Testing Those Around Us

Sermon Notes: 5/26/13

£ Spiritual Radar
- separates what you need from what you don't need.
- 1st John 3:24 and 1st John 4 first verses.
- Spirits are very real in our world today.
- Spirits stand for several things. Like distilled alcoholic beverage, a mindset or an attitude, the tone of something, an atmosphere, ghost, enthusiasms like team spirit, demons, and Holy Spirit.
- Spirits can be used synonymously for someone's soul as well.
- Pentecostal and other branches of church speak about demonology more than Baptist.
- Satan and his demons are very much alive and roaming the earth
- Demons like Satan himself are set for destruction.
- Some people believe that there are individual demons over specific sins or infirmity, confusion, anger, strife, etc.
- Whether individual or not, they are involved in these things.
- The Bible says to test the spirit to see whether they come from God or the world.
- Identify the possible sources or spiritual activity and teaching.
- There are only two categories which the spirit will fall: the spirit of Christ and the spirit of the antichrist.
- There is no middle ground.
- Everything that we encounter on this earth, it either comes from God or the Devil.
£
- Subject the spirit to the doctrinal test.
- Every person that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh, incarnated, is from God.
- Jesus is God.
- Many teachings believe or say that God was a spirit, a ghost, attacked the humanity of Jesus, and the spiritual concept of Jesus.
- The Bible said he became man. He incarnated and if you teach otherwise, it's going against the word of God, therefore not from Christ.
- The sufficiency of Christ.
- Until Christ comes back, there will always be an attack on the sufficiency of Jesus.
- They want to make you think that God is not enough.
- The exclusivity of Christ
- If someone suggests that there is another way to heaven other than through Jesus Christ who died upon the cross, then it is not from the spirit of God but from the Antichrist.
- God who put his son Jesus, through all that he underwent, was because there was no other way in which we could be safe other than through Jesus Christ.
- 1 John 4:6
- "Those who are from God will listen to us"
- Those who are truly born of God will believe and honor in the living word, which is the Bible.
- There is an attempt to separate God from the teaching of the Bible.
- If you believe in Jesus, you have to live in the word of God that presents us Jesus.
- All you know about Jesus comes from the Bible.
- "You search the scripture but what you don't understand us this testify of me"
- Every spirit that undermines the authority of the scripture does not come from God but the antichrist.
- We need to test the spirit by the doctrinal test.
- We can grow in our spiritual discernment.
- Once you were saved, God put his Holy Spirit in you.
- You can only get more discernment by exercising it.
- Because if you don't exercise it, what used to be firm will start to lose its strength.
- We walk through life not exercising our discernment.
- We watch things, we listen to music, and relate ourselves to, without discernment. Things that used to bother us, no longer do because we no longer mind it.
- We are not testing the spirits.
- The gift of discernment. We all have a measure of discernment once we were saved.
- Some are blessed with the gift of discernment in a bigger amount. They can see through everything. They help you see through the character of people.
- Satan operates as an angel of light 2 Corinthians 11:14
- Satan mingles error with truth.
- He coats a lie with truth.
- He tempted The Lord Jesus Christ citing the scripture
- Satan elevated charm above truth.
- The Bible says charm is deceitful
- The most popular teachings today are popular because they're edgy and elevated
- Satan appeals to our emotion over our faith
- He wants you to build your relationship with God over our emotion, opposed to the scripture and faith.
- Satan wants us to mistake mysticism for spirituality.
- God speaks to us through the Bible, not voices in our head
- Everyone is too busy waiting for voices to tell them what to do, but God speaks to us through the Bible or those around us.
- Satan uses God's vocabulary but has his own dictionary.
- He uses words we recognize but defines it differently.
- When there are things you don't know, remember what you do know.
- 1 John 3:24
- You know that Christ lives in us
- You know this by the spirit he has given us.
- The gift of the Holy Spirit
- Romans 8:16
The Holy Spirit himself will testify with our spirit that we are the children of God.
- The Holy Spirit will let you know that you are saved.
- We have overcome them because Christ overcame them and he lives in me
- And because God defeated them, that means I never have to fear an evil spirit.
- Jesus is greater than the devil
- I need to be informed and aware and test those spirits, but know that at the end of the day he who is in me is greater than he who is in the world.
- The only way to be safe is through Jesus Christ.
- Repent from your sins and ask for forgiveness.
- Say a prayer of gratitude for those who are out there fighting to grant us the freedom to worship our God. Happy Memorial Day.
- May God bless you all and provide you with wisdom and understanding.

May the true spirit Jesus Christ reside in our hearts, in our souls, and our minds. May we love the Lord with all our heart all our soul and all our mind. Amen.
