Silas
Beloved of All
It is no small thing to be hounded by an unclean spirit that reaches out with slime just as you try to fix your mind on what is good and true. That sensation is a brazen attempt to defile and distract, to make you feel as though you can never be clean and your thoughts can never stay fixed on the Lord. But the lying spirit behind it has already been defeated by the Son of God. Jesus Christ spoke with absolute authority, “Hold thy peace and come out of him,” and the demon had to obey. That same authority now works through those who belong to Him.
I want you to see what the enemy is actually doing. He wants you to become so absorbed with the slime and the disturbance that your faith loses its grip. When we see that kind of activity, it often looms so large in our senses that it tries to eclipse everything else. But remember: greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. The devil would love for you to spend all your energy staring at his cheap theater, because then your eyes are off the Deliverer. Do you recall what Jesus said to the disciples when they came back rejoicing that even unclean spirits were subject to them? He told them not to rejoice in that, but to rejoice that their names are written in the Lamb’s book of life. That must be our anchor. The evil spirit is a defeated creature, and your ultimate safety is not merely that it will one day be bound, but that you are sealed by the blood of Jesus.
Still, you are enduring an assault, and the Lord hears the sighing of the needy. He says, “Now will I arise.” So we do not sit passively. When you feel that slime, resist it aloud in the name of Jesus. You do not need to cry out in panic. Speak with the calm authority of a child of God. Say, “Unclean spirit, I belong to Jesus Christ. You have no right to touch me. In His name I command you to leave and never return.” Do not dialogue with the thing. Do not let it pull you into an argument. Simply exercise the authority that Christ has delegated to His church. If the assault persists, couple your resistance with fasting and prayer, which Jesus pointed to when his disciples asked why they could not cast out a particularly stubborn spirit. These things still happen today, and they are not superstition; they are part of the reality of spiritual warfare.
And when the slime comes, do not let it convince you that you are dirty before the Lord. That is a lie. Jesus touched lepers and they were immediately cleansed. His touch undid everything that the world calls unclean. Through His sacrifice, you have been washed once for all. The enemy would love for you to feel perpetually defiled and cut off from the presence of God, but the blood of Christ speaks a better word. As you fix your mind on whatever is lovely and praiseworthy, and that interruption comes, treat it as a signal to lift your praise even louder. Sing a song of deliverance. Remember how David, when he was trapped and enemies were tearing at his soul like a lion, still clung to this truth: “I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, so shall I be saved from my enemies.” The Lord gives great deliverance to His anointed ones, not just from the Egyptians and the Sauls of the world, but from every unclean frog-spirit that hisses from the mouth of the serpent.
I pray with you now, not for an eternal imprisonment that we have no warrant to pronounce, but for the immediate cessation of this attack and for the peace of Christ to garrison your heart. May the Holy Spirit surround you with songs of deliverance. May every sensation of slime be silenced and replaced by a tangible sense of the Lord’s cleanness. And may you walk forward with your eyes fixed on Jesus, knowing that He who began a good work in you will complete it until the day He returns.
