Smells like Fire

We hear your concern and share in your desire for safety and rest. The presence of smoke or fire can indeed be unsettling, and we join you in seeking the Lord’s protection over you and your surroundings. Scripture reminds us in Psalm 91:1-2, "He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of Yahweh, 'He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust.'"

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts that trust in Your protection. Lord, we ask that You would surround this home and all nearby with Your hedge of safety. If there is danger from fire or any other harm, we ask that You would extinguish it and keep every person safe. Grant peace to troubled hearts and quiet the anxieties that may arise from this situation. Let Your angels encamp around this place, as You promise in Your Word. We declare that no weapon formed against us shall prosper, and we rest in the assurance of Your care. Calm every fear and grant restful sleep to those who seek it. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus, our Savior and Protector. Amen.

If this smell of smoke persists or if there is any sign of danger, we also encourage you to take practical steps, check your home for any sources of smoke, ensure smoke detectors are working, and contact emergency services if needed. The Lord often uses wisdom and preparedness to keep us safe.

May you find comfort in knowing that the Lord neither slumbers nor sleeps (Psalm 121:4), and He is ever watchful over you. Lean on Him, for He is your refuge in every circumstance.

That smell of smoke in the night is deeply unsettling, it cuts through every other thought and puts your whole body on alert. We feel that with you right now. The jolt of fear you’re experiencing is actually doing its God-given job: heightening your senses so you can act wisely and protect the people you care about.

Right now, the most loving thing you can do is take that smell seriously. Check every room, every outlet, every appliance you can safely reach. If you can’t find the source or the smell grows stronger, don’t hesitate, get everyone outside and call for help. The firefighters we’ve known would always rather come out for a false alarm than arrive too late for a real one. Taking action isn’t a failure of faith; it’s stewarding the good sense God gave you.

Once you’ve done what you can, the harder work begins: settling your mind enough to rest. Our bodies don’t easily switch from high alert to sleep, especially when the threat feels close. But you’ve done the practical work, and now you can hand the rest to the One who neither slumbers nor sleeps.

Lord Jesus, you know exactly where this smell is coming from and what danger may or may not be near. Please keep this household safe through the night. Give clear thinking and peace that doesn’t depend on having every answer. Let rest come gently, and let the morning bring fresh perspective and gratitude. In your strong name we pray. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You catch that sharp scent on the wind, acrid, close, uninvited, and your heart cannot help but beat a little faster. The smallest whiff of smoke can pull the mind straight into the thick of the flame, can it not? And now you are asking, in the quiet of your spirit, for two things: safety, and rest. Two things that often seem to flee from one another when the night air carries a threat. But with our Lord, they are never far apart.

Think for a moment of that ancient promise, spoken to a trembling people who had every earthly reason to be afraid: When thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. The Lord did not say you would never smell the smoke. He did not say the heat would not reach your face. But He gave His own word that the fire would have no power to consume you. The very breath of the Almighty stands between you and the devouring flame. He is not a far-off spectator, wringing His hands; He is nearer than the scent upon your clothes, a wall of safety around your room, your home. If He permits the fire to prowl at the door, He will surely keep it from crossing the threshold of His own will for you.

And as for rest, ah, that is a gift straight from the heart of Jesus. Do you remember how He spoke to the weary ones who came to Him? I will give you rest, He said, not as something earned, but as something bestowed. The same voice that once hushed a howling tempest with a word is the voice that speaks peace to your unquiet soul tonight. The danger may be real, but the Saviour is more real still. You may lie down in the shadow of the Almighty, though the world outside be full of alarms, and His peace, a peace that passes all understanding, shall keep your heart and mind through Christ Jesus.

Picture a little child walking through a dark wood at midnight, clinging to her father’s hand. She hears strange rustlings in the leaves, sees shapes she cannot name; but she does not pull away and run, for that strong hand holds her fast. The darkness is just as dark, but the father’s nearness transforms it. So it is with you now. The smell of burning may linger, but your Father’s hand is clasped around your own, and He has promised never to loosen His grip.

Now, breathe deep. Breathe out the fear, and breathe in the quiet faithfulness of the One who neither slumbers nor sleeps. You have asked Him to keep you safe, and He has never yet betrayed a trusting soul. You have asked Him for rest, and He who folded His own body into a boat during a storm will fold you too in the hush of His love.

---

Lord Jesus, our strong tower and our hiding place, we lift up this dear one to Thee in the quiet of this moment. Thou knowest the smell that troubles, the danger that lingers near, and the weariness that cries out for sleep. Spread Thy sheltering wings over this home. Let no evil befall, no flame draw nigh. And in the stillness, breathe a rest so deep and so divine that every anxious thought is swallowed up in peace. We lean on Thee, for Thou art faithful. Amen.

We are so grateful you shared your concern with us and allowed us to lift this situation before the Lord. The thought of danger so close to you weighs on our hearts, and we have been praying earnestly for your safety and peace. We asked our Heavenly Father to surround you with His protection, to calm your spirit, and to guide those who could help if there was indeed a fire nearby.

If the Lord has answered this prayer—if the threat has passed, if you and your loved ones are safe, and if you’ve been able to rest in His care—please share a praise report so we can rejoice with you. If, however, the fear or uncertainty remains, or if new concerns have arisen, we encourage you to post this request again. We are here to stand with you in faith, trusting that God hears our cries and works all things for His glory and our good.

May the Lord continue to watch over you, grant you His peace that surpasses all understanding, and draw you closer to Him through this trial. We pray this in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
