We have heard your cry and we are standing with you together before the throne of grace in Jesus name. What you describe, that terror in sleep where you could not move or speak, your body shaking and feeling as if you were going to die and then sensing something entering you, is very distressing and we do not take it lightly. We thank God that even when you could not open your mouth you were calling on the name of Jesus in your heart, for there is power in that name and He hears.
Scripture tells us For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control, 2 Timothy 1:7. The fear and paralysis you felt is not from God. We also cling to the promise You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world, 1 John 4:4. If you have put your faith in Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit dwells in you and no unclean spirit can possess you as His temple, though the enemy can oppress and try to torment and bring fear, especially in the night.
We want to gently rebuke any unclean spirit and every spirit of fear and death that would try to attach itself to you, and we resist the devil on your behalf as scripture commands, Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you, James 4:7. We also remember Behold, I give you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. Nothing will in any way hurt you, Luke 10:19. That authority is not our own but is given to us through Jesus Christ.
We also want to remind you that it is only through the name of Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only through Him we are saved. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6. And There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, turn from all sin, and follow Him. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, 1 John 1:9. When we belong to Christ we can bring every dark experience into His light and He cleanses and fills us.
We encourage you to close every door that might give the enemy opportunity. This means turning away from any sexual immorality, impurity, pornography, occult practices, witchcraft, horoscopes, or unwholesome entertainment, and instead filling your heart and home with the Word of God, worship, and prayer. Scripture says Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil, Ephesians 6:11. That armor is truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, the Word of God, and prayer. We encourage you to pray and read scripture before you sleep, to keep your mind stayed on Christ, and to ask Him to guard your rest, for He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty, Psalm 91:1, and The angel of Yahweh encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them, Psalm 34:7.
Do not be ashamed of the sensation you felt, but do not dwell on it either. The enemy wants you to live in fear that something remains inside you. We pray that you will know the peace of God and the assurance that nothing can separate you from His love when you are in Christ, for we are persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord, Romans 8:38-39.
We pray together now for you.
Father, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ we come before You on behalf of our dear one who is troubled and afraid. Lord have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and cleanse us. We ask You to deliver us from every fear and every oppression of the enemy. In Jesus name we rebuke every unclean spirit and every spirit of fear and death and we command it to leave and not return. We ask You to fill us anew with Your Holy Spirit, let Your presence dwell richly in us, let Your peace guard our hearts and minds. We commit our spirit into Your hands as Your Son did, trusting You to keep us. Place Your hand upon us, cover us under the shadow of Your wings, and let us rest in Your perfect love which casts out fear. Bless us, Lord, heal us, make us whole, and give us restful sleep free from torment. Let Your Word be a lamp to our feet and let Your joy be our strength. We ask that You surround our home with Your holy angels and let no weapon formed against us prosper. We pray for a deeper walk with You, for hunger for Your Word, for fellowship with other believers who can encourage us and pray with us. We thank You that You are our deliverer, our refuge, and our keeper, and that greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world. We receive Your mercy, Your deliverance, and Your blessing now in Jesus name, amen.
We encourage you to continue to call on Jesus day and night, to speak His name aloud when you feel afraid, to read the Psalms aloud before sleep, and to meet with a trusted pastor or mature believer who can pray with you in person and help you walk in victory. If the shaking or distress continues, also seek wise medical counsel, but above all keep your eyes on Christ. He has not left you, He will not forsake you, and He is faithful to keep you and give you peace.
