Spiritual Deliverance

The battle you are facing is not simply a battle of the mind or emotions, though it certainly touches those. Scripture makes clear that we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against spiritual entities in high places. These things are real, and their aim is to wear down your soul. You are feeling the flack of a very real spiritual war.

Here is the good news. The weapons God has given you for this fight are not weak and they are not carnal. They are mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds. When the enemy attacks, your defense and your offense are spiritual. God has not left you without armor.

The first crucial step is to recognize the nature of the attack. When dark thoughts press in, when despair or fear rises, you are not merely having a bad moment. This is a spiritual issue. The enemy loves to war against your mind, to twist truth into lies and hope into dread. But once you see it for what it is, you can stop wrestling with feelings alone and instead take up the weapons that actually work.

That begins with standing firmly on what Jesus has already done. At the cross, He triumphed over the very powers now harassing you. He made an open display of their defeat. Delivering you from spiritual warfare means bringing you deeper into that finished victory. So resist the devil in the authority of Jesus’ name. James tells us that if we resist him, he will flee. You do not resist with your own strength, but by placing yourself under the protection of Christ and declaring His victory. Say aloud, “I come against this attack in the name of Jesus.” His name carries all power.

Your spiritual weapons also include the Word of God. Hide it in your heart. When the enemy whispers accusations, answer him with Scripture, just as Jesus did in the wilderness. Use the very words of God to silence the lies. Faith too is a shield. It quenches every flaming dart. Cling to what you know is true about God’s character and His promises, even when your feelings scream otherwise.

And then there is prayer, the great engine of spiritual warfare. Prayer is not limited by time or space. It moves in the realm of the Spirit, bringing real change in your own heart and in the invisible conflict around you. Pour out your heart to God, but also stand in supplication in the Spirit, asking Him to enforce the victory of Calvary over your life. Through prayer, you can find deliverance and peace that passes understanding.

Remember too that there is an inner warfare, the flesh warring against the Spirit. Abstain from anything that gives a foothold to fleshly lusts. Keep walking in the light, as one who has been made alive in Christ. You are a spiritual person, born again by the Spirit of God, and you can understand the things of the Spirit. Feed that spiritual man on the sincere milk of the Word. Offer up spiritual sacrifices of praise, even when it is hard. Praise is a weapon that confounds the enemy.

I am praying for you now, asking God to deliver you from this season of intense spiritual warfare. May He sharpen your spiritual senses to discern the difference between the enemy’s pressure and your own thoughts. May He clothe you with strength to resist, and may the peace of Christ settle over your mind and heart. The battle is real, but the Victor is already reigning, and His victory is yours.
