We come before the throne of grace with you in this time of deep spiritual distress, lifting your cry to our Heavenly Father through the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. It is only in His name that we have authority, protection, and deliverance, for Scripture declares, *"There is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved!"* (Acts 4:12, WEB). You have rightly called upon Jesus, and we stand with you in His power to rebuke the darkness that seeks to oppress you.
The Psalms are a sacred gift from God, filled with praises, laments, and prophecies that point to Christ Himself. It is a grievous distortion of the enemy to twist these holy words into a means of torment or revenge. The Word of God is living and active (Hebrews 4:12), and when we engage with it, we must do so with reverence, understanding that our battle is not against flesh and blood but against *"the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places"* (Ephesians 6:12, WEB). The appearance of this unwanted personality, voice, or cultural demonic influence is not from God but is a scheme of the enemy to distract, accuse, and instill fear. We must resist him firmly, for *"God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control"* (2 Timothy 1:7, WEB).
It is important to clarify that while we are called to bless those who persecute us (Romans 12:14), blessing does not mean enabling or passively accepting demonic influence or harassment. Instead, we are to *"resist the devil, and he will flee from you"* (James 4:7, WEB). Your desire to have nothing to do with this worldly influence is right and good, but we must also ensure our hearts are guarded against bitterness or unforgiveness, which can give the enemy a foothold (Ephesians 4:27). Forgiveness does not mean what was done is acceptable; it means releasing the offense to God, who is the just Judge. *"Don’t say, ‘I will pay back evil.’ Wait for Yahweh, and he will save you"* (Proverbs 20:22, WEB).
Let us address the spiritual oppression you are facing. The enemy often counterfeits and twists what is holy to deceive and torment believers. If reading the Psalms has become associated with these attacks, we encourage you to continue reading them aloud with boldness, declaring the truth of God’s Word over your life. The Psalms are filled with declarations of God’s sovereignty, protection, and deliverance. For example, *"Yahweh is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? Yahweh is the strength of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid?"* (Psalm 27:1, WEB). Claim these promises over yourself and rebuke the enemy’s lies in Jesus’ name.
We also urge you to examine your spiritual armor daily. Are you putting on the whole armor of God? *"Stand therefore, having the utility belt of truth buckled around your waist, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having fitted your feet with the preparation of the Good News of peace; above all, taking up the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the spoken word of God"* (Ephesians 6:14-17, WEB). Prayer, fasting, and immersing yourself in worship can also break the enemy’s hold. Surround yourself with believers who can pray with you and hold you accountable in your walk with Christ.
Now, let us pray together over this situation:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We thank You that You are a God who delivers, protects, and sets the captives free. Lord, we lift up Your child who is under spiritual attack, and we ask for Your mighty hand to intervene. You have said in Your Word that *"No weapon that is formed against you will prevail; and you will condemn every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of Yahweh’s servants, and their righteousness is of me, says Yahweh"* (Isaiah 54:17, WEB). We declare this promise over them now.
Lord Jesus, You have all authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18), and we command every demonic voice, personality, and cultural spirit that has been harassing and oppressing Your child to be silenced and bound in Your name. We break every curse, every assignment of revenge, and every twisted use of Your holy Word. We declare that the Psalms are Your Word, and they are for praise, worship, and declaration of Your truth—not for torment or revenge. We rebuke every counterfeit and every lie of the enemy that has sought to pervert what is holy. Let the fire of Your Holy Spirit burn away every ungodly tie, every demonic influence, and every stronghold that has been established against Your child.
Father, we ask that You would surround them with Your angels, encamping around them as Your Word promises (Psalm 34:7). Fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7) and let them rest in the assurance that You are their protector and deliverer. If there has been any openness to the occult, unforgiveness, or fear that has given the enemy a legal right, we ask that You would reveal it to them and give them the strength to repent and close every door. Cleanse them by Your blood, Jesus, and let no weapon formed against them prosper.
Lord, we also lift up the individual mentioned, not in hatred but in the knowledge that You desire all people to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). If there is any demonic influence attached to them, we pray that You would break its power and set them free as well. Let Your light expose every darkness, and let Your truth prevail. We do not pray for harm but for Your will to be done—whether that means removal from influence or redemption through Christ.
Holy Spirit, fill Your child with discernment, wisdom, and a deeper hunger for Your Word. Let them read the Psalms—and all of Scripture—with fresh eyes, seeing Your truth and experiencing Your presence without fear. Give them dreams and visions of Your love and protection. Remind them that *"Yahweh is their shepherd; they shall lack nothing"* (Psalm 23:1, WEB).
We thank You, Father, for Your faithfulness. We trust that You are working all things together for good (Romans 8:28) and that You will complete the work You have begun in them (Philippians 1:6). Let them walk in victory, knowing that *"the one who is in them is greater than he who is in the world"* (1 John 4:4, WEB). We pray all these things in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
Finally, we encourage you to seek out a mature, spirit-filled believer or pastor who can pray with you and provide guidance. Spiritual battles are not meant to be fought alone. Stay rooted in the Word, in prayer, and in fellowship with other believers. If you have not already, we strongly recommend renouncing any past involvement with the occult, New Age practices, or anything that contradicts Scripture. Even seemingly harmless things can open doors to the enemy. *"Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you"* (James 4:7-8, WEB).
You are not powerless in this situation. You have the authority of Christ, and He has already won the victory. Stand firm in that truth, and do not let the enemy steal your peace or your joy in the Lord. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2). He is with you, and He will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6). Walk in that assurance, and let His light drive out every shadow of fear.
