Your burden for your sister has been heard and we join you in carrying it to the throne of grace. It is a tender thing to watch one we love in need of medicine, and to desire for her both the provision of what the body requires and the deeper healing which only the Lord can give.
We are reminded that the Lord Himself is the great Physician, and that His love is itself a medicine. As it has been well said, divine love is a catholicon, a universal medicine, and no spiritual disease can resist its healing power. The leaves of the Tree of Life are for the healing of the nations, and even the little things about Christ, a word of His coming home to the heart, brings healing to head and heart, conscience and affection. A leaf of that Tree is fitted to raise the dead. Healing and pardon are placed in happy conjunction, for when Jesus healed the sick of the palsy He said, Son, be of good cheer, your sins are forgiven you. Pardon and healing were one.
We will pray for your sister, that the Lord in His mercy would supply all the medicine she needs today, that He would guide the hands of those who care for her, and that He would lay His own hand upon her and restore her. Christ did nothing but speak and the afflicted were made whole, for the power to save and to heal lies wholly in Jesus Himself, not in anything in us. He is grand in emergencies, and what He has done for others He is able to do again. We may bring every hard case before Him and take comfort that this Man does many miracles.
You asked also that prayer be made to the Holy Spirit and to the divine Father and to the holy mother. We must gently and faithfully point you to what Scripture teaches, that we pray to the Father, through the Son, by the Holy Spirit. There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. It is through His blood and His name alone that we have access, and salvation is through Jesus Christ alone. For that reason we do not pray to or through any other, however honored, but we come boldly to the Father in the name of Jesus, trusting the Spirit to help our infirmities.
Let us pray together now.
O Father of mercies, we come to You in the name of Your Son Jesus Christ, who bore our sicknesses and carried our sorrows, and who with healing in His wings still draws near to the afflicted. We lift up this dear sister to You. You know her name and her need. Provide for her, we beseech You, all needful medicine and means of care this day, and be Yourself her portion and her health. If it be Your will, restore her body. Above all, grant her to know the forgiveness of sins and the peace that comes from being touched by Christ, for all spiritual disease receives its deathblow when sin is forgiven. Comfort those who love her and teach them to have faith in God in this trial.
We pray also for all who need help today, as you have asked. May many who are weary and heavy laden hear the word of Christ and find rest, and may they learn that if the sinner does but come to Jesus, he shall find no stint in Jesus healing power.
We ask this not because we are worthy, but because Jesus is worthy, and His name is the plea that never fails. Amen.
