Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing what you are going through. Struggling with ongoing stomach trouble, acid reflux that keeps you from sleeping, and at the same time dealing with painful dental work and feeling dismissed and poorly treated is a heavy burden. It makes sense that you are tired and looking for rest and clear guidance.
Scripture shows that Jesus cares about the suffering of the body. When He walked on earth He healed many different kinds of sickness, the leper who came to Him, the servant of the centurion, Peter's mother in law who lay ill with fever, and crowds who were brought to Him in the evening. Matthew connects that compassion to the prophecy in Isaiah that He has borne our infirmities and carried our sicknesses. That tells us we can bring every physical need to Him honestly in prayer and trust His mercy and power. At the same time, not every verse about health is a guarantee of immediate healing. The well known words about wishing that you may prosper and be in good health even as your soul prospers was a loving prayer from John for his friend Gaius, not a blanket promise that faith will always bring instant physical healing. It does show, though, that God cares about both soul and body, and there is often a real connection between spiritual peace and physical well being. Healing, like growth in other areas, can be a process. The word of God works like seed in the ground, first the blade, then the stalk, then the head of grain, not always all at once in a moment.
Rest is also part of God's care for you. The Bible speaks of sleep as a gift and a blessing, and of wisdom and instruction that watches over you when you lie down and speaks to you when you awake. When reflux and discomfort rob you of sleep, it affects everything. It is right to ask the Lord for balanced digestion, for relief, and for the ability to rest. It is also wise to keep seeking good medical help for this. If you have not already, talk with your doctor about the reflux, about timing and size of meals, about foods that trigger it, and about ways to allow your body to rest more easily, such as not lying flat right after eating. Bring your need for guidance to the Lord, and also use the practical help He provides through careful medical counsel.
The dental situation you describe sounds very discouraging, being unable to get clear answers, being refused a name and a copy of your own x ray, and not trusting the work that was done. God sees when people are treated without respect or clear communication. Jesus Himself was misunderstood and even excluded by religious leaders of His day, and those He healed were sometimes ostracized. He understands what it feels like to be poorly treated and not heard. He is also more at home with ordinary people who are honest about their need than with those who use position to take advantage.
For practical steps, you have a right to your own records. You can make a calm, written request for a complete copy of your chart and x rays, keep a copy of the request and any response, and if needed bring a trusted friend or family member with you as a witness and support. You do not have to return to a provider you do not trust. It is reasonable to seek another qualified dentist for a second opinion, to ask that dentist to review the x rays and explain options clearly before any work is done, and to ask for everything in writing. Document dates, names you are given, and what is said. If an office refuses to provide records, you can ask what their formal process is for releasing records and follow that process in writing.
Do not let this hard experience harden your heart. Ask the Lord to guard you from bitterness and to give you wisdom for each decision.
Let me pray for you. Father, in the name of Jesus I bring this dear one to You. You know the discomfort in the stomach, the burning of reflux, and the exhaustion from broken sleep. You know the pain in the mouth and the frustration of feeling unheard and not well cared for. Lord, You have borne our infirmities and You have compassion on those who suffer. I ask that You bring healing and balance to digestion, relief from reflux, and the gift of deep, restoring rest. Give wisdom to doctors and dentists who can help, and guide to the right people who will communicate clearly and treat with honesty and skill. Give peace that guards heart and mind, and let Your word and Your presence watch over sleep and waking. Provide clear next steps for the dental needs and the provision to see them through. Help to trust You day by day while waiting for answers. Amen.
