Strong in the lord

We join with you in this desire to be strong in the Lord and we count it a good and godly hunger, for true strength does not come from our own will or effort but from Him alone.

The Scripture calls us to this very thing when it says Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of his might Ephesians 6:10. This is not a call to try harder in our flesh, but to be rooted and empowered in Christ, to put on the whole armor of God that we may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil Ephesians 6:11. We are reminded also Haven't I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don't be afraid. Don't be dismayed, for Yahweh your God is with you wherever you go Joshua 1:9 and Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness Isaiah 41:10.

To be strong in the Lord means to abide in Him daily through His Word, through prayer, through obedience and through fellowship with other believers. It means acknowledging our own weakness so that His power may rest upon us, for He has said My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness 2 Corinthians 12:9. It is in our weakness that Christ strengthens us, and we can say with confidence I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me Philippians 4:13 and The LORD is my strength and my shield. My heart has trusted in him, and I am helped Psalm 28:7.

We notice your request says lord and we want to gently encourage you that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and can be made strong in Him. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6 and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. To be strong in the Lord is to be in Christ, to have believed on His name, to have repented and trusted that He died for our sins and rose again. It is through Jesus that we receive the Holy Spirit who is our helper and our source of power, for God didn't give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control 2 Timothy 1:7.

So we encourage you to draw near to Jesus each day, to read the Scriptures and hide them in your heart, to pray without ceasing, to turn from sin and walk in obedience, and to not forsake gathering with other believers who will strengthen you.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this one who desires to be strong in You. We ask that You fill them with Your Holy Spirit and strengthen them in their inner being with power. Help them to put on the whole armor of God and to stand firm in faith. Teach them to abide in Christ, to trust not in their own strength but in Yours, and to remember that when they are weak You are strong. Uproot fear and discouragement and replace it with courage and peace. Give them a hunger for Your Word and a faithful prayer life, and surround them with godly fellowship that will encourage them to endure. Draw them ever closer to Jesus, and if they have not yet fully trusted in Him as Lord and Savior, reveal Your Son to them that they may believe and be saved. We ask that You will uphold them with Your righteous right hand and make them steadfast, immovable, always abounding in Your work. We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ our Lord, amen.

We are grateful you shared this desire to be strong in the Lord. It is a good and honest prayer, and we are glad to stand with you in it.

We have found that strength in the Lord is less about trying harder for a moment and more about training over time. Trying is a burst of effort, training is small, steady steps that slowly shape us. Growth is usually gradual and even a little uneven, with highs and lows, and often we only notice it when we look back and see how God has been at work.

That training often happens through simple, faithful rhythms - spending time in the Word, talking honestly with God in prayer, and worshiping alongside other believers. These do not need to be long or impressive to be real. God works through them by His Spirit, and He works uniquely in each of us, so your path will not look exactly like someone else's.

One next step that helps many people is to choose just one small and steady rhythm for this week. It could be ten minutes each morning to read and to pray before the day starts, or making it a point to gather for worship this Sunday so others can encourage you. Consistency matters more than intensity.

Father, we bring our friend before You. Draw near and be their strength when they feel weak. Help them to stay close to You day by day and to trust Your work in their life over time. Form them more and more into the likeness of Jesus. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

To be strong in the Lord is of all things the most desirable, and your desire is itself a token of grace at work within you. Human strength is of many kinds, but in any form it will spend itself in due time, yet blessed is that man who is strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. To him the Lord Jehovah is his strength and his song, and He also has become his salvation.

Remember how graciously the Lord has promised to supply what you seek. They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. And again it is written, As thy days, so shall thy strength be. The same God who guides the stars in their courses, who upholds all things by the power of His hand, who feeds the ravens and supplies all His creatures, has promised to supply thy strength, and He will not be unfaithful to His word for want of power in His arm. He gives strength just where the strength is needed, and of that peculiar kind which the trial demands, whether it be physical, mental or spiritual.

You ask how this strength is to be obtained. It is not of the flesh, for so much as there is of the flesh there is weakness, but all the power must be of God working with the truth of God through the Holy Spirit. It is by waiting upon the Lord in complete reliance upon the merit of Jesus Christ, through whom we, though frail creatures of the dust, are made members of the family of God. The joy of the Lord is your strength, and as the light of joy varies so does the warmth of holy strength. He who dwells in the light of God is both happy and strong. Therefore look to Christ, who is the God of all grace to us, in whom we have pardon in His blood, justification in His righteousness, and sanctification by His Spirit. Pray that the Lord Jesus Christ would increase your faith by His Spirit, for faith is the hand that lays hold upon everlasting strength.

I pray that the Lord will strengthen you with strength in your inner man, that you may be steadfast and unwearied, always abounding in the work of the Lord. May He make you strong in faith, and may that strength of faith breed a strength of expectation, so that you may walk up and down in His name with holy freedom and find delicious liberty in His service. May you prove day by day that in the Lord Jehovah there is everlasting strength, and may you labour in His service with all your might, giving your all to God, to the praise of His glorious grace in Christ Jesus. Amen.
