[To the apostles, Jesus said,] "You have stayed with me in my time of trial. And just as my Father has granted me a Kingdom, I now grant you the right to eat and drink at my table in my Kingdom. And you will sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel."
—Luke 22:28-30 NLT
Key Thought
While all of Jesus' apostles did forsake him and run away during his arrest, trial, and crucifixion (Matthew 26:56), they had been true to him to this point in his ministry. He let them know that they would have places of honor in the coming Kingdom. While they may not know all that will happen in that Kingdom, they do know that they will be in the presence of the Lord, will eat at his table, will reign on thrones, and will judge the twelve tribes of Israel. While their earthly struggles were great and their rewards in this life seem paltry, Jesus assured them that they will reign with him in glory.
Today's Prayer
Father, give me the faith to wait for the dawning of your day of victory. Help me not to give up when I'm discouraged. Keep me passionate as I seek to serve you with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength. I know that all that I offer to you will be small in the face of all that awaits me in your presence. In Jesus' name, I praise and thank you. Amen.
