old man when I saw my darling. I minimized God’s work and maximized the enemy’s hold.

God made it so simple for me to understand. If I confess daily to stand on HIS promises then, I MUST live by faith and NOT by sight. I MUST take God at HIS word. He tells me to ask, believe and receive. If I confess this as well then I MUST SEE it. Faith is living in belief and with opened eyes which will in turn glorify the Creator of the Universe. I choose where to look. My decision and focus reveals the condition of my heart.

So fellow standers, now when I pray to the Almighty who sees and knows the end from the beginning, I ask, let me see YOU in my spouse. I thank Him for showing me the heart He sees, because He sees the heart and not the sin or the old creature.

Let us continue to see the new heart and spirit which He has breathed on.

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up, do you not perceive it?...†Isaiah 43:18-19
