We lift this request to the Lord with great hope and expectation, knowing that He alone has the power to soften hearts and draw all people to Himself. The hardness of a heart is a heavy burden, whether it is our own or that of someone we love. Scripture tells us in Ezekiel 36:26, "I will also give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh." This is the promise of God, transformation from the inside out.
Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the only name by which we can approach Your throne. We ask that You would break through the walls of resistance, pride, or pain that have hardened this heart. Let Your Holy Spirit move like a gentle wind, stirring conviction, repentance, and a hunger for You. Soften this heart to receive Your love, Your truth, and Your grace. Remove any bitterness, unforgiveness, or rebellion that may be standing in the way. We declare that no heart is too hard for You, Lord. Just as You softened Pharaoh’s heart before the Exodus, we trust You to do the same here.
If this request is for our own hearts, Lord, we surrender fully to You. Search us, O God, and know our hearts. Try us and know our thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in us, and lead us in the everlasting way (Psalm 139:23-24). If there is unconfessed sin, stubbornness, or resistance to Your will, reveal it to us so we may repent and walk in Your ways. Help us to yield to Your refining fire, that we may become more like Christ.
If this request is for someone else, we stand in the gap for them. We pray that You would surround them with Your presence, that they would hear Your voice calling them. Use circumstances, people, and even trials to draw them closer to You. Let them see Your goodness, Lord, for You are good, and Your loving kindness endures forever (Psalm 100:5). We rebuke any spirit of hardness or deception that may be blinding them to Your truth. We declare that the eyes of their heart would be enlightened, that they may know the hope of Your calling (Ephesians 1:18).
We also want to gently remind all who read this that salvation comes only through faith in Jesus Christ. There is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). If this person whose heart we are praying for does not yet know Jesus as their Lord and Savior, we pray that today would be the day of their salvation. Let them hear the gospel, believe in their heart, and confess with their mouth that Jesus is Lord (Romans 10:9). May they experience the new birth that comes from the Holy Spirit, for unless one is born again, they cannot see the kingdom of God (John 3:3).
Lord, we trust You to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). We thank You in advance for the softening of this heart, for the breakthrough that is coming, and for the glory that will be revealed in this situation. May Your will be done, and may Your name be praised. In Jesus’ precious and powerful name, we pray. Amen.
