Strong prayers

We hear your fear and desperation, and we stand with you in this moment, lifting your eyes to the One who sees all and holds your life in His hands. The thought of losing your sight is deeply unsettling, and it’s understandable that fear would grip your heart. But we want to remind you that our God is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8), and He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). Even in this trial, He is working for your good (Romans 8:28), and we trust that His will for you is perfect, even when we cannot see the path ahead.

First, we must address the foundation of our prayers. It is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father (John 14:6). There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not already, we encourage you to place your trust in Jesus, confessing Him as Lord and believing in your heart that God raised Him from the dead (Romans 10:9). He is the Great Physician, and He alone can bring healing, whether in this life or the next. If you have already surrendered your life to Him, we rejoice with you and stand firm in the promise that He hears the prayers of His children.

Now, let us come before the throne of grace with boldness, lifting your need before the Lord:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith. Lord, You formed our eyes and knit us together in our mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13-16). You are the God who opens the eyes of the blind (Psalm 146:8), and we ask You now to guard and protect the sight of Your beloved child. We rebuke any spirit of fear, for You have not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). Lord, we ask for Your healing touch, whether through medical intervention, divine miracle, or the peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Strengthen their faith, Father, and remind them that You are their refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).

If there is any unconfessed sin in their life, we ask that You reveal it to them, Lord, so they may repent and walk in the light of Your forgiveness (1 John 1:9). We also pray for wisdom for their doctors and caregivers, that You would guide their hands and minds as they seek to care for them (James 1:5). Above all, we ask that Your will be done, for Your ways are higher than our ways, and Your thoughts higher than our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). May Your name be glorified in this situation, and may Your child come to know You more deeply through it.

We also want to encourage you with the truth of God’s Word. The psalmist declares, “The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life, of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1). Even if your worst fears were to come to pass, God’s grace is sufficient for you, and His power is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). You are not alone, and you are deeply loved by the Creator of the universe. He knows the number of hairs on your head (Luke 12:7), and He cares for you more than you can imagine.

We also urge you to seek godly counsel and medical advice if you haven’t already. Proverbs 15:22 tells us, “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.” Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Finally, we rebuke any lie from the enemy that seeks to steal your peace or convince you that God has abandoned you. The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came that you may have life, and have it to the full (John 10:10). Stand firm in your faith, put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18), and resist the devil, knowing that he will flee from you (James 4:7).

You are not forgotten. You are not abandoned. You are held in the palm of God’s hand, and we trust Him to lead you through this valley. May His peace, which transcends all understanding, guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). We will continue to pray for you, and we ask that you keep us updated on how we can lift you up before the Lord.

We hear how terrifying it is to sit with fear like this, and we’re standing with you. When a part of our body feels fragile or threatened, the dread can press in from every side. Please know it’s not weak or faithless to be afraid, it’s simply human.

If you’re noticing symptoms that worry you, we’d gently encourage you to see a doctor or an eye specialist as soon as possible. Getting a clear picture of what’s actually happening, even when the process feels scary, often eases the worst of the fear and allows you to take whatever steps are truly needed. It’s not a lack of trust to seek help; it’s part of how we care for the body God has given us.

In the meantime, you don’t carry this alone. We are praying with you, and we believe God’s nearness is not conditioned on our courage or our calm. You can bring Him every racing thought, every late-night worry, and every what-if. He can hold all of it.

Lord Jesus,
We lift up our friend who faces this frightening possibility. Quiet their heart with Your peace that goes beyond understanding. Give wisdom to any doctors or nurses they see, and guide them to the right help. Protect their eyesight according to Your will, and more than anything, anchor their soul in the truth that You will never let go of them, no matter what. Be their steady ground. Amen.

This terror of darkness creeping upon the eyes is a sickness like any other, yet the Great Physician is near. Did Saul of Tarsus not sit in blindness three days before scales fell from his eyes and he beheld the light? His outward darkness was the very door to inward sight. He would tell you now that those days of groping were the days when healing was already working, though he felt nothing but loss. The healing power was conspicuously present when Christ was teaching, only Saul did not perceive it until the hand of Ananias touched him. So it may be with you.

You say you are scared, yet to fear is to dishonor the God who declares, "Fear not, thou worm Jacob; I will help thee." Doubt the Eternal? Distrust the Omnipotent? What is this but traitorous fear, thinking the arm which piled the heavens shall be palsied when it comes to your eyes? He who made the eye, shall He not preserve it? He who formed the light, shall He not give you to walk in it? But perhaps you think you must feel some inward calm before you may trust Him. That is to make a god of your feelings and a savior of your fright. When a man goes to an eminent physician, does he say, "Sir, I will trust you with my case when I have reached a certain stage of peace"? No, he comes trembling and trusts the physician while he shakes. Even so, trust Jesus as you feel yourself dying, and you shall live. Trust Him as you sink, and you shall swim.

These eyes of yours, are they not part of the body for which Christ's own body was broken? The very leaves of the Tree of Life are for the healing of the nations. The least thing about Christ is healing. You need not grasp some great branch of promise; touch but the hem of His garment, take but a leaf, and virtue flows. O you who are brought very low, you have grand opportunities for honoring God if you will but trust Him. "Fear not the loss of outward good, He will for His provide." He will supply the daily need, and spiritual food with it. Healing and forgiveness are placed in happy conjunction. When Jesus healed the palsied man, He first said, "Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you." Pardon and healing were one. Seek first that your soul's eyes are opened to behold the King in His beauty, and this lesser fear shall be swallowed up in the brightness of His appearing.

Yield now. Trust Him whose hands were pierced. Rest in Him whose heart was smitten. He rejects none who yield to Him. Before long, if you trust Jesus, you shall know His healing touch. The point is to start on the walk before you feel the cure. As you go, you shall feel it. Fear not.
