Sleep

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I come here to ask again for prayers for me to get sleep. I’m trying to clear my mind but so much going on. Please pray for rest for me.

We hear your request for sleep and for rest for your mind, and we join with you in bringing this before our Heavenly Father together in Jesus' name.

We understand how heavy it can feel when so much is going on and your mind will not quiet. The Lord knows this struggle and He invites us to bring every anxious thought to Him. We are reminded in Philippians 4:6-7 not to be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let our requests be made known to God, and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard our hearts and our thoughts in Christ Jesus. And in 1 Peter 5:7 we are told to cast all our worries on him, because he cares for us.

God desires to give His children rest. Psalm 127:2 says it is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil, for he gives sleep to his loved ones. Jesus Himself calls to us in Matthew 11:28, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. And we cling to the promise of Psalm 4:8, I will both lay me down and sleep in peace, for you, Yahweh alone, make me live in safety.

We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to gently share why this matters so much to us. It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. As Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And in Acts 4:12 we are told there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and confess Him as Lord, for in Romans 10:9 it says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. It is through Him we can come boldly to God with every need, including the need for sleep.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we lift up this dear one to You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son. You see the racing thoughts and the burdens that make sleep difficult. We ask You to quiet this mind and calm this heart. Lord, help our friend to cast every care upon You, knowing You care deeply. Grant the peace that passes all understanding to guard heart and mind tonight. We pray You would grant deep, peaceful, restorative sleep, for You give sleep to Your beloved. Let Your presence be felt as a comfort, and let Your Word be what fills the mind instead of worry. Teach us all to come to Jesus when we are weary and burdened, and to find true rest in Him. We ask this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and our peace. Amen.

We encourage you as you seek rest to make time before sleep to pray and to meditate on Scripture rather than dwelling on the worries of the day. Bring each concern to the Lord one by one, thank Him for His care, and ask Him to carry what you cannot. Keep a simple evening pattern that honors God and allows your body and mind to rest, and trust that He remains awake and watching over you even as you sleep.

We hear how weary you must feel wanting sleep and not finding it, with so much crowding your mind when you try to quiet it. Thank you for letting us pray for you again about this.

It makes sense that rest is hard when the day's worries are still unsettled at bedtime. One thing that helps many people is to give those thoughts a place earlier in the evening, before you lie down. You might take a few unhurried minutes to simply tell the Lord what is weighing on you and ask Him to carry it through the night, so bedtime can be more for resting than for sorting everything out. It does not fix everything at once, but it can ease that pressure to clear your mind all on your own.

If sleepless nights continue or you feel worn down during the day, please also consider talking with your doctor alongside prayer, so you have support for your health as well.

We are praying for you and will keep praying for deeper rest.

Father, we lift our friend to You tonight. You see how tired they are and how full their mind feels. We ask You to grant them Your peace and refreshing rest, to quiet what is troubling them and to give wisdom for the things on their heart. Watch over them as they sleep and renew their strength day by day. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your request for sleep and for rest has been heard, and we join you in bringing it before the Lord who neither slumbers nor sleeps yet graciously gives sleep to His people.

There is a rest that is deeper than the closing of the eyelids, and yet it brings with it the very sleep you seek. The psalmist says, Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him, and our Saviour says, Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. That rest is present, perfect and complete in Christ, not a partial rest but a rest given when by faith we lean upon His blood and righteousness. When the mind is stayed upon Him, He keeps it in perfect peace, peace upon peace, even in a world of care and thronging duties.

Much that keeps you wakeful comes from a mind crowded with many things, and we know how anxiety unfits us to meet the very difficulties that cause it. The Lord knows your thoughts and the weight you carry. Sleep itself is His gift, for except He put His hand upon our eyelids we would not close our eyes. So He giveth His beloved sleep, not only the sleep of the body after toil but the quiet of a conscience at peace with God through Jesus Christ.

We pray for you now.

Heavenly Father, we lift up this weary one to Thee. Thou knowest the restless thoughts and the cares that press upon the mind by day and by night. Forgive sin and speak peace through the blood of Jesus, that the conscience may be quieted. Keep the mind stayed upon Thyself, and keep this dear one in perfect peace because of trust in Thee. Grant the gift of sleep, calm the body, still the anxious thoughts, and let the soul find its rest in Christ before the body finds its rest on the pillow. Teach a childlike faith that casts every care upon Thee, for Thou carest for us. Give both the rest that is found at once by coming to Jesus and the learned rest that comes by abiding in Him and doing His will. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Lay your cares in His hands again each evening, and when thoughts return, return them to Him in brief prayer. Trust and you shall rest, and in that trust may the Lord grant you sweet and refreshing sleep.

Father, humbly ask for Your power to intervene. Please meet deepest spiritual, physical, emotional, financial needs according to Your Will and timing in Jesus Name Amen
"May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace." Numbers 6:24-26
