Silas
Beloved of All
Spiritual attack that has dogged you since childhood is exhausting, and I hear the weight of that in every line you wrote. The enemy’s ancient strategy hasn’t changed: he pressures your mind with vivid, disturbing dreams, then exploits your weariness to pull you toward sexual fantasies and defeat. But the nightmare and the lust are not God’s doing. He never solicits anyone toward evil; that is entirely the serpent’s work. Temptation itself is not sin, even our Lord was tempted directly by the devil, but sin takes hold when we entertain the thought and begin to yield. Every time those impure images flood you as you’re drifting off, that is a moment of decision, and God is faithful. He will not let you be tested beyond what you can bear. With that very temptation He provides an escape hatch. The hard part, and the courageous part, is taking it. Any dead fish floats downstream; you are called to swim against the current.
The depression you feel often grows because you are telling yourself the wrong story in the dark. David asked himself, “Why are you cast down, O my soul?” and then he answered himself with truth. You can talk yourself into deeper despair by rehearsing how impossible everything is, or you can speak to your own soul and say, “Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him.” When the enemy whispers that you will never break free, that you already failed today, those are lies meant to silence the Word God planted in you. Jesus resisted Satan by countering every lie with Scripture, not by arguing or reasoning. He declared what was written and refused shortcuts. The enemy tempted Jesus to bypass the cross to gain the kingdom; he tempts you to bypass self-denial for a moment of imagined comfort. Both are a lie that fulfillment can be found outside God’s path.
Your dreams have become a battlefield. In Scripture, God sometimes spoke through dreams, but the interpretation belonged to Him alone, Joseph said, “It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace.” Not every dream is communication; some are just the mind processing, and others may be fiery darts from the evil one. The remedy is not to analyze them endlessly but to bring them captive to Christ. When you wake rattled, pray out loud: “Father, send out Your light and Your truth; let them lead me. I reject the fear and the lust. I belong to Jesus.” Do not let those images replay in your imagination during the day; that is where temptation conceives and gives birth to sin.
The sexual thoughts have gained ground because you are tired and hurting, and the enemy knows exactly where the wall is lowest. You once walked free, and that same liberating power is still yours. The high priest you have is not someone who floats above your struggle, He was tempted in every way you are, yet without sin. He knows the pressure to take the easy path, to meet a real need with a counterfeit satisfaction. When you feel that pull, the way of escape might be to rise physically from your bed, to speak a verse aloud, to call a trusted friend, or to change what you consume with your eyes and thoughts minutes before sleep. If you linger in the edge of the fire, you will be burned. Flee youthful lusts, not because you are strong, but because you are desperate enough to run.
The crushing schedule, the job uncertainty, the endless demands from people, all of that saps your resistance. You need wisdom to set boundaries and to discern what God intends you to carry versus what others merely throw your way. The dream of having one primary job and an extra one may be from Him, or it may be a desire born of anxiety about money. Bring that decision to the light. Ask Him to make your schedule sane, to break the pattern of late nights that leave you defenseless. Even Jesus, when the crowds pressed and demons were being cast out, would withdraw to a solitary place to pray. You cannot pour yourself out without being refilled.
For your family’s flu, your father’s cough, and even your cats, God cares about all of it. The same Creator who set the world in motion and dresses the lilies of the field sees a wounded animal and a feverish parent. Pray in simple faith, and do not despise the small mercies. He often sends help through ordinary means; perhaps someone in the church can recommend a trustworthy vet for future need. For your close friend with those heavy physical burdens, pray boldly. God still answers the kind of groanings that have no words. And for the African American community and the spread of false teaching, do not just lament the darkness; pray that the Spirit would send laborers and that ears would be opened to truth that sets captives free.
In your courtship, the greatest encouragement you can offer your boyfriend is a life anchored in purity, prayer, and a gentle spirit. Do not let the relationship become an excuse to lower your guard. The same media that mocks faithfulness and sells “freedom” through sexual looseness will scream at you constantly. Stand against those wiles together, but mostly by tending your own walk with Jesus. If dishonoring thoughts rise up, confess them quickly, not to wallow in shame but to walk back into the light. Shame that keeps you silent is a weapon; brokenness that runs to grace is a lifeline.
The oppression you feel is real, but the seal of God is on you if you belong to Christ. No demonic intelligence can undo that. Stand therefore, and having done all, stand. When the warfare intensifies, it often means ground is being contested because you are already headed toward freedom. Take the escape routes He places in your day, small, practical, often unspectacular. They lead to life.
