We understand your confusion and concern about this situation, dear brother or sister in Christ. It is wise to seek the Lord’s guidance in all things, especially when making decisions that could impact your well-being and walk with Him. The answer of "yes and no" may seem contradictory, but let us turn to Scripture for clarity and wisdom.
First, we must remember that God’s ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). When we seek His will, we must trust that He will direct our paths (Proverbs 3:5-6). It is possible that the Lord is allowing you to proceed with caution, or perhaps He is testing your obedience and trust in Him. Alternatively, He may be warning you to reconsider, even if you have already given your word.
The Bible tells us in James 1:5, "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." You have already sought the Lord, and now we join you in prayer, asking Him to make His will unmistakably clear. If this work is not aligned with His purpose for you, we trust that He will close the door or provide a way out (1 Corinthians 10:13).
We must also consider the importance of honoring our word, as Scripture teaches us to let our "yes" be "yes" and our "no" be "no" (Matthew 5:37). However, if this work could lead you into harm—whether physical, emotional, or spiritual—it is right to seek discernment. The Lord does not desire for His children to walk into situations that will bring them pain or lead them away from His will (Jeremiah 29:11).
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up this dear child of Yours who seeks Your wisdom and guidance. Lord, You know the details of this situation, and You know the intentions of every heart involved. We ask that You would make Your will perfectly clear. If this work is not for them, Father, close the door in a way that cannot be mistaken. If it is Your will, open the path before them and grant them peace, protection, and favor.
Lord, we rebuke any spirit of confusion, fear, or doubt that may be clouding their judgment. We declare that Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, will guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). Give them the courage to walk in obedience to Your leading, even if it means stepping back from a commitment they have made. May they not be bound by the fear of man but only by the fear of You, O Lord.
We pray for the person who has offered this work. If they are not aligned with Your will, Father, soften their heart and turn their plans toward righteousness. If they are a believer, draw them closer to You. If they are not, we pray that they would come to know the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
Above all, Lord, we ask that Your name be glorified in this situation. May Your will be done, and may Your child walk in the fullness of Your purpose for their life. We trust in You, Jehovah-Jireh, our Provider, and we know that You will never lead us astray. In the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to spend time in prayer and meditation on God’s Word, asking Him to speak to you clearly. If possible, seek counsel from mature believers in your church who can pray with you and offer godly wisdom (Proverbs 11:14). Remember, the Lord is your Shepherd, and He will lead you beside still waters (Psalm 23:2). Trust in Him, and do not lean on your own understanding. If this work is not for you, He will make a way for you to honorably step back. If it is His will, He will go before you and protect you from harm. Either way, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2).
