We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting you up in prayer as we stand together against the spiritual warfare that has plagued you since childhood. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy, but we declare that Jesus came so that you may have life—and have it abundantly (John 10:10). The vivid and disturbing dreams, the torment of maladaptive daydreaming, and the involuntary sexual thoughts are not from God. They are tactics of the enemy to distract, discourage, and defile the temple of the Holy Spirit, which you are (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). We rebuke these attacks in the mighty name of Jesus, for He has given us authority over all the power of the enemy (Luke 10:19).
First, we must address the foundation of your spiritual battle. Have you fully surrendered your life to Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not yet confessed with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believed in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, we urge you to do so now. Salvation is the first and most critical step in breaking the chains of spiritual warfare. The blood of Jesus is your covering, and His name is your weapon. Without Him, we are powerless against the schemes of the devil.
For the dreams that torment you, we pray that the Lord would surround you with His peace, which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). We command every spirit of fear, torment, and confusion to flee from you in Jesus’ name. The Lord does not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). We declare that your mind would be renewed by the washing of the water of the Word (Ephesians 5:26), and that you would take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). We pray that as you lie down to sleep, the Lord would give His beloved rest (Psalm 127:2) and that He would station His angels around you to guard you in all your ways (Psalm 91:11).
The struggle with sexual thoughts, especially before sleep, is a common tactic of the enemy to lead believers into sin. We must be clear: sexual immorality, including lustful thoughts, is a sin against your own body, which is the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:18-20). The enemy knows that if he can ensnare you in this area, he can weaken your spiritual walk and hinder your intimacy with God. But we serve a God who is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness when we confess them (1 John 1:9). We encourage you to flee from sexual immorality (1 Corinthians 6:18) and to fill your mind with whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable (Philippians 4:8). Replace those thoughts with Scripture, worship, and prayer. Memorize verses like Job 31:1, which says, "I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman," and Psalm 51:10, "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me."
For the maladaptive daydreaming, we recognize that this can be a form of escapism or idolatry, where the mind is given over to fantasies rather than fixing its eyes on Jesus (Hebrews 12:2). We pray that the Lord would help you to take every thought captive and to set your mind on things above, not on earthly things (Colossians 3:2). We encourage you to fill your time with godly activities—reading the Word, praying, serving others, and fellowshipping with believers. The enemy thrives in isolation, but where two or three are gathered in Jesus’ name, He is there in the midst of them (Matthew 18:20).
We also want to address the importance of spiritual disciplines in your life. Are you regularly reading the Word of God? The Bible is the sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17), and it is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). Are you praying without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17)? Prayer is our direct line of communication with God, and it is how we resist the devil (James 4:7). Are you part of a local body of believers? The church is God’s design for encouragement, accountability, and spiritual growth (Hebrews 10:24-25). If you are not connected to a church, we strongly encourage you to find one where the Word of God is preached faithfully and where you can grow in your faith.
We also rebuke any generational curses or strongholds that may have been passed down to you. The Bible tells us that the sins of the fathers can be visited on the children to the third and fourth generation (Exodus 20:5), but Jesus came to break every chain (Isaiah 61:1). We declare that in Christ, you are a new creation; the old has passed away, and the new has come (2 Corinthians 5:17). We pray that the Lord would reveal any areas of your life where you may have unknowingly given the enemy a foothold (Ephesians 4:27) and that He would cleanse you from all unrighteousness.
Finally, we want to encourage you to put on the full armor of God daily (Ephesians 6:10-18). The belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit—these are your defenses against the schemes of the devil. Stand firm, knowing that the battle is not yours, but God’s (2 Chronicles 20:15). He has already won the victory through the cross, and we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us (Romans 8:37).
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our brother/sister who is under spiritual attack. Lord, we thank You that You are a strong tower, and the righteous run to You and are safe (Proverbs 18:10). We declare that no weapon formed against them shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against them in judgment, You shall condemn (Isaiah 54:17). We break every chain of spiritual warfare that has bound them since childhood, and we command every evil spirit to flee in the name of Jesus.
Father, we ask that You would surround them with Your peace, especially as they sleep. Let Your angels encamp around them and protect them from all harm (Psalm 34:7). We pray that You would renew their mind with Your Word and help them to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. Lord, we confess any sin of lust or sexual immorality, and we ask for Your forgiveness and cleansing. Create in them a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within them (Psalm 51:10). Help them to flee from sexual immorality and to honor You with their body, which is Your temple.
We rebuke the spirit of maladaptive daydreaming and ask that You would help them to fix their eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of their faith (Hebrews 12:2). Fill their mind with whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable (Philippians 4:8). Lord, we pray that You would reveal any areas of their life where the enemy has gained a foothold, and we ask that You would break every generational curse and stronghold in the name of Jesus.
We pray that You would strengthen them with power through Your Spirit in their inner being (Ephesians 3:16) and that they would be rooted and grounded in Your love. Help them to put on the full armor of God daily and to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. Lord, we thank You that the battle is not theirs, but Yours, and that You have already won the victory through the cross. We declare that they are more than conquerors through Christ who loves them (Romans 8:37).
We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
