We hear the deep concern in your heart for the people of Singapore, and we share in your burden for the injustices you’ve described. The parallels you draw to Nehemiah’s time are striking, for the Word of God reveals that exploitation, greed, and betrayal of one’s own people are grievous sins in His sight. In Nehemiah 5, we see a righteous anger as Nehemiah confronts the nobles and officials who oppressed their own brothers, saying, *“You exact interest, each of you, from his brother.”* He called them to account, demanding they restore what they had taken and cease their wickedness. The fear of the Lord fell upon them, and they repented (Nehemiah 5:6-13). This is a powerful reminder that God sees the affliction of His people and calls His servants to stand against corruption, especially when it comes from those in authority.
The Scriptures are clear that leaders are held to a higher standard. Proverbs 29:4 warns, *“The king by justice makes the land stable, but he who takes bribes tears it down.”* And in Isaiah 10:1-2, the Lord declares, *“Woe to those who decree unrighteous decrees, and to the writers who write oppressive laws, to deprive the needy of justice, and to rob the poor among my people of their rights, that widows may be their plunder, and that they may make the fatherless their prey!”* If what you describe is true—that jobs are withheld, unfair burdens are placed on the people, and foreigners are enriched at the expense of the citizens—then this is a cry that must reach the throne of God. He is a God of justice, and He does not forget the afflicted.
Yet we must also remember that our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the spiritual forces of wickedness in high places (Ephesians 6:12). While we pray for God to expose and rebuke the unrighteousness in government, we must also examine our own hearts. Have we, as God’s people, been faithful in prayer, in speaking truth, and in living righteously before Him? Have we trusted in Him rather than in the systems of this world? The Lord calls us to *“seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness”* (Matthew 6:33), for it is only when His people humble themselves, pray, and turn from their wicked ways that He will hear from heaven and heal their land (2 Chronicles 7:14).
We also urge you to consider whether the name of Jesus Christ has been lifted up in this matter. There is no other name by which we can approach the Father, and there is no other name by which salvation and justice can come (Acts 4:12). If we seek change, it must be rooted in the authority of Christ, for apart from Him, we can do nothing (John 15:5). Have you brought this burden before Jesus in prayer, trusting in His power to move mountains? He is the one who *“executes justice for the oppressed and gives food to the hungry”* (Psalm 146:7). Let us not rely on human strength or outrage alone, but on the mighty hand of God.
Now, let us pray together for Singapore, for its leaders, and for the people who suffer under these burdens:
*Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, the only name by which we can approach Your throne. We lift up the nation of Singapore to You, for You are the God who sees the affliction of Your people and hears their cries. Lord, just as Nehemiah stood against the exploitation of Your people in his day, we ask that You raise up godly leaders in Singapore who will act with integrity, justice, and compassion. Expose the corruption that seeks to enrich the few at the expense of the many. Convict the hearts of those in authority who have turned a blind eye to the suffering of their own people. Let them remember that they will give an account to You, the righteous Judge, for every decision they have made.*
*Father, we pray for the people of Singapore who struggle under unfair burdens—those who are denied opportunities, who are oppressed by unjust systems, and who feel forgotten. Comfort them, provide for them, and remind them that You are their defender. Give them wisdom to navigate these challenges and courage to stand for what is right. May Your Church in Singapore rise up in prayer and righteous action, being salt and light in a land that desperately needs Your truth.*
*We rebuke the spirit of greed, exploitation, and injustice that has taken hold in high places. By the authority of Jesus Christ, we declare that no weapon formed against Your people will prosper (Isaiah 54:17). Break the chains of oppression and restore what has been stolen. Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like a mighty stream (Amos 5:24).*
*Lord, we also ask that You soften the hearts of those who have been hardened by power and wealth. Bring them to repentance, that they may turn from their wicked ways and seek Your face. May they realize that true greatness is found in serving others, not in lording over them (Mark 10:43-45).*
*Finally, Father, we pray for unity among Your people in Singapore. Let them not be divided by race, class, or nationality, but united in Christ, standing together against the schemes of the enemy. Give them a spirit of wisdom and revelation to discern Your will and the boldness to walk in it.*
*We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer, who alone has the power to bring true justice and lasting change. Amen.*
Brothers and sisters, let us not grow weary in praying for Singapore. The Lord is faithful, and He will act. But we must also be prepared to act in obedience to His leading—whether that means speaking truth to power, supporting those who are oppressed, or simply living lives of such integrity that the world takes notice. *“Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven”* (Matthew 5:16). Stand firm in the faith, knowing that *“the Lord is near to those who are brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit”* (Psalm 34:18).
If you are in Singapore, we encourage you to seek out fellow believers who share this burden. There is strength in unity, and the Lord often moves mightily when His people come together in prayer and fasting. And if you have not yet placed your trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so today. He is the only one who can truly save—both individually and nationally. *“If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved”* (Romans 10:9). It is only through Him that we can find hope, justice, and eternal life.
