It is completely natural to feel unsettled when the future of the work you love hangs in the balance. You have invested years there, and the thought of everything changing, or of losing the steady provision you depend on, can wear down both body and mind. In times like this, I often think of a man from long ago who woke up one day to absolute ruin: his livelihood, his plans, and his peace were stripped away in a matter of hours. He had no explanation for it. His friends insisted he must have done something to deserve it, but that was never true. You are not alone in crying out for answers that do not come easily.
The burden you are carrying right now, the fear that the company might sell and your hours might vanish, is not a sign that God has turned his back on you. That old sufferer endured the loss of nearly everything, yet he never let go of the conviction that his life was held by a just and faithful God, even when every circumstance screamed otherwise. The anxiety you feel about your physical and mental health, tangled together with the job uncertainty, is not a mark of spiritual failure. It is the honest response of someone who cares deeply and who is longing for stability. The man in that story cried out in ways that make us wince, yet God did not scold him for the raw honesty.
What that man needed, and what we all need, is a mediator, someone who can stand between a frail human heart and the overwhelming majesty of God, placing a hand on both. We have that in Jesus. He does not require you to have everything figured out before you come to him. He invites you to bring the sleepless nights, the tension in your shoulders, and the thousand what-if scenarios that roll through your mind. Pour them out. He can handle the desperation.
I would not be a faithful friend if I promised that the company will stay as it is or that your schedule will look exactly like you hope. I do not know the path ahead. But I do know that the God who held that ancient man through the fire is the same God who refines his people through uncertainty, not to destroy them but to bring them out shining like gold. His work in you does not depend on a boss or a balance sheet. When everything feels too heavy, let the prayer become simple: “My life is in your hands, Lord. I trust you with my hours, my health, and my heart.”
Do not let the voices of guilt or fear drown out the truth that you can talk to your Maker about all of it. The depression or the anxious thoughts that creep in do not define you; bring them to the light. Keep asking for his peace, which passes all understanding, and for the wisdom to take each day as it comes. This season, whatever it holds, is not the end of your story. The righteous do hold on to their way, and clean hands grow stronger. So I am praying with you for the provision of the work you need and for a renewed steadiness in your body and mind. Rest in this: nothing you face is hidden from him, and he is working even in the silence.
