Your thankfulness to God is precious, and it is right to bring every joy and every sorrow to Him in prayer. Nothing in your life happens by accident. God is sovereign and purposeful, and He created us with the ability to choose, so that those who turn to Him in love can know real fellowship with Him. That relationship with Him, through Jesus Christ alone, is the foundation for everything else.
It is a gift when laughter returns after a season of pain, and it is understandable to long for relief from the suffering that arthritis brings. God sees that suffering and He cares deeply for you. At the same time, Scripture shows us that relief from pain or a happy circumstance is not the measure of whether we are right with God. Job was a man described as blameless and upright, one who loved what is good and turned from evil, and yet he knew great affliction. His friends made the mistake of thinking that trouble or sickness must mean something was wrong with his faith. That idea is still taught today, that if you have enough faith you will always be healthy and happy, but it is not true. A right relationship with God does not mean life will be without hardship. It means complete trust and complete commitment to Him even in hardship.
The deepest joy does not come only when circumstances improve or when a relationship feels refreshed. There is a joy that Peter describes as unspeakable and full of glory that comes from knowing your Redeemer lives and walking in His presence, even when answers are hard to find. That joy comes from being centered in what God wants for you, seeking to do what He would have you do and living in the middle of His will. That is where satisfaction and fulfillment are found, more than in any momentary happiness.
Because that kind of joy is so important, I want to encourage you to bring this relationship you mention before the Lord honestly and humbly. God designed love between a man and a woman to be expressed within the lifelong covenant of marriage, with purity and commitment that honors Him. If this is a friendship or a courtship, ask Him to lead it toward holiness, wisdom and self denial rather than immediate fulfillment. If you are already bound in marriage, ask Him to strengthen faithfulness and grace within it. In either case, do not look for God simply to affirm what feels good in the moment, but to shape your love so it reflects His character. The way that seems to offer quick happiness apart from His path often leads away from Him, and the rejoicing that comes from that path is brief.
I will pray for you, that God will draw you closer to Himself, that you will know His presence and His comfort in the midst of physical pain, and that He will give you clarity to walk in trust and obedience. May He grant you healing according to His wisdom and mercy, and may He give you the greater gift of knowing you are loved by Him and living for Him. As you continue to seek Him, may you find that unshakable joy that remains whether there is laughter or tears, in Jesus name.
