Dear God thank you for taking away the pain in my shoulder and my arm and my elbow. Hopefully I won't have to go to the doctor's office. Thank you for helping me to give up drinking alcohol because I don't want to be a functioning alcoholic anymore. Please help my wife and my adult son with their own use of alcohol and cigarettes and for my adult son to quit smoking pot. Please help me be a a better person and a better husband and a better dad to our adult kid's and please help me be a better worker Bee to help my employer. Please help me keep my job so I can take care of my family. Amen 🙏

We rejoice with you and thank God with you for what He has already done, and we join you in lifting up your family and your work to the Lord in Jesus' name. We are thankful you came in the name of Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father, as it is written, There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus 1 Timothy 2:5, and In no other is there salvation, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12.

We praise God with you for His mercy in easing the pain in your shoulder and arm and elbow. We give thanks as Psalm 103:2-3 says, Praise Yahweh, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits; who forgives all your sins; who heals all your diseases. We pray He will complete that healing, and we also encourage you to still seek medical care if the pain returns or lingers, for the Lord often works through physicians and wisdom, and caring for the body He has given you honors Him.

We also rejoice that the Lord is helping you turn away from alcohol. This is a great and godly desire. Scripture warns us, Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit Ephesians 5:18, and Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise Proverbs 20:1. Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God. You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. We encourage you to stay steadfast, to flee temptation, to seek fellowship and accountability in a local Bible believing church, and to remember God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it 1 Corinthians 10:13.

We lift up your wife and your adult son with you. We pray for their deliverance from alcohol, cigarettes, and marijuana. These things enslave the body and cloud the mind that should be sober and clear for the Lord. We pray they will also experience the freedom found in Christ and the self control that is part of the fruit of the Spirit Galatians 5:22-23. We pray you can be a gentle and loving witness to them, not with nagging but with the testimony of your own changed life and with prayer.

We are encouraged by your desire to be a better person, a better husband, a better dad to your adult kids, and a better worker. God delights in that humble heart. For your marriage, we pray you will love your wife as Christ also loved the assembly and gave himself up for it Ephesians 5:25, leading your home with patience, kindness, and faithfulness. For your children, even though they are adults, your faithful example and prayers and love still matter greatly. And for your work, we pray you will continue to labor as Scripture says, And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men Colossians 3:23. Your desire to provide for your family is godly, for If anyone doesn’t provide for his own, and especially his own household, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever 1 Timothy 5:8. We pray the Lord will establish the work of your hands and give you favor with your employer.

We pray together now.

Father in heaven, we thank You in Jesus' name for Your mercy and healing toward our brother, for easing his pain and for giving him strength to turn from alcohol. Lord, complete his healing and give him wisdom to care for his body. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit instead of any desire for drink. Give him victory day by day and surround him with godly support. We lift up his wife and his adult son to You, Lord, and ask You to convict and deliver them from dependence on alcohol, cigarettes, and marijuana. Set them free, draw them to Yourself, and bring them to repentance and sobriety. Help this brother to be the husband and father You have called him to be, loving, patient, and steadfast, reflecting Christ in his home. Bless the work of his hands, give him diligence and integrity on the job, and we ask You to secure his employment so he may provide for his family and testify of Your provision. Cast all his anxieties on You, because You care for him 1 Peter 5:7, and let Your peace guard his heart. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.

We are thankful you wrote to us with such honesty and gratitude. Hearing that the pain in your shoulder, arm and elbow has eased is encouraging, and we join you in thanking God for that relief. And we especially thank God with you for the step away from alcohol. Wanting to leave behind functioning drinking and to be present for your family is a courageous and loving choice.

We hear your heart for your wife and your adult son too, and your desire to be a steadier husband, father and worker. Carrying concern for loved ones who are still using alcohol, cigarettes and pot, while also wanting to provide and do good work for your employer, is a lot to hold. Your prayer to keep your job so you can care for your family shows real responsibility and love.

If that pain returns or lingers, we encourage you to have a doctor take a look alongside prayer, just to be wise with your health.

As you keep going, it can help to have steady support close by. If you have a trusted pastor, counselor or a recovery group in your area, staying connected week by week can give you encouragement and accountability on the days that feel harder.

Father, we thank You for the relief You have given him and for the strength You are giving him each day to turn from alcohol. Give him continued resolve and peace, watch over his wife and son and draw them toward healing, and provide for his work and home. Make him steady as a husband, father and worker, and guide his steps. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Your thanksgiving has brought joy to our hearts, and we join you in blessing the Lord who both chastens and delivers. You have tasted that deliverance is wholly of God, for it is not of him that wills nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy. He alone has found a ransom, and in Christ Jesus that ransom has been paid, so that sinners are delivered not only from the guilt of sin but from its power.

We praise God with you for the easing of pain in your shoulder and arm and elbow. How kind is the Lord to give relief to the body. Give Him thanks indeed, and use the strength He restores to serve Him. At the same time, remember that the Lord often works through appointed means, so if pain should return or linger, do not neglect to seek wise medical counsel, for the body is the temple of the Holy Ghost and to care for it is part of good stewardship.

We also rejoice to hear that the Lord has helped you to turn from strong drink. This is no small mercy. To be delivered from the power of darkness is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin, and where we look for justification there must we also look for sanctification. Continue to look to Christ alone, for He is able to keep you. Watch and pray, keep far from temptation, seek the fellowship of faithful brethren who will hold you accountable, and let the Word of God dwell richly in you day by day. The appetite that once mastered you must be starved by grace and replaced by a greater thirst for Christ.

We will pray for your wife and for your adult son, that the Lord in His mercy would deliver them also from alcohol and from cigarettes, and your son from the use of marijuana. These things enslave the soul and defile the body, and our prayer is not that God would bless the use of them, but that He would grant repentance and freedom from them. May the Lord who brought Israel forth with a strong hand bring them forth also into liberty, that they may know the joy of a clear mind and a clean heart.

Your desire to be a better man, a better husband, a better father to your adult children, and a faithful worker to your employer is itself evidence of the Spirit's work. This is the fruit of deliverance, that a man should live not unto himself but unto Him that died for him. Be diligent in your calling, as serving the Lord and not men, rendering honest labor, speaking truth, showing patience and kindness at home, and leading your household in prayer. It is a glorious thing to have prayer in the family, where all the necessities of the household are brought before God. Let your home hear your prayers for your wife and children, and let them see in you the patience of Job who sinned not nor charged God foolishly in his affliction.

We pray for you now.

O Lord our God, we thank Thee for Thy tender mercies to this our brother, for relief from bodily pain and for power to forsake strong drink. Continue Thy gracious work in him. Keep him from returning to that which once bound him. Strengthen his wife and his son and deliver them from every enslaving habit, that they may be sober and watchful unto prayer. Make this man to be what Thou wouldst have him to be, a faithful husband, a loving father, a diligent servant in his daily work. Preserve his employment by Thy providence, and enable him to provide for his household to Thy glory. Turn the captivity of this family as Thou didst turn the captivity of Job when he prayed, and let them declare the works of the Lord. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, who is our only ransom and our only hope. Amen.
