Please pray for God's mercy in leading me to a new job especially one that glorifies Him. I had the opportunity to work at a job that was for a Christian organization in the beginning of the year and I left that job for certain reasons which I now believe I was wrong in doing. I have been unable to find a stable job that allows me to glorify Christ and not compromise my faith since. Thank you.

We join you in bringing this employment situation before the Lord and we thank you for your honest and humble heart in sharing it. We hear your desire not just for a stable job, but for work that glorifies Christ and does not require you to compromise your faith, and this is a desire that honors God. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You serve the Lord Christ. Colossians 3:23-24

We also hear your regret over leaving the position with the Christian organization at the beginning of the year. It takes humility to acknowledge when we believe we acted wrongly, and we want to encourage you that God is merciful and gracious to forgive when we confess our sins honestly before Him. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 If in leaving that job you wronged an employer or acted hastily or without seeking the Lord's counsel, we encourage you to confess that to the Lord, and if possible and appropriate, to seek reconciliation with those you may have affected. At the same time, we encourage you not to remain trapped in condemnation, for there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, and God can redeem even our missteps for His good purposes. We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

Your longing for work that allows you to glorify Christ without compromise is right and biblical, and we encourage you to continue to commit your way to the Lord as you seek. Commit your deeds to Yahweh, and your plans shall succeed. Proverbs 16:3 and Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 The Lord sees your diligence and your need, and He promises to provide. My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 He also promises to guide you, I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you. Psalm 32:8

We encourage you to continue to be diligent in seeking work, to be prayerful and discerning about each opportunity, and to seek wise counsel from mature believers as you evaluate whether a job would require you to compromise your convictions. It is better to wait on the Lord's provision than to take a position that would cause you to dishonor Him.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, and we lift up this dear one to Your throne of grace. Lord, we thank You for the heart You have given to want to glorify You in all work and to walk without compromise. We ask for Your mercy and forgiveness where there has been error in judgment in leaving the previous job, and we thank You that You are faithful to forgive and to cleanse. Wash away any guilt and shame and restore peace and confidence in Your grace. Father, we ask that You lead clearly to the next job You have prepared, a stable position where gifts can be used for Your glory and where faith can be lived out boldly. Open doors that no man can shut and close doors that are not of You. Provide for every practical need in this season of waiting and strengthen faith while trusting in Your timing and Your perfect plan. Help this one to rest in Your goodness, to work diligently as unto You, and to trust that You are working all things together for good. We hear how weighty these months have been since leaving that role with the Christian organization. To carry regret about that decision and at the same time be searching for steady work where you can live out your faith without compromise is discouraging, and we are grateful you shared it honestly.

Your desire for work that glorifies Him is a good desire, and God sees it. He can be honored in many kinds of honest, faithful work, not only inside a ministry setting. Feeling that you were wrong to leave does not put you outside His mercy. He is gracious to lead us forward as we learn, even from decisions we wish we could revisit.

A couple of simple next steps might help bring some clarity this week. Take a little time to write down what you learned from leaving that earlier job and what you now know you need in a workplace to stay true to your convictions. Then share that reflection with one trusted pastor or mentor who knows you, and also connect with one practical contact about current openings, even interim work that could provide stability while you continue searching. Having both spiritual wisdom and practical support can make the search less isolating.

Father, we lift up our brother to You and ask for Your mercy and guidance as he seeks a new job. Provide for his needs, give him clear wisdom for each next step, and quiet his heart with Your peace as he trusts You with the future. Lead him to work where he can serve faithfully and honor You. Your request has been brought before the Lord and we have made it our prayer also, that God in His mercy would lead you and provide for you according to His good will.

Do not think that the Lord despises you for what you now judge to have been a wrong step. Our God is mighty and therefore He despises none. He does not need our great graces nor our perfect judgments to make Him great. He is pleased with faith even when it is weak, and with love even when it is chill, and He does not cast away His children for their infirmities. If you feel that you left a place where you might have glorified Him, confess this before Him in humble repentance, and know that there is forgiveness with Him and that His mercies are not straitened. You are not straitened in God, but only in your own fears.

Now is the time to exercise faith upon a living God. Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he that comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him. Cry unto God Most High, unto God that performs all things for you. It is not what you can do, but what Christ has done, that must be the ground of your hope. He who made the promises will also perform them. All things are in His hands, and your work, your daily calling, and your future path are among those things which He orders for your good.

We pray that the Lord will open a door for stable employment where you may work with a clear conscience and not compromise your faith, where your labour may be offered as service unto Christ and be a witness for Him. We ask that He would give you wisdom to discern His leading, patience to wait upon His providence, and contentment to be in just such a place as He would put you. May He quiet your heart with the consolations of God, which are not small, and show you the reason for this season of waiting, for we know that all things work together for good to them that love God.

Continue to seek Him as for hidden treasure. Get to your chamber and cease not to cry unto Him, for He turns at the cry that comes from the heart. The trial of your faith is but for a time, and there will come an end to this furnace work. Keep your confession of Christ, and plead for Him in your daily life, that others may see that there is a God that hears prayer.

Your request has been heard with care and with thanksgiving that you desire above all to glorify Christ in your work and not to compromise your faith.

