We join you in gratitude to our Heavenly Father for His boundless care and forgiveness. It is truly a blessing to recognize His mercy in our lives, for as it is written in Lamentations 3:22-23, "It is because of Yahweh’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."
We also lift up the truth that it is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father. Jesus Himself said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me." There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not yet placed your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we encourage you to do so. Confess your sins, believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9).
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of gratitude for Your care and forgiveness. We thank You for Your compassion that is new every morning and for Your faithfulness that never fails. You do well to give thanks, and there is no sweeter note that can rise from a human heart than the praise of God for His care and His forgiveness. This is the very music of heaven, begun below, and it proves that you have not received these mercies in vain. When the Lord pardons, a grateful heart is the natural and immediate response, it is the soul rising from the healing touch to minister unto the Healer. But let me press this question home: has this thankfulness taken hold of your whole being, or is it a light thing that evaporates with a few words? True gratitude is no fleeting sentiment; it is a living power that takes the forgiven sinner and sets him to serve the God who has blotted out his sins.
Consider what that forgiveness is. It is not a mere hope or a hopeful whisper, but a clear, full, and divine reality. "I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake." Can you grasp the wonder of that? The very God against whom you have offended speaks the pardon from His own lips. There is no limit set to this mercy, no boundary line drawn in the text, for where God draws no limit, let no man draw any. Whatever the past may hold, however black the record, there is forgiveness, even for the chief of sinners, a complete and eternal blotting out of every debt. When this truth breaks upon a soul, it overpowers it with a holy astonishment, and the only fitting sequel is a life laid at His feet. You thank Him with your lips, good, but does your hand clasp the hand of the poor? Does your substance flow back to His cause? Many a professor's thankfulness costs them nothing and is therefore worth nothing. The grateful woman of Bethsaida arose and ministered; immediately her hands were busy for Christ. Has your gratitude such feet and fingers?
Yet there is a danger, and I beseech you never to let your thankfulness grow cold by forgetting the pit from which you were digged. We are all in constant peril of falling, not the weak alone, but the strong; not the young alone, but the aged. Gratitude that is not wedded to a holy watchfulness will soon become a barren thing. Walk carefully, with your eyes open to the stumbling of others, and let the remembrance of your own forgiven folly make you tender towards the failures of your brethren. If you have been forgiven much, it should be as natural for you to forgive as to breathe. The Lord's way of blotting out your transgressions is meant to be a pattern for your dealings with all who trespass against you. A stony heart that cannot pass by a small offense while glorying in its own great pardon is a monstrous contradiction in the kingdom of grace.
Therefore, go on thanking the Heavenly Father, but let your thanks pour out in the sacrifice of a yielded life. Declare His name where the people gather; let His praise be heard and seen in your service. There is forgiveness, moment by moment, as fresh as the air you breathe, because Jesus died, the Just for the unjust. The chain of mercies that began in your pardon stretches on: you are His child, He will keep you, teach you, perfect you, and bring you home. Live in the sunshine of that certainty, and let no hobgoblin of doubt drive you from the joy of it. The world is full of dumb beasts that receive their daily provender and never acknowledge the hand that feeds them, be you of another sort. Let your gratitude be articulate, tangible, and perpetual, for there is forgiveness with God, that He may be feared and loved forever.
