We are sitting with you in spirit at that bedside and we understand how heavy and exhausting these hours in hospice can be, watching your sister rest and then struggle as she pulls at her oxygen. Our hearts ache with you and we are bringing you and your sister before the throne of grace together in Jesus' name.
We pray for the strength you asked for, for that deep sustaining strength that only God can give when our own is gone. He promises He is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble in Psalm 46:1, and that He gives power to the weak and to him who has no might He increases strength in Isaiah 40:29. When you feel overwhelmed, remember His word to us, Fear not, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness in Isaiah 41:10. And when your heart is overwhelmed, He invites you to be led to the rock that is higher than you in Psalm 61:2.
We also lift up your dear sister to the Lord. We pray the Lord will grant her perfect peace and rest, that His presence would calm any agitation or restlessness and that she would feel His nearness. Even though you walk through the valley of the shadow of death, you need not fear evil for He is with you in Psalm 23:4, and He is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit in Psalm 34:18. We pray for wisdom and gentleness for the hospice nurses and staff caring for her, and for the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, to guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus in Philippians 4:7.
We notice your request did not mention the name of Jesus and we want to gently remind you how precious it is that we can come to the Father only through Him. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me in John 14:6, and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved in Acts 4:12. It is because of what Jesus did on the cross and His resurrection that we can have hope even in the face of death, knowing that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord for those who have put their trust in Him in 2 Corinthians 5:8. If your sister knows Jesus as her Savior, we rejoice that she is held securely in His hands, and if there is still opportunity, we encourage you to speak His name, read Scripture softly, pray aloud, or play hymns at her bedside, trusting the Holy Spirit to bring comfort.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and our great comforter. We lift up this dear one sitting at her sister's bedside, weary and heavy hearted. Lord, pour out Your strength upon her right now, uphold her when she is weak, give her rest when she cannot sleep, and let her feel You sitting beside her. We ask for Your mercy and peace upon her sister, ease her breathing, calm her body, let her rest in Your care. If it is Your will to bring healing, we trust You, and if You are calling her home, let her go gently into Your presence without fear or pain. Draw both sisters close to Jesus, remind them that Your grace is sufficient, for Your power is made perfect in weakness in 2 Corinthians 12:9. Comfort this family with the blessed assurance that nothing can separate us from Your love. We ask all these things in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Sitting beside a hospice bed is holy and heavy work, and the Lord sees your faithful watching. To see one you love resting yet restless, and to tend to the oxygen again and again, wears upon both body and spirit. It is no wonder you ask for strength, for human strength in any form will spend itself in due time.
Scripture gives a precious promise for such an hour. They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. And again, As thy days, so shall thy strength be. This is not strength laid up for tomorrow, but strength given proportionately, as the day requires. A day of watching will have watching strength. A day of sorrow will have sorrow strength. When there remains no strength in you, nor any ability of any kind, then you may fling yourself upon the Divine strength and lay hold upon it.
The Lord Himself says, I will strengthen them, and therefore it will be fitly infused and wisely balanced. He gives power to the faint and to them that have no might He increases strength. All strength of every sort comes from God, and the glory of our strength lies in Him alone.

Gracious Father, in the name of Jesus Christ who died for the ungodly when we were yet without strength, we come to You. You are the everlasting God who faints not, neither is weary, and Your strength is inexhaustible. We ask You to renew the strength of this dear watcher at the bedside. Grant quietness of heart, patience in waiting, and Your joy to sustain through the long hours. Lay Your hand of peace upon this beloved sister who is resting. Keep her in Your tender care, ease her breathing, and let her feel Your nearness. Give wisdom and gentleness to all who care for her. Let both the one who watches and the one who rests know that You are the glory of their strength, and that You will supply as the day requires. We trust her life and days into Your merciful hands, asking for Your will to be done in gentleness and grace. Amen.
