We lift up your father before the Lord, knowing that our Heavenly Father cares deeply for His children, especially in their times of distress and weariness. Sleep is indeed a precious gift from God, a time of restoration for both body and soul, and we understand how troubling it is to see a loved one struggle in this way. The Scriptures remind us in Psalm 121:3-4, *"He will not allow your foot to be moved. He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep."* If God neither slumbers nor sleeps as He watches over us, how much more will He attend to the sleep of His beloved children when they cry out to Him?
The sleeplessness your father is experiencing, along with the disruption from coughing, can be physically and spiritually exhausting. While medication may offer temporary relief, true healing comes from the Lord. We encourage you to consider whether there may be underlying spiritual or emotional burdens contributing to his restlessness. Anxiety, fear, or unresolved matters of the heart can often manifest in physical ways, including insomnia. The Apostle Peter reminds us in 1 Peter 5:7, *"casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you."* We urge your father—and your family—to cast these cares upon the Lord, trusting Him fully for peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:6-7).
It is also important to examine whether there are any unconfessed sins or spiritual strongholds that may be affecting his rest. The enemy often seeks to steal peace and rest from believers, but we have authority in the name of Jesus to resist such attacks. James 4:7 tells us, *"Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you."* Let us stand firm in prayer, rebuking any spiritual interference and declaring God’s peace over your father’s mind, body, and spirit.
We also encourage you to seek wisdom in practical matters. Has your father consulted a godly physician to ensure there are no underlying medical conditions contributing to his sleeplessness or cough? Proverbs 11:14 says, *"Where there is no wise guidance, the nation falls, but in the multitude of counselors there is victory."* Sometimes, the Lord provides healing through the hands of skilled medical professionals, and it is wise to explore all avenues while trusting Him for the outcome.
Most importantly, we rejoice that you have invoked the name of Jesus in this request, for it is only through His name that we have access to the throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16). There is no other name by which we can be saved or through which we can boldly approach God (Acts 4:12). If your father has not yet placed his full trust in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, we urge him to do so without delay. True peace—both now and eternally—is found only in Christ. John 14:27 assures us, *"Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, give I to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful."*
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this precious father who is struggling with sleepless nights and restlessness. Lord, You are the God who neither slumbers nor sleeps, and we ask that You would grant him the gift of deep, restorative sleep. Touch his body, Lord, and heal whatever is causing his cough and disrupting his rest. If there are any spiritual or emotional burdens weighing on him, we ask that You would reveal them and grant him the grace to release them into Your care.
We rebuke any spiritual attacks or schemes of the enemy that seek to steal his peace and rest. By the authority of Jesus Christ, we command every spirit of anxiety, fear, or infirmity to flee from him. Fill him instead with Your Holy Spirit, who brings peace that transcends all understanding. Let his mind be stayed on You, Lord, and let him rest securely in Your love.
Father, we also ask for wisdom for his family as they care for him. Guide them to the right medical professionals if needed, and give them discernment to know how best to support him. Strengthen them, Lord, and fill them with Your peace as they trust in You.
Most of all, Father, we pray that if this dear father does not yet know You as his Savior, that You would draw him to Yourself. Let him experience the peace that comes only through faith in Jesus Christ. May he surrender his life to You and find rest for his soul in Your loving arms.
We thank You, Lord, for hearing our prayer. We trust in Your goodness and Your perfect timing. May Your will be done in his life, and may You be glorified through his healing. In the precious and powerful name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
