We join with you in bringing these silent requests before our Heavenly Father, and we thank you for trusting us to stand in agreement with you. We serve a God who knows the deepest cries of our hearts even when no words are spoken, and we take comfort that He hears and understands every unspoken burden.
The scripture reminds us of this intimate knowledge and care. Psalm 139:4 says there is not a word on my tongue, but, behold, Yahweh, you know it altogether. Matthew 6:8 tells us your Father knows what things you need before you ask him. And Romans 8:26-27 assures us that the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don’t know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can’t be uttered. He who searches the hearts knows what is on the Spirit’s mind, because he makes intercession for the saints according to God.
We also cling to the promise in 1 John 5:14 that this is the boldness which we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us. And we are called to bring everything to Him with thanksgiving as Philippians 4:6-7 says, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

Father, we come before Your throne of grace in the name of Jesus Christ, thanking You for Your goodness, Your mercy, and Your faithful love toward us. There is great comfort in bringing silent requests before the throne, for our God hears not only the voice of the lips but the language of the heart. The brief, silent prayer which Nehemiah offered is the very mother of many prayers in the day, and such prayers are precious because they leap from the soul in fervent desire and lively faith. You may be assured that what you have not uttered with words you have already uttered before Him who searches the heart.
Remember this gracious promise, I the Lord will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them. He is a prayer hearing God, patient to listen even to our groanings and our complaints, and when you have obtained a hearing with Him you have obtained everything. These silent petitions are not lost. They rest with Him who knows your frame and your need better than you know it yourself, and they check and guide the soul even as they are offered.
And while you wait, rejoice that God has already spoken in His holiness. In giving us Christ He has already given us all things that we may rightly ask. Your Father knows what things you have need of before you ask Him, and whether He answers with a clear yes, or with a wise restraint, you may say with the Psalmist, God has spoken, I will rejoice. Let your heart take Him to be your portion, for to every child of God it is given to say, This God is my God forever and ever, and all that He has and all that He is belongs to His heirs through Jesus Christ.
