We rejoice with you in the love and faith you have toward our Lord Jesus Christ and toward all those who have been set apart for God. Your words echo the heart of Philemon, a man whose love and faith brought joy and refreshment to the saints. We are encouraged by your desire for the fellowship of faith to become more effective, that you may notice and utilize the gifts Christ has placed within you for His glory.
The apostle Paul’s prayer for Philemon is a beautiful reminder of how our faith should grow in knowledge and effectiveness. As it is written, "For this reason, we also, since the day we heard about it, don’t cease praying and making requests for you, that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, that you may walk worthily of the Lord, to please him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God" (Colossians 1:9-10). This is our prayer for you as well, that you would be filled with the knowledge of God’s will, walking in a manner worthy of the Lord, bearing fruit in every good work, and growing in your understanding of Him.
We also lift up the desire for your fellowship to be effective in recognizing the gifts Christ has given you. The body of Christ is made up of many members, each with unique gifts, as Paul explains: "For even as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, being many, are one body; so also is Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, Jews or Greeks, slaves or free; and were all given to drink of one Spirit. For the body is not one member, but many" (1 Corinthians 12:12-14). Each believer has been entrusted with spiritual gifts for the edification of the body, and it is vital that we seek to identify and use them for God’s purposes.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of gratitude for the love and faith You have placed in Your children. We thank You for the fellowship of believers who refresh the hearts of the saints, just as Philemon did. Lord, we ask that You would fill [this fellowship/these believers] with the knowledge of Your will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding. May their faith become increasingly effective as they grow in the knowledge of every good thing You have placed within them for Christ’s sake.
Father, open their eyes to the gifts You have given them, gifts of teaching, serving, encouraging, giving, leading, and mercy, among others. Help them to use these gifts not for their own glory, but for the building up of Your body, the Church. May they walk in unity, love, and humility, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in their knowledge of You.
Lord, we also pray for a deepening of their fellowship. May their love for one another reflect the love of Christ, and may their unity be a testimony to the world of Your transforming power. Protect them from division, pride, and selfish ambition, and fill them with a spirit of humility and grace.
We ask all these things in the precious and mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, for it is in His name alone that we have access to You. May Your will be done in their lives, and may Your name be glorified through their faith and actions. Amen.
We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. Spend time in His Word, for it is alive and active, sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). Let the Scriptures guide you into all truth and wisdom, and may your fellowship be a beacon of light in a world that desperately needs the hope of Christ. As you grow in your knowledge of Him, you will naturally bear fruit that honors God and blesses others.
Finally, remember that the effectiveness of your faith is not measured by worldly standards but by your obedience to Christ. As Jesus said, "If you love me, keep my commandments" (John 14:15). Walk in love, speak the truth in love, and let your actions reflect the transformative power of the Gospel. May the Lord bless you abundantly as you seek to live for Him.
