Your burden has been laid before the Lord and before His people, and we have taken it up with you in prayer. To be pressed by failing health and at the same time by a weighty contract which you cannot afford is a double heaviness, and we hear in your cry the desire to do what is right before God and man.
The Scripture says, Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ, and it also says, Every man shall bear his own burden. Both are true. There is a burden which no other can carry for you, the care of your own soul and your own walk before God, and there is a burden of grief and fear which love can help you carry to the mercy seat. We would help you carry this present grief to Him who pities His children, for as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear Him. He knows your frame, your weakness, and your distress, and He is not unmindful of your affliction.
Our Lord Jesus says, My yoke is easy and My burden is light. He does not promise that the burden of life itself will be light, but that His yoke, when we take it and learn of Him, brings rest to the soul even while trials remain. In this strait, seek first to rest in Christ, trusting Him alone for salvation, for the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin, and apart from Him there is no peace with God. If you are His, you have God to yourself in this trouble, and that is a greater portion than any house.
We will pray that the Lord in His fatherly wisdom will make a way for you, whether by opening the heart of the other party to a gracious release, or by providing counsel and means to deal honestly with what you have undertaken. Be diligent to act with integrity, for the Christian must not seek to evade a lawful obligation by less than truthful means. Speak plainly and promptly with those with whom you have contracted, seek godly and wise legal counsel as to what provision the contract itself makes for such hardship, and let all your words be seasoned with honesty and meekness. God honors the upright way, even when the way is costly.
We now commend you to Him who hears prayer.
O Lord our God, Thou hast taught us from our youth and Thou hast not forgotten to be gracious. Look with pity upon these Thy servants who are pressed by infirmity and by care. Thou knowest their health, their means, and the contract that lies heavy upon them. If it be Thy will, grant that this contract may be dissolved without wrong to any, and give favour in the eyes of those concerned. If otherwise, grant wisdom to fulfill what is just, strength to bear what must be borne, and provision for every need according to Thy riches in Christ. Teach them to take Thy yoke and learn of Christ, that they may find rest unto their souls, and keep them from fretfulness and fear. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our only hope and Saviour. Amen.
Cast your burden upon the Lord and wait upon Him. He may tarry, but He never fails, and He will do that which is best for those who trust Him.
