We join you in prayer concerning the relationship between our state governments and the national government in the United States, and we hear your concern about the significant impact one has upon the other.
We are reminded in Scripture that all authority is ultimately ordained by God and that we are to be prayerful and subject to that order while keeping our ultimate trust in Him. Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God. Romans 13:1. We also take to heart the exhortation, I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks be made for all men: for kings and for all who are in high places, that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence. 1 Timothy 2:1-2.
In times when there is tension or uncertainty about the balance of power, we must remember that The king's heart is in Yahweh's hand like the watercourses. He turns it wherever he desires. Proverbs 21:1 and that He changes the times and the seasons. He removes kings and sets up kings. He gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to those who have understanding. Daniel 2:21. Our hope is not finally in any state or national institution, but in the Lord, for Blessed is the nation whose God is Yahweh, the people whom he has chosen for his own inheritance. Psalm 33:12. We gently rebuke any tendency to place our ultimate security in government itself or to give way to fear and division, and we encourage instead a steady trust in God's sovereignty and a commitment to pray for righteousness, justice, and humility among all our leaders.
We notice your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and can be saved. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. If we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in our heart that God raised him from the dead, we will be saved. Romans 10:9. It is in His name we pray and seek God's will for our nation.
We pray together now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son. We thank You that You are sovereign over all nations and all levels of government. We ask for Your wisdom to rest upon those who lead at the national level and upon governors, legislators, judges, and all who serve in our state governments. Grant them a spirit of wisdom and understanding, counsel and might, knowledge and the fear of Yahweh, that they may govern justly, uphold righteousness, protect life and liberty, and seek the good of the people they serve. Heal any division between state and national authorities that is rooted in pride or the desire for power, and help them to work together in a way that honors You and promotes a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence. Guard our hearts from anxiety and help us as Your people to be faithful in prayer, to engage responsibly as citizens, and to keep our eyes on Your eternal kingdom while we seek to be salt and light in this nation. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus, amen.
We encourage you to continue to pray faithfully for our leaders, to seek the Lord's guidance in His Word daily, and to trust that God is at work even in complex governmental matters for His glory and for the good of those who love Him.

Your concern for the influence of the national government upon the governments of the states is heard before the Lord, and we join you in bringing it to the throne of grace.
There is no attribute of God more comforting to His children than the doctrine of Divine Sovereignty. Under the most adverse circumstances, in the most severe troubles, we believe that Sovereignty hath ordained our afflictions, that Sovereignty overrules them, and that Sovereignty will sanctify them all. The Lord reigns, let the people tremble. He sits between the cherubim, let the earth be moved. Neither princes nor presidents, neither courts nor congresses, move apart from His hand. He hath not given liberty to thought or to understanding to be free from His government, and all the powers that be are ordained of Him.
We are therefore not afraid, though the waters roar and the foundations of earthly power seem to shake. Our help is to commit all to Him who judges righteously and to trust Him really and intensely, for He will complete His own work. He can stand against both emperors and popes, and His work can stand against every change and tumult among men.
Let us pray together.
O Lord our God, Thou art over all blessed forever, and beside Thee there is none else. Thou hast set up kings and Thou puttest them down, and the hearts of rulers are in Thy hand as rivers of water. We ask Thee to look upon this nation and upon the several states, and to grant to those who bear authority wisdom, justice and moderation. Restrain them from overreach and from neglect, and incline them to that which is honest and good, that we may lead quiet and peaceable lives in all godliness and honesty. Overrule all the counsels of men for Thy glory and for the good of Thy people, and sanctify to us whatever trial or change Thou permittest.
We ask also that Thou wouldst teach us to love Thy Word and to stand in awe of it, for there we find infallibility and there we find great peace. May we not be unfitted by anxiety to meet our difficulties, but may we do the right thing and leave the result with Thee. And above all, grant us grace to look to Christ alone as the sinner's Saviour, believing that he that believeth in Him is not condemned but hath everlasting life.
We commit these governments and this people into Thy sovereign hand, trusting not in ourselves nor in the mercy of men, but in Thy sure promise which Thou hast given in Thy Book. Hear us for Jesus Christ's sake. Amen.

Your concern for the ordering of our state and national government has been heard and we join you in bringing it before the Lord in prayer.
Scripture exhorts us to offer prayers for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty, for this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. When we pray in this way we seek not only outward order but that inward peace which comes from God, without which no outward peace can truly profit us.
We pray now for those who govern at both the state and the national level. We ask God to grant them wisdom, restraint, justice and a mind to serve the common good rather than private ambition. We ask Him to keep far from them counsel that is corrupt or oppressive, and to guide them to uphold what is right and to restrain what is evil, so that the people under their care may live in peace and the Church may freely proclaim the gospel.
We also pray for you, that in the midst of uncertainty about public affairs you may not be troubled beyond measure, but may find your deepest peace in Christ who said, My peace I give to you. That peace guards the heart even when the world is shaken, and it prepares the way for love and holiness without which no one will see the Lord.
Let us continue steadfast in prayer, trusting that God rules over all and works even through earthly authorities for His purposes, and let us live as citizens who honor the authorities while giving our first allegiance to the kingdom of heaven.
May the Lord grant to our land leaders who fear Him, laws that reflect His righteousness, and to His people a quiet confidence to do good and to speak the truth in love.
