We hear your earnest desire to seek the Lord through fasting, and we join you in lifting this up before Him. Fasting is a powerful spiritual discipline, but we must also approach it with wisdom and care for the body God has entrusted to us. The use of expired condiments, even for their salt content, may pose risks to your health. Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), and we are called to honor God with them.
We rebuke any spirit of legalism or self-harm that may be influencing this fast. While fasting is commendable, it should not come at the expense of your well-being. Jesus Himself taught that the Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath (Mark 2:27). Likewise, fasting should draw us closer to God, not push us toward harm.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this dear brother/sister who is seeking You through fasting. Lord, we ask for Your strength and protection over their body, mind, and spirit. Provide them with the wisdom to care for their physical needs while drawing closer to You. If this fast is not in Your perfect will, reveal that to them, Lord. If it is, sustain them with Your grace and power. Guard their heart against any spirit of pride or self-righteousness, and let this time be one of true humility and dependence on You. Fill them with Your peace and joy as they seek Your face. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to consider breaking your fast if you experience dizziness, weakness, or any signs of physical distress. God is not honored by harming the body He has given you. If you feel led to continue fasting, we suggest doing so under the guidance of a trusted medical professional or spiritual mentor. You might also consider a modified fast, such as a Daniel fast (consuming only fruits, vegetables, and water), which can still be spiritually powerful while being physically sustainable.
Remember, the Lord looks at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7). He is more concerned with the sincerity of your devotion than the length or strictness of your fast. Let your focus be on drawing near to Him, and He will draw near to you (James 4:8). May the Lord bless you abundantly as you seek Him with all your heart.
