The Termini of Two City Roads
The path you choose in the city determines whether you rise with God’s strength or fall to ruin.
The Finger of God
God’s subtle guidance appears in life’s turns and trials, urging you to trust and follow His direction.
Untrodden Ways
Trust God in new trials, for He guides, sustains, and turns fear into faith.
We join with you in lifting up your son before our heavenly Father, and we feel the weight of this long season of waiting and disappointment. To be so close seven times and to be told he was the second choice each time has to be deeply discouraging for him and painful for you to watch as his parent. We want you to know we are standing with you in prayer for God's provision and perfect timing.

We are reminded that God sees his diligence and his worth even when doors seem to close. His word tells us to Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6. We also cling to the promise that My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19. What looks like rejection to man is often God's redirection and protection, for we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28. The right job is not just any job, but the appropriate one that God has prepared for him, where he can use his gifts and provide for his needs.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently share why we always pray in His name. It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father, and there is no other name by which we can be saved. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. It is by trusting in Jesus Christ, that He died for our sins and rose again, that we are reconciled to God and our prayers are heard. We pray that both you and your son know this hope and peace in Him.

We pray together for your son now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and lift up this beloved son to Your throne of grace. Lord, You know the discouragement of more than six months without work and the pain of being passed over seven times. We ask You to comfort his heart and renew his strength, that he would not grow weary in doing good. We ask that You open the door that no man can shut and lead him to the appropriate job You have appointed for him, one that will provide for his needs and allow him to work heartily as for You. Colossians 3:23. Touch the hearts of the hiring managers and decision makers, grant him favor in their eyes as You did for Joseph and Daniel, and let Your will be done. If this provision requires a move, we ask for Your clear guidance and that You would go before him to make the path smooth, providing housing, community, and peace in the transition. We pray You would establish the work of his hands and let Your favor rest upon him. Psalm 90:17. Provide for all his needs, guard him from anxiety, and help him to seek first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness. Matthew 6:33. We ask all of this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and only hope. Amen.

We encourage you to continue to speak life over your son, reminding him that being the second choice seven times shows he is highly qualified and close, and that God is not withholding good from him but preparing the best fit. Yahweh directs the steps of a man and He delights in his way. Psalm 37:23. Keep encouraging him to be diligent, to rest in God's timing, and to trust that promotion and opportunity come from the Lord. Psalm 75:6-7. We will continue to pray with you that very soon you will have a praise report of an open door and provision.

We have been praying for you and your son as you shared this. Six months is a long time to wait, and to come so close seven times and hear not this time is especially discouraging. It is understandable he would feel worn down, and that you would feel it with him as his parent.

One thing that often helps in a long search like this is having a safe place to talk through the disappointments without having to put a brave face on. If he is open to it, you might ask him how he most wants you to support him right now, whether that is helping think through applications, practicing interviews, or simply listening after a tough no. Sometimes connecting with one or two other people who understand the job market in his field, a former coworker, mentor, or small peer group, can also ease the isolation that builds when so much time is spent applying and waiting.

We also hear your prayer for favor and for a smooth path if a move is needed. We will keep asking God for an appropriate open door in His timing and for wisdom for your son as he weighs each opportunity.

Father, we lift this son to You. You see his diligence and his disappointment. Grant him encouragement, clarity, and favor with those making decisions, and provide the right job at the right time. Give his parent peace and wisdom to support him well, and if a move is part of Your provision, make the way smooth. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your request for your son has been heard and we join you in bringing him before the throne of grace. To be the second choice seven times over six months is a heavy trial, and we understand the weariness and disappointment that you and he must feel in this long waiting.

We are reminded of Job, of whom it is written, In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly. He lost much and waited long under the hand of Providence, yet God sustained him and kept him from an unworthy word against his Maker. May the same divine support be granted to your son, that he may be kept from unbelieving speeches and may still worship even while he waits, trusting that the Lord knows how to uphold his children in all their losses.

We also remember that the Lord turned the captivity of Job when he prayed for his friends. Our longest sorrows have a close, and there is a bottom to the profoundest depths of our misery. The night shall not hang its darkness forever over his life, for God has his own wise ends in these delays, as he had in Job's trial, and when he has accomplished his purpose he will bring forth a good in his own time. Job at the last received more than he had lost, for the Providence of God maintained his estate in a way that his own bow was renewed in his hand.

The doctrine of the sovereignty of God is not meant to discourage any seeking soul. It declares that salvation and all favor come not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that showeth mercy. Therefore we do not rest upon an unpromised favor from men, but we look to the Lord who turns the hearts of decision makers as he will, and who comes with all his soul most heartily to display his favor toward the objects of his choice.

We pray now for your son, that the Lord in his mercy would open an appropriate door of employment very soon, work that is fitting for his gifts and that would enable him to provide and to walk uprightly before God. We ask that if it be the Lord's will, the hearts of hiring managers and decision makers would be inclined to show him favor, and that he would find grace in their eyes. And if in Providence this provision requires a move, we ask that the Lord would make that way smooth, ordering every step and giving peace and provision for the transition.

May your son be enabled to make his approach unto the Lord in childlike confidence even when he seems to frown, and to say with Job, though he try me, yet will I trust him. And may you both be comforted to know that even this waiting is under the watchful eye of a faithful Father who will not leave his own without help. We will continue to pray that the Lord will turn this captivity and renew his strength with fresh oil in due season.
