The Hornet’s Mission
The Centurion: or, an Exhortation to the Virtuous
Dei Gratia
We join with you in prayer for this talk and we thank God that you desire to serve Him and to edify His people through this Christian group.

We understand the nervousness you feel, and Scripture speaks directly to this anxiety. God does not want us to be held captive by fear when we are called to speak for Him. For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control, 2 Timothy 1:7. Also we are reminded, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:6-7. And the Lord says, Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness, Isaiah 41:10.

We notice your prayer said Lord, take away all anxiety, but did not mention the name of Jesus. We gently point this out because we want you to have full confidence before the throne of grace. It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father, for Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. So we always pray in the name of Jesus, trusting that His blood has opened the way for us, and we encourage you to call upon Him by name as you prepare and as you speak.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son. We lift up our friend to You as they prepare to speak at this Christian group. Lord, we ask that You take away the spirit of nervousness and anxiety and fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Let Your Holy Spirit give them boldness, clarity of thought, and words that glorify You and build up those who hear. Help them to remember that it is not by their own strength or eloquence, but by Your power working through them. Let them speak with love and truth, and let their heart rest in knowing You are with them, upholding them with Your righteous right hand. We ask that You anoint this talk for Your purposes, that those who listen would be encouraged, challenged, and drawn closer to You. We trust You with the outcome and give You all the glory. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

We encourage you to prepare diligently and prayerfully, and then to trust the Lord with the results. Spend time in prayer and in the Word before you speak, asking the Holy Spirit to guide what you say. Remember that God is not asking for perfection, but for faithfulness. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men, Colossians 3:23. He will be with your mouth and teach you what to say, as He promised. Rest in His strength, be filled with His peace, and speak with confidence that He has placed you there for such a time as this.

We appreciate you sharing this so honestly. Wanting to do well when you speak to fellow believers can make anyone feel nervous, and it makes sense you would feel that pressure as the talk gets closer.

We are thankful for your willingness to step forward and serve this group. That willingness matters more than a polished delivery, and the people listening are likely there to be encouraged, not to judge every word.

One small thing that often helps is to keep preparation simple and practical. Try saying your opening few minutes out loud once or twice beforehand, just to hear your own voice find a rhythm. On the day, give yourself a little extra time to arrive and settle, have water and your notes nearby, and allow a slow breath before you begin. If nerves rise while you are speaking, it is okay to pause for a moment, glance at your notes, and continue.

We are praying for you as you get ready.

Father, we lift our friend to You before this talk. Grant steadiness and clarity, calm their heart and help their thoughts come clearly. Help them share what You have put on their heart with honesty and grace, and let them sense Your nearness as they speak. In Jesus name, amen.

Your request has been heard and we join you in prayer before the Lord for your talk among the Christian group.

We understand this nervousness, for to speak on behalf of God is no light thing, and to be called to advocate the cause of the King of kings brings a solemn sense of responsibility. Yet a God so good, so good to us, so good beyond all imagination, deserves that we shake off our cowardice and speak out for Him manfully, trusting not in our own facility but in His Spirit to give us wisdom to know when to speak and how to speak.

Concerning anxiety, we would remind you of what has been wisely said, that anxiety has never comforted anybody, nor has it ever brought any grist to the mill. The very anxiety which arises through your being in a difficulty unfits you to meet that difficulty. If a thing does not pay, what is the good of it. Your care about the cause of God and the souls before you is right and good, but if that care remains only as anxiety confined within yourself, no good will come of it. Instead we are to cast our care upon Him, for He cares for us.

Therefore we pray for you, that the Lord will take this burden of nervous fear and replace it with a calm reliance upon Christ who is alive and present with His people. May He quiet your heart, steady your thoughts, and fill your mouth with His Word. May you speak not in your own strength but in the power of the Holy Spirit, with clarity and love, and may your words be for the edification of those who hear.

We pray that the Lord will take away all needless anxiety and grant you peace, that you may be quickened and strengthened for this service, and that public worship and fellowship together may be blessed to you and through you to others. May you find joy in being called by His name and counted worthy to speak a word on His behalf.

Father, we ask in the name of Jesus Christ that You would grant our brother and sister boldness and a sound mind, for You have not given us a spirit of fear. Remove the anxiety that would hinder, and let Your peace which passes all understanding guard heart and mind. Anoint the lips that would speak for You, and let all be done for Your honor and the good of Your people. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
