What is the Holy Spirit to you? Just the third person of the Trinity, a name to be spoken in prayer? Many believers do not understand the Holy Spirit, they know of Him but do not personally know Him do not have Him. God intended you to personally know Him and have Him with you. It is imperative that you personally know Him and have Him in fact, because He is the key to victory. You need His indwelling inside you to have His power.
Even Jesus had to receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit of God to perform the miracles that He did, to lay hands on the sick and they recover, to cast out demons. God gave Jesus the indwelling of His Spirit right after John the Baptist baptized Him with water. Before this event, Jesus was no more a miracle worker then any of us in the flesh, even being the Son of God. It was right after this that Jesus, moved by the Spirit that came into Him, went in the 40 days of fasting where He was tempted by satan and resisted him. We have to have the indwelling of His Spirit in order to resist satan and come against all his evil works with any power and authority.
Mat 12:18 Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.
Mat 3:16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
Mar 1:6 And John was clothed with camel's hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey;
Mar 1:7 And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose.
Mar 1:8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost. (John tells how Jesus will baptize us in the Holy Spirit)
Mar 1:9 And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan.
Mar 1:10 And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him:
Mar 1:11 And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Joh 1:32 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.
Joh 1:33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.
Joh 1:34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
Luk 4:1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,
Mar 1:12 And immediately the Spirit driveth him into the wilderness.
Mar 1:13 And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.
Luk 4:13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.
Luk 4:14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.
Luk 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
Joh 7:39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
Once Jesus became the sacrifice for the sin of the world, we were able to have that anointing of the Holy Spirit. He spoke of it to His disciples and on Pentecost, while they were meeting in the upper room, He brought His Spirit upon them so that they could go out and perform miracles like He did when He walked the earth, so they could carry on His works and testify about Him. That was the promise, a gift from God, that we all can have. The fact is, until you receive the anointing of His Spirit, you will struggle with the world. Benny Hinn stated once that until a Christian receives the anointing of the Spirit, they cannot resist the world. I can personally testify that I could not resist the world until I received the anointing. Once I received Him, I could no longer tolerate worldly things, I was repulsed by them, and this is when I totally transformed in Christ, when I received His power to back me up in all things. The Holy Spirit is not just a symbol of the Trinity, He is not just a name to call out in prayer like “I pray in the Name of Jesus and the Holy Spiritâ€, which is what I thought He was. He is real, alive, acting, Gods power, and He actually comes into you and takes over, and once He does, He never leaves you. How does He manifest Himself? He speaks through your mouth is the main way, but He also overcomes you at times, you feel Him in you. He is a real presence inside of you. He reveals things to you, mysteries of God. Dreams, visions, He speaks directly to you in voice or in spirit (feeling in your spirit). He is awesome! I can promise you that if you do not have the indwelling of the Spirit, then you are seriously lacking in your spiritual battle, you are missing out on Gods power working through you in your situation. You will also forever struggle with the world, yourself, sin, feelings, emotions, thoughts, all things, until you have Him to help you.
Joh 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
Joh 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
Joh 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:
Joh 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
Act 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Act 2:17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
Act 2:18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
Eph 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
Joh 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Joh 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Joh 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
Joh 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Rom 7:6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.
Rom 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
Rom 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
Rom 8:10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
Rom 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
1Co 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
1Co 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
1Co 5:4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,
1Co 5:5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
1Co 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
1Co 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
1Co 14:15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.
2Co 3:17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
Gal 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Gal 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
Eph 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
1Jo 4:13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.
The hard part is, how do you get the indwelling of the Holy Spirit? Not hard to get Him at all, He is a promise from God as the scripture says. A gift to you when you become a child of God. But, hard to explain the how you get Him. You seek Him and you welcome Him to come into you. Any resistance will keep Him away. The biggest problem I have witnessed and heard witness of by many Pastors, is actually the opposite. That people seek Him so hard that they cause a unknown resistance sort of. They become so focused on receiving Him that it hinders the receiving. I sought the Holy Spirit myself hard, and I prayed for weeks, inviting Him in, and nothing. Then one night God told me to go outside in a thunder storm, lightening crashing around me, and He told me to lift my hands to Heaven and call out for the Holy Spirit, and I did what God told me, and He came into me. I said that maybe God had to take me out in a raging storm just to get me to take my focus off of the actual receiving, so He could come in. I have watched others seek the indwelling at church, and just be beat up over the trying. I witnessed one man doing such. Then one evening Pastor much told him to do the same thing God told me to do, just to lift his hands to Heaven and pray out loud for Him to come in, and to just relax and go with the flow, that when He comes, just let Him take over and let Him flow through. It worked for that man that night, suddenly the Spirit was speaking through him and the man was relaxed and just letting the Spirit have His way with him. This was also the key thing on a tape I received about how to receive, the stress that you just relax, lift up your hands and be totally open, letting God have His way, no fear, no tenseness, just pray and when He comes in and starts speaking, let Him flow through and out of you, do not resist. You surrender yourself to Him. The Pastor on this tape said to put your hand on your head and close your eyes, imagining that it is his hand on your head, and He would pray for the Holy Spirit to come into you, but in hearing him say that I thought there is a better image then that even. Imagine the hand of Jesus is on your head, and ask Him to give you His Spirit to indwell inside of you and help you as He promised the Father would do, and surrender to what happens, relax and let God have you completely.
There is no good way to explain receiving the indwelling, anointing, of the Holy Spirit, it is such a personal thing is why, but the key points are no resistance, letting God have His way with you, letting Him come in and take over completely. You will be amazed at how it changes your life and your circumstances. The Holy Spirit is just a necessity in spiritual battle, as well as in your Christian walk period. Without Him indwelling in you, you will have a hard time being Christian in this world. I pray that all standers receive the anointing of the Holy Spirit! God bless…
