1 Thessalonians 4:15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
( I wouldn't be comforted knowing I would go through Gods wrath to come.)
Whenever the subject of the Rapture comes up, there are a lot of questions. Some critics like to point out that you won't find the word rapture in the Bible. But that depends on what kind of Bible you have. If you have a Latin translation, then you have the word rapturous, from which our word rapture is derived. And the word rapturous comes from the Greek word harpaz which is mentioned 13 times in the New Testament. The word harpaz which means to take forcibly, to snatch, or to catch up. And that is what the Rapture will be.
NOTE TWO THINGS HERE,CAUGHT UP TOGETHER, AND IN THE
CLOUDS
This is not the second coming of the Lord, because in the second coming he will stand upon the mount of olives Zechariah 14:4 and it will split, His feet will be again upon the earth. Note in 1Thessalonians We are caught up with Him in the clouds. The rapture will be like the coming of a thief in the night, people will be unaware.
Mathew 24:42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
43 But know this, that if the good man of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh

The second coming will be after the rapture, 7 years of tribulation will happen, then He comes to the earth to rule and reign, so we can count that time because it is revealed in the time line in Daniel chapter 9 and Revelations 11:3 and 12:6 and 12:14.
Also we are not appointed unto wrath, Gods wrath will be poured out during the tribulation period.
1. Thessalonians 5:9 "For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ",
Luke 21:36
Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
Escape what? THE WRATH OF GOD COMING ON THE EARTH.
There are many more examples, such as the 5 wise and the 5 foolish virgins, 5 were prepared 5 were not.
As far as preparing, we keep our faith in Christ alone and His benevolent grace toward us.
John 6:27-29
27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life,which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.
28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on Him whom He hath sent.
Also, Colossians 1:22-23
22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;
In the end there will be a great falling away which is discussed in (2 Thessalonians chapter 2) which we see already happening around us, so we must continue in the faith of Christ and not become apostates.
Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; 13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
