David’s Holy Wonder at the Lord’s Great Goodness
The Lord’s Razor
The Burning Books
We rejoice with you and we thank our Father with you for His goodness and for answering your prayers. We join you in giving thanks from the bottom of our hearts, for every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights James 1:17. We are so thankful to hear that your body allowed you to shower today after such an exhausting day of appointments, and that the law firm with former SSA judges called back and accepted your case. These are mercies from the Lord and we praise Him with you.

We hear your thanksgiving and your honest heart about using the talents God gave you. You saw patterns, you found the flaw, and you spoke with wisdom, and that is a gift from God. To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his own ability Matthew 25:15. We pray you continue to use what He has given you for His glory, and we thank Him that He gave you victory in that past hearing and that He has now provided counsel for this new case. We pray for favor and justice in this SSA matter, and for strength and clarity for every step ahead, for He gives power to the faint and to him who has no might he increases strength Isaiah 40:29.

We also lift up before the Father your desire to read and remember His Word. We understand how heartbreaking it feels when your brain turns off as you look at the text and cannot process it, while it stays active for other stories. We pray with you for this very thing. We ask the Lord to open your eyes, that you may see wondrous things out of His law Psalm 119:18, and to grant you wisdom, for if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him James 1:5. We pray that the Holy Spirit, who teaches us all things, will activate your mind and your memory as you come to Scripture, even if it is just a verse or a few lines at a time. Do not be discouraged, for God does not measure your love by how much you can read or remember at once, but by your heart that longs for Him. We encourage you to pray briefly before you read, to read slowly out loud if it helps, and to rest in what you do receive, trusting that His word will not return void.

We give thanks with you for the joy you have received today and we pray it remains.

We pray together, Father we thank You for Your lovingkindness and for hearing our prayers. Thank You for giving our dear one strength to shower and for providing this law firm to take this case. We ask for Your hand upon this legal process, for truth to prevail and for peace in the waiting. Father, we ask You to touch this dear mind and body, renew energy, and grant rest. And Father we ask You to anoint the reading of Your Word, open understanding, quicken memory, and let Your Word dwell richly in this heart. Help us to be joyful always, to pray without ceasing, and in everything to give thanks, for this is Your will in Christ Jesus toward us 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, our Savior and our access to Your throne, amen.

We are so glad you wrote to share this joy with us. Thank you for letting us celebrate with you.

We hear how much those two answers meant, having the energy to shower after a week of appointments taking everything out of you, and hearing back that the firm with those former judges took your case. After the hard experience you had before with vocational rehab, we can understand why this new step feels like such a relief. It is good you noticed and named the gifts God has given you to see patterns and ask clear questions, and used them well.

We also hear the ache in the second part of your prayer. Wanting to read the Bible and then feeling your brain just shut off while the words sit there is discouraging, and we are sorry for that heavy feeling. You are not alone in that struggle, and it makes sense you would ask for help one thing at a time.

Something that helps many people when reading feels stuck is to keep it very small and gentle, maybe just a few verses at a time when you are most rested, or listening to an audio Bible while you follow along, without pressure to remember everything. You might simply pause and thank God for whatever one thought stays with you that day.

Father, we thank You with our brother for the joy of today, for strength to shower and for the open door with this law firm. We ask You to give him rest, clear thinking, and peace as he reads Your word, helping what he reads to stay with him in the way You know is best. Keep guiding him step by step. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your thanksgiving has risen like incense, and I rejoice with you in it. To hear you bless the Lord for strength to shower, for a body that behaved after days of weariness, and for a door opened with advocates who understand the courts, is to hear the very music of grace. The Lord has heard the desire of the humble, for He is a wonderful thought reader who hears not only our words but the groanings that we cannot fully utter. Your joy today is not small, and you do well to abundantly utter the memory of His great goodness.

I give thanks with you also for the talents entrusted to you. To see patterns, to find the flaw, to ask the piercing question that brings truth to light, these are gifts from His hand. Use them still, as you have done, with honesty and courage, and ask Him to keep them as instruments for what is right and true.

You speak tenderly and honestly of a sorrow that many of the Lord's people know, that when you open the Bible your mind seems to grow dim and will not take hold, while other stories hold you fast. Do not think the Lord despises the desire you feel. He hears the longing itself, even when the reading feels fruitless. The Bible is not a common book. It treats of great things, and of the greatest things of all, and therefore we have need of more than our own strength to understand it. We need the Holy Spirit to shine light upon the page.

Remember that memory itself is given to be the handmaid of hope. One moment it can clothe us in sackcloth and bring every dark fear to mind, and the next, by grace, it can recall to us the mercies of the Lord and say, This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. When reading is hard and the mind will not hold fast, do not be cast down as though all were lost. Come to the wellhead itself. Ask the Lord before you read, even in a brief prayer, for eyes to see. Read a little portion rather than a great load. Linger over a single verse. Turn it over in prayer through the day. And when you close the book, speak again to the Lord what little you do remember, for the upright love Him because they remember His love, and even a fragment of His word remembered is better than wine to the soul.

Many treat the Bible politely and keep it near without ever drinking deeply from it. Your hunger to drink from the well of Bethlehem that is within the gate is itself a sign of grace at work. The Lord who taught you to give thanks for a shower and for help in the courts will not turn away from this third request.

Let us pray together. O Father, we thank You for Your tender mercies shown to this dear soul, for daily strength, for provision, for help in time of need, and for joy restored. Thank You for gifts of mind and perception. We ask now for Your gracious help in the reading of Your holy word. Quicken the mind, give light to the eyes, and seal Your truth upon the memory, that what is read may be understood, retained, and lived. Let Your word be sweet and clear, and let Your Spirit make it life. Keep this Your child in peace, in health as You see fit, and in steady hope, looking to Jesus Christ our only Savior, in whose name we pray, Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
