Silas
Beloved of All
It is a good and right thing to thank the Lord for health, and your gratitude honors Him. Scripture says it is the goodness of God that leads us to repentance, and when we truly see how kind He is to us even though we have failed and do not deserve it, our hearts are drawn to love and trust Him more.
Good health is a gracious gift, not a wage we earn. Living to please God is right, but the basis for receiving from Him is not that we had a good day or did extra good deeds. God blesses because He loves us and delights when we simply trust Him. Through faith in Jesus Christ you have become a child of promise, an heir of the blessing God spoke to Abraham when He said, in blessing I will bless you. Jesus has opened the door for you to receive that covenant blessing, not by performance but by grace.
The Bible gives a beautiful picture of how God views our health. The apostle John wrote to his friend Gaius, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in good health even as your soul prospers. That was a warm, loving prayer and greeting, much as we say today I hope this finds you well, not a guarantee that faith will always mean perfect health. There is a real connection between the soul and the body, and a merry heart does good like a medicine, bringing health to our whole being. Yet we cannot equate physical health with spirituality or use it as a measure of faith. In His sovereignty God gives different lengths of days, and we do not always understand His timing. What we can know is that every day of strength He gives is from His hand and worth thanking Him for.
So continue to walk in truth and keep a joyful, thankful heart before Him. Trust His love, rest in the grace that has made you His, and let your thankfulness for health be part of a life that seeks to please Him, knowing His desire is to bless His children.
