Dhitlor

Faithful Servant
Please pray for me as my friend recently found me a second job which I love. I'm good at it but I sometimes interact with difficult people through this job. Because of God's grace (and only His grace), I usually do very well with remaining Christlike and kind toward these difficult people but every now and then, I struggle and want to respond back in a similarly hostile way. I don't ever do but even in trying to respond to these people in a Christlike way, I sometimes might feel myself being somewhat fleshly in doing so. Even if the person or my boss can't tell, I know. Please pray for me about this. Thank you.

We hear your heart and lift you up before the Lord, rejoicing with you in the new opportunity He has provided through your friend. It is a blessing to see God’s grace at work in your life, enabling you to respond with kindness even when faced with difficult people. The struggle you describe is one many believers face—knowing the right way to respond but feeling the pull of the flesh in the moment. The apostle Paul himself wrote of this battle in Romans 7:15, "For I don’t know what I am doing. For I don’t practice what I desire to do; but what I hate, that I do." Yet he also declared the victory we have in Christ: "Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!" (1 Corinthians 15:57).

Your awareness of even the subtle ways the flesh creeps in is a sign of spiritual maturity. The Lord sees your desire to honor Him, and He will strengthen you as you seek Him. We are reminded in James 1:19-20, "So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger; for the anger of man doesn’t produce the righteousness of God." Even when you feel your responses are not perfectly aligned with Christ’s love, the fact that you are striving to act in a way that reflects Him is evidence of His work in you. Do not be discouraged by the struggle, for it is in these moments that God refines your faith and deepens your reliance on Him.

We also encourage you to bring these interactions before the Lord in prayer before, during, and after they occur. Philippians 4:6-7 tells us, "In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus." When you feel the temptation to respond in the flesh, pause and invite the Holy Spirit to guide your words and actions. Ask Him to fill you with His love, patience, and self-control, so that your responses may be a testimony to His grace.

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with grateful hearts for the way You are working in this dear one’s life. We thank You for providing this job and for the grace You have given to respond with kindness even in difficult situations. Lord, we ask that You would continue to strengthen and refine this servant of Yours. When the flesh rises up and the temptation to respond in anger or frustration comes, fill them afresh with Your Holy Spirit. Guard their heart and mind with Your peace, and let Your love flow through them in every interaction.

Father, we pray that You would soften the hearts of those who are difficult to work with. If there is any unrighteousness or bitterness in them, reveal it to them and draw them to Yourself. Help this believer to see these individuals through Your eyes, as people in need of Your grace, just as we all are. Give them wisdom in their words and actions, that they may reflect Christ in all they do.

Lord, we also ask that You would protect their heart from discouragement. Remind them that You see their efforts to honor You, and that You are pleased with their desire to walk in obedience. When they feel they have fallen short, lift their eyes to You and fill them with the assurance of Your forgiveness and love. May their life be a light in this workplace, drawing others to You through their conduct and character.

We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, for it is only through Him that we have access to You and the power to live in a way that honors You. Amen.

Continue to seek the Lord in this season, trusting that He is with you in every interaction. You are not alone in this struggle, and the fact that you desire to respond in a Christlike manner is evidence of His work in your life. Keep your heart tender before Him, and He will continue to shape you into the image of His Son.

We're right there with you, friend. It's a real blessing to see God's grace at work in your life, especially in the way you're handling difficult situations at your new job. We know it's not always easy, and that's okay. Even Jesus, in the Garden of Gethsemane, felt the weight of His upcoming trial and asked His Father if there could be another way (Matthew 26:39). But He trusted God's plan and purpose, and so can we.

Remember, God sees your heart and the effort you're making to respond with kindness and patience. It's in these moments of struggle that we often see God's strength made perfect in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). So, keep pressing on, knowing that God is with you every step of the way.

Let's also remember Paul's words in Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Trust in that promise today, and every day. You're not alone, and God is more than capable of helping you navigate these challenges.

Let's pray together:

"Dear Lord, we come to You today, lifting up our friend. We thank You for the new job and the opportunities it brings. We ask that You would give them strength and wisdom in every interaction. Help them to see others through Your eyes, with love and compassion. When they feel the flesh rising up, remind them of Your presence and power. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, that they may respond with kindness, patience, and love, just as You would.

Lord, we also ask that You would soften the hearts of those they find difficult to work with. Reveal any unrighteousness or bitterness in them, and draw them to Yourself. Help our friend to see these individuals as people in need of Your grace, just as we all are.

Father, remind them of Your love and forgiveness when they feel they've fallen short. Lift their eyes to You, and fill them with Your peace and assurance. May their life be a light in this workplace, drawing others to You.

We pray all these things in Jesus' mighty name. Amen."

Keep seeking the Lord, friend. He's right there with you, every step of the way. You're doing great!

Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
