2 Corinthians 10:4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world, on the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strong holds.
We will be attacked daily for standing firm for our marriage. Satan does not want your marriage to work, he does not want you and your wife to stand together. "A house divided against itself can not stand" Mark 3:25. Satan knows this so of course he is going to throw every thing at you to try and make you give up, to give up hope, to not trust what God is saying that God doesn't want you with your wife. Some times even people we know tell us its hopeless we should give up, let the divorce happen, its not worth it. All though the intentions of friends and family seems pure, they too are deceived from worldly image of divorce. When we are attacked like this we need to use our sword of the spirit (Bible). Remember Malachi 2:16 "For I hate divorce" says the Lord God of Israel. It doesn't say divorce is ok if your hurting. No in fact later on in the Bible Jesus speaks of it as well in Mark 10: 2-12 And some Pharisees came up to Him, testing Him, and began to question Him whether it was lawful for a man to divorce a wife. And He answered and said to them, "What did Moses command you?" And they said, "Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away." But Jesus said to them, "Because of your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment. "But from the beginning of creation, God made them male and female. "For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother, and the two shall become one flesh; consequently they are no longer two, but one flesh. "What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate." And in the house the disciples began questioning Him about this again. And He said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her; and if she herself divorces her husband and marries another man, she is committing adultery." Ok so now that is what you call a swoosh of the sword of the spirit back at the devil.
Jesus teaches forgiveness in fact it is the main reason he came to this earth for, so we can be forgiven. Not only that what does He say about forgiving someone else? When Peter asked how many times he should forgive someone a day for sinning against himself Jesus says seven times seventy Matthew 18:21 Now keep in mind this is after Peter ask if seven times was enough and Jesus came back with a bigger number the point of this is no matter how many times we are sinned against we should forgive. So what is the point of this you may ask? Ok so if you must forgive for everything done to you then, and excuse me for yelling here but WHAT IS THE POINT OF A DIVORCE THEN? Another swoosh against the devil with the sword.
Now this is very important do not use your sword against your wife, as she is not your enemy in fact confronting her on anything is not biblical Judge not lest ye be Judged, Matthew 7:1 ring any bells. Remember when dealing with your wife you speak lovingly and kindly and always act as if you trust her. She is not your enemy
Ok now that the warning is done, what is the point of this post? We have one of the most powerful weapons against the enemy and in order to win this spiritual war of your marriage we must know how to attack with it. The Bible has everything you need to know to gain ground in this spiritual war, the above verses and thoughts are the most common battle you will face in your stance. We need to know our weapons, how they work, what they do and when to use them. The best part about your sword of the spirit is its also a training manual, how cool is that huh its also makes chili and fries(Ok so not really but you get the point). We are in a spiritual war and yes there is allot at stake here, we can not afford to loose this war. Do not be discouraged though in every war some battles are lost and some are won, if you lose a battle be humble pick yourself up dust off the dirt and prepare (Read) for the next battle.
Reading and meditating on His word is a must Psalms 119:15 "I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways". You know you have a cool sword when even your sword says you need your sword.
When you are feeling attacked this is the time we dig deeper, how do you know your being attacked? You will feel doubt, hear ungodly things about marriage, the feeling of giving up, the feeling of loss, anger, hatred, unforgiveness, even temptations to harm someone involved with the situation. Be mindful and aware of your feelings once again this verse has been my rock in this war Galatians 8:9 "And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up". I mean come on how awesome is our sword its a weapon against evil forces, a guide, a tool for inspiration, a marriage guide, the voice of God and the worlds best self help book.
Do not give up my brothers God is watching us 2 Chronicles 16:9 "For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him"
