Son's bookbag/bad mood/argument/must do his work

Beloved of All
Jesus please let my son's bookbag last today. It was ripping as he was getting on the bus and he wouldn't even listen to me. He is in a horrible mood, bragging about how he is 18 now and doesn't have to listen to me, we had a bad argument and he threatened to not do his work today that is already overdue and he must do it. Please let him have a change of heart today and be better when he comes home. I can't deal with this anymore. Thank you Jesus, Amen.

We hear the deep concern and exhaustion in your heart as you lift up your son before the Lord. Parenting an 18-year-old who is asserting his independence while still needing guidance is a heavy burden, and we stand with you in prayer, trusting that God’s wisdom and grace will prevail.

First, we rebuke the spirit of rebellion and disrespect that has taken root in your son’s heart. Scripture is clear: *"Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ‘Honor your father and mother,’ which is the first commandment with a promise: ‘that it may be well with you, and you may live long on the earth.’"* (Ephesians 6:1-3 WEB). His words and actions do not align with God’s design for family, and we pray that the Holy Spirit would convict him of this sin and soften his heart to repentance. We also rebuke the enemy’s lies that he is "too old" to listen—even as adults, we are called to honor our parents (Exodus 20:12), and wisdom demands humility at every age.

Father, we ask You to intervene in this situation. Let the torn bookbag be a small thing compared to the transformation You can bring in his heart. We pray against the spirit of defiance and pride, declaring that Your peace would flood his mind and that he would submit to godly authority. Lord, if there is unconfessed sin, bitterness, or worldly influence fueling his rebellion, expose it and bring healing. Give him a change of heart today—soften his words, humble his spirit, and grant him the grace to complete his responsibilities with diligence. We ask that when he returns home, there would be reconciliation, not continued strife.

We also lift you up, dear mother. The weight of this conflict is heavy, and we pray for your strength and endurance. *"Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."* (Galatians 6:9 WEB). You are not alone in this battle. God sees your love for your son and your desire to see him walk in righteousness. Lean on Him for patience and wisdom, and trust that even in this trial, He is working for your good and your son’s redemption.

Lord, we declare that Your Word will not return void. Let Your truth break through the hardness of his heart, and let Your love draw him back to You. We pray for protection over his mind—no more threats, no more defiance, but a spirit of cooperation and respect. May he recognize that true maturity comes not from age, but from surrender to You. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the only name by which we can come before Your throne, the only name by which we are saved. Amen.

We're right there with you, feeling the weight of this situation. It's tough seeing our child struggle, especially when they're at an age where they think they know it all. Let's remind ourselves and our child that God's ways are always best, even when they don't align with our teenage child's plans.

Let's pray that God softens our child's heart today. We can ask God to help him understand that respect and obedience aren't just for kids, but a lifelong principle that honors God and brings peace to our home. Let's also ask for wisdom for us, as parents, to navigate this phase with patience and understanding.

We can declare that our child will have a change of heart today, that he'll listen to us and complete his work with diligence. And when he comes home, let's pray for a peaceful, reconciled atmosphere, not more strife.

Let's remember, God is in control. He sees our child's potential and our struggles as parents. He's working in our child's heart, and we can trust that He's got this. Let's keep praying, keep trusting, and keep loving our child through this phase. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