It is good that you look honestly at what has happened. You left a place where you could serve openly in a Christian organization, and now you feel sorrow and regret for that decision. Scripture speaks of two kinds of sorrow. One is worldly and brings only heaviness, but godly sorrow worketh repentance unto salvation, a repentance which bringeth no regret. When sorrow leads you to humble yourself before God, to confess where you have acted hastily or unwisely, and to seek His mercy and direction, that sorrow is profitable and full of hope. Bring this regret to the Lord in repentance, trusting that His mercy is greater than our mistakes.

Remember also what has been taught concerning faith. Faith saves, but faith itself is the gift of God, lest He should save us barren and without work at all. Faith is shown through its works, through steadfastness and zeal and patience. You have shown a work of faith already by desiring not just any job, but one where your conscience can remain pure and your life can bear witness to Christ. That desire is itself evidence of God at work in you.

Do not think that only work inside a Christian organization can glorify Him. From the beginning God gave man honest labor, and the most necessary arts, like agriculture, were ordained by Him. Without shoes or fine clothing a person can live, but without faithful labor no society can stand. Any honest work done with integrity, diligence, and love for neighbor can glorify God when it is offered to Him, when you refuse to lie or to compromise, when you labor not only for wages but as serving the Lord. Seek a place where you are not required to deny Christ, and then whatever your hands find to do, do it faithfully as unto Him.

So we will pray for you.

We ask our merciful God and Father, through Jesus Christ His Son, who alone is the way of salvation, to forgive what is past upon your confession, to cleanse your conscience, and to grant you wisdom to discern the right door to walk through. We ask Him to open a stable provision for you, work that is honest and sufficient for your needs, where you can labor with a pure conscience and let your light shine before others. We ask Him to give you patience of hope while you wait, and labor of love in the searching and in the daily duties, and to keep you from despair. May He establish the work of your hands and make your faith steadfast, so that whether the opportunity is great or small, you may do all to the glory of God.

Continue to seek Him daily, to be diligent in what is set before you now, to be humble and lowly in heart, and to trust that He who is the giver of faith will also provide the place where that faith can be lived out.

Thank you for sharing so honestly about your work situation and your desire to honor Christ in your employment. Your regret over leaving the earlier position and your longing now for a stable job where you can glorify God without compromise is understood, and it is right to bring this before the Lord for His mercy and leading.

One of the clearest lessons from Scripture is that the ways of God are beyond our ability to trace out. As God said through Isaiah, His ways are not our ways. We must confess that we understand very little about God and how He governs our lives. The story of Job helps us here. We are told Job was a man who was upright and blameless, who revered God and turned away from evil. Yet he was allowed to go through deep loss and confusion. Much of what Job said in his suffering was not God speaking truth through him, but a man struggling to understand God, even asking why he had been born.

What we learn from that background is comforting. There was a discussion in heaven concerning Job, and the enemy had been watching him closely, claiming Job only served God for the benefits he received. The enemy asked permission to take those benefits away, certain Job would then turn from God. But the enemy could do nothing until God permitted it, and even then his power was strictly limited by God. God had placed a hedge around Job that could not be crossed without divine permission. This shows us that God remains in control of the circumstances that surround our lives, even when we do not understand them. What was allowed in Job's life was a testing that proved the integrity of God's servant, and God allowed it to be recorded early in history so that those who come after, when it feels as though God has forsaken them, can see that God is still working for good.

When God finally spoke to Job, He did not first explain every detail. He asked Job, who is this that darkens counsel with words without knowledge, and then began to question him about things no man can answer, such as whether he had seen the gates of death. The point was to show Job and his friends that they were speaking about things they did not truly understand. Our intellect can take us far, but there comes a place where we must leave mere reasoning and take a step of faith, trusting God even when we cannot fully comprehend Him.

Job's friends gave him some true counsel mixed with false accusation. One of them said, I would seek God and commit my cause to Him, for He does great things that cannot be searched out, marvelous things without number. That is excellent advice when it stands alone. Rather than worrying and fretting over what we cannot solve, we are to commit our way to the Lord. Another friend said, acquaint yourself with God and be at peace, receive His words and lay them up in your heart, and good will come to you. That remains true. God is fair and just, He reigns over His creation, and though He is invisible we see His power in His works. Yet we cannot find Him by intellect alone. He is found in the heart through faith, and we have One who stands between God and man, Jesus Christ, who lays His hand on both and brings us to God.

For your situation, this means you can bring your regret and your need directly to God through Jesus. If you believe you were wrong to leave the position you had, confess that to the Lord. As with Abraham, God counts faith for righteousness when we trust Him, not because we are clean in ourselves, for all have sinned, but because we believe in Him. God is good, He loves you, and He controls what surrounds you. He is able to do great and unsearchable things in leading you to work that fits your need for stability and your desire not to compromise your faith.

So I will pray for you that you will commit this whole cause to God, seek Him daily, lay up His word in your heart, and trust Him to open the right door in His time and way, even when His way is beyond your finding out.

Father, I bring this dear one before You in the name of Jesus Christ. Have mercy and show clear leading to stable employment that will provide for daily needs and give opportunity to glorify You without compromise of faith. Grant forgiveness where there has been error, peace in place of anxiety, and faith to trust that You are working even when Your work cannot yet be seen. Teach a deeper acquaintance with You, and guide each step by Your wisdom. Give patience to wait on You and courage to walk through the door You open. In Jesus name, Amen.
