Suffering
Christ's suffering reveals God's love and calls us to trust in his sacrifice for our redemption.
Midnight Exploration: Fifth Night
Poverty destroys the poor, and it calls us to confront the suffering it creates and act with urgency.
Self-Slaughter
Suicide is a betrayal of God’s trust in you and demands you choose life no matter the struggle.
We rejoice with you in this thanksgiving and we give thanks together with you for what God has done. In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you. 1 Thessalonians 5:18

We love how you have recognized that this reconnection and this refreshing of your love is from the Lord. It is beautiful to see joy and laughter restored after a season of suffering and pain from arthritis. We praise God with you for that renewal. Praise Yahweh, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits, who forgives all your sins, who heals all your diseases. Psalm 103:2-3 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice. Philippians 4:4

We also want to gently encourage you in how you see His hand. You said He accidentally connected you again, but we know from scripture that nothing with our God is accidental. A man’s heart plans his course, but Yahweh directs his steps. Proverbs 16:9 He has purposefully and lovingly ordained your steps and brought you back to where you started with each other, and we thank Him for His sovereign and tender care over your love story.

We are blessed to hear you call each other a blessing. Two are better than one, and God designed love between a man and a woman to find its fullest expression and protection within the covenant of marriage. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate. Mark 10:9 If you are husband and wife, we pray God will continue to strengthen and guard that covenant and make your marriage a testimony of His faithfulness. If you are in courtship with the goal of marriage, we encourage you to pursue that holy commitment before the Lord, honoring Him with purity and seeking to build a Christ centered marriage together, for God calls us to honor marriage and to keep the marriage bed holy. And if there has been any intimacy outside of marriage, we lovingly urge repentance and a turning to God’s design, trusting His grace to forgive and restore.

We also lift up the suffering you mentioned. Arthritis and the pain it brings can wear down the body and spirit, and we ask the Lord for His healing touch and sustaining comfort over you.

We pray together now.

Father God, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, thanking You for Your goodness and mercy. We thank You for this love that has been refreshed and for the laughter and joy You have restored. We ask You to continue to be the center of this relationship, to draw you both closer to Jesus and to each other, and to lead you into a godly marriage that honors You if you are not already married, or to deepen and protect your marriage if you are. Lord, lay Your healing hand upon the arthritis and all suffering, bring relief from pain, restore strength and health according to Your will, and let Your joy be their strength. Comfort them tonight when they cannot be together in person, and let them feel Your presence as You hold them both. We ask that You keep their love pure, joyful, and rooted in You for all the days of their lives. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to thank Him daily, to pray together, to stay in His Word, and to let this refreshed love be a witness of His grace. May the Lord keep you both in His perfect peace and joy.

We were so encouraged to read your praise. Thank you for letting us celebrate with you what God has done in reconnecting you and refreshing your love right there on the live. Moments like that, unexpected and full of laughter, feel like a gift after a season weighted by arthritis and suffering, and we hear how much it meant to you both.

Gratitude has a way of settling our hearts. It helps us notice we have truly received something good, that we are not carrying life alone, and that there is reason to rejoice even while hard things remain. Holding onto that thankfulness can keep the joy from fading quickly.

It might be sweet in the days ahead to tell him directly what you thanked God for here, and to keep making a little space for that laughter together, whether on another live or in a quiet conversation.

We also pray you continue to get good care and support for the arthritis pain as you walk through it.

Father, we thank You with our friend for Your kindness in bringing this reconnection and laughter. We ask You to watch over both of them tonight, to comfort and keep the one she loves, to ease pain and grant rest, and to lead them both closer to You day by day. In Jesus' name, amen.

Lord Jesus please richly bless, protect and guide them. Please help them in accordance with your perfect will Father. Thank you and praise you. In your holy name I pray. Amen.

There is great cause to bow before the Lord with you in thanksgiving, for every mercy comes from His hand and crowns the year with His goodness. You have spoken well to give thanks, for all the year round, every hour of every day, God is richly blessing us, both when we sleep and when we wake His mercy waits upon us, and such crowning mercies should suggest special and crowning thanksgiving. O come, let us worship and bow down, let us exalt the Lord our God and come into His Presence with the voice of joy and thanksgiving, each heart bearing its offering.

You speak of love refreshed and laughter restored, and of suffering felt in the body through arthritis. Hear what the Scripture declares, He restores my soul. Having restored our soul a hundred times, He still restores it. It is the way of Him, it is the habit of His love. And again it is written, the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. Not only is His fruit sweet and nourishing, but the very leaves, the least things about Christ, are full of healing virtue. There grows no healing herb but the one plant of renown, there is but one sacred Fountain opened on Calvary, there is but one great Physician who lays His hands on men and they are restored, and that is Christ Himself. All our healing lies in Christ. Christ is the Physician, and Christ is the Medicine too.

If the Lord has in His providence brought you again into one another's lives and given you joy after sorrow, give Him the glory with inward emotions of gratitude, and seek His face that your joy may be made pure and lasting. The way to have your souls truly restored is not to try to restore yourselves, nor to undergo any process by which you may work yourselves right, but to look to Jesus, for pardon and healing are placed in happy conjunction and both are bestowed on the Lord's people. When Jesus healed the sick of the palsy He said, Son, be of good cheer, your sins are forgiven you. Pardon and healing were one, and the Sun of Righteousness rises with healing in His wings.

We will pray with you and for you.

Our gracious Father, we thank You for every token of Your kindness, for the laughter You have given and for the mercies which have refreshed these hearts. You crown our days with lovingkindness, and we bless Your holy name. We ask You to look in compassion upon the suffering of the body, upon the pain of arthritis, and to grant healing according to Your perfect will, remembering that You heal the broken in heart and bind up their wounds. Restore the soul, we pray, and make every grace to drink new life from communion with Christ. Keep those who rejoice before You in the way of holiness, that their love may be ordered according to Your Word, in purity and truth, and that whatsoever is done may be unto Your glory. Lead them to seek first forgiveness through the blood of Jesus Christ alone, for there is no other name by which we must be saved, and then to walk in the newness of life which Your Spirit gives. Let Your healing virtue work health and cure till body and soul are presented without spot before You. Hear this thanksgiving and perfect that which concerns them, for Jesus sake. Amen.
