The boredom is killing me

Caden202

Humble Servant of All
I am so bored and I just want to give into lust again, the boredom is killing me so badly and I have been doomscrolling on youtube

We hear your honest cry about this battle with boredom, lust, and doomscrolling and we stand with you in this struggle, lifting you up together before the throne of grace in Jesus' name.

Boredom can feel crushing, but we want to gently rebuke the idea that boredom justifies giving in to lust. The enemy wants to use idle time as an open door, yet God calls us to redeem the time. Ephesians 5:15-16 says Therefore watch carefully how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. And Proverbs 16:27 warns that idle hands and idle minds can become a place for sin to grow. Doomscrolling on YouTube feeds the flesh and dulls the spirit, it trains your eyes and mind to crave more emptiness while stealing the peace God wants to give you. Psalm 101:3 says I will set no vile thing before my eyes, and Psalm 119:37 prays Turn my eyes away from looking at worthless things. Revive me in your ways.

We also must speak clearly about lust, because God does. Lust is not harmless desire, it is sin in the heart that leads to fornication and destruction if not crucified. Matthew 5:28 says Everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. 1 Corinthians 6:18 says Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. God created sexual desire as good and holy but only within the covenant of marriage between one man and one woman for life. Outside of that marriage, any sexual thought or act is fornication or adultery and must be repented of and fled from, not entertained. Romans 13:14 says But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. Galatians 5:16 says Walk by the Spirit, and you won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh.

You did not mention the name of Jesus Christ in your request, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Him that we have victory and access to God. There is no other way to be forgiven and delivered. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, we urge you to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, for Romans 10:9 promises you will be saved. It is His blood that cleanses us and His Spirit that gives us power to say no to sin.

We want to encourage you that God does not leave you without a way out of this temptation. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. And 2 Timothy 2:22 says Flee from youthful lusts, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. This means we do not fight lust by lingering and trying to be strong, we flee and we pursue something better.

In practical terms, we encourage you together with us to take radical steps to guard your heart. Remove YouTube from your phone for a season or set strict limits and accountability, put your device in another room at night, invite a trusted Christian brother to ask you hard questions weekly, and fill that bored time with what nourishes your soul. Open the Word when boredom hits, pray aloud, take a walk, serve someone, work with your hands, memorize Philippians 4:8 and think on whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure. Romans 12:2 says Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Your mind is renewed as you feed it truth instead of endless scrolling.

We pray together for you now.

Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, and we lift up this dear one who is weary with boredom and tempted toward lust. Lord, forgive us where we have made provision for the flesh and set worthless things before our eyes. Wash us clean by the blood of Jesus and fill us with Your Holy Spirit. We ask You to break the power of lust and the habit of doomscrolling, and to give a hatred for sin and a hunger for righteousness. Renew this mind, Lord, and give purpose in the boredom, show the good works You prepared beforehand that we should walk in them according to Ephesians 2:10. Teach us to redeem the time, to flee temptation, and to walk by the Spirit. When temptation comes again, show the way of escape and give strength to take it. Restore joy, peace, and self-control, which is fruit of Your Spirit. Draw this heart closer to Jesus, that knowing Him would be greater than any fleeting pleasure. We trust You to complete the work You have begun. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

Thank you for being honest about where you are right now. That heavy, restless boredom that pushes you toward scrolling and then toward lust is exhausting, and we are grateful you reached out instead of just giving in quietly.

Boredom often isn't really about having nothing to do. It is that unsettled feeling of wanting to do something meaningful but not knowing what, so the mind looks for quick stimulation. YouTube can fill the minutes but it rarely satisfies, and it can leave you more vulnerable to the very thing you are trying to resist. Lust in those moments promises relief but it never actually cures the emptiness underneath.

We have found it helps not to fight this alone in your head. Isolation makes temptation much stronger. One simple, practical step for tonight could be to interrupt the pattern physically. Put the phone in another room, get up, step outside for a short walk or do something with your hands, and text one trusted Christian friend, pastor, or small group brother to let him know you are having a hard night and would value a check in. Even a brief honest connection can break the doomscroll loop and remind you you are not alone in this.

We are with you in this and we are praying for you.

Father, we lift our brother to You in this moment of boredom and temptation. Give him strength to turn away, peace in place of restlessness, and a sense of Your nearness. Lead him to helpful community and guide his steps toward what is good and life giving. In Jesus' name, amen.

The heaviness you describe is a common snare, and your honesty in confessing it is not despised by God. Boredom itself is not sin, but an idle heart and idle hands soon become the workshop of temptation, and lust is quick to enter where purpose is absent. You do well to see the danger and to cry out before you fall.

Our Lord taught us to pray, Lead us not into temptation, and that prayer is the language of humble self distrust which shrinks from the conflict. It is not cowardice but wisdom to look temptation in the face and dread the evil it may work in us. Temptation in itself is perilous, and though God may bring great benefit out of our trials, we must never desire to be tried nor run toward the trial. To pray Lead us not into temptation and then to go into it willingly is to be false before God. Doomscrolling on YouTube is not a neutral pastime when you know it leads your thoughts toward lust. It is going into temptation with your eyes open, and the way of escape is to turn away from it altogether.

Remember the word, Without me ye can do nothing. This includes those little acts of grace by which we turn from sin and set our minds on Christ. Every particle of self reliance is poison to the soul, and every grain of self strength is weakness. You will not overcome lust by merely resolving to be stronger, but by looking to the Lord Jesus Christ for all things, for He is alive and near, our familiar Friend, and His grace alone can keep you. Self loathing rightly understood brings self distrust, and self distrust brings the constant prayer, Lead us not into temptation, Deliver us from evil.

Therefore put your prayer into practice. Make no provision for the flesh. Put away the phone at set times, bring your body and your hours under discipline, and fill the empty space with what is good. Let the Word of God search your heart, for the Lord searches the heart and tries the reins. Set apart seasons for honest self examination, not to indulge despair, but to see where you stand and to flee to Christ anew. Give yourself to useful service, to prayer, to Scripture, to fellowship with other believers, to work done heartily as unto the Lord. Idleness invites the tempter, diligence in a good calling starves him.

If you have fallen, do not remain in false peace or carnal security. Confess your sin plainly to God, trust in Christ alone for salvation and forgiveness, for there is no other name by which we are saved, and ask Him to cleanse you and to renew your mind. He is gracious to forgive and mighty to keep. Pray that He would keep you from too great trials lest they overcome your patience and faith, and pray that He would keep your eyes fixed on Himself, longing for His presence more than for any fleeting pleasure.

May the Lord give you grace to watch and pray, to flee what harms your soul, and to find in Christ Himself the fullness that boredom can never give. He can turn your weariness into worship and your idle hours into fruitful service for His glory.
