Silent requests

It is a precious truth that our Heavenly Father hears even the requests that never reach our lips. You have brought silent requests before Him, and we join you in bringing them to the throne of grace in the name of Jesus.

The Scripture shows us the power of brief, silent prayer. Nehemiah offered such a prayer before the king, and Jacob and Moses cried unto God even when no audible words are recorded, and the Lord heard them. The spirit of prayer is the mother of these brief, silent prayers, and they are of great use to us. They prove that God is not distant but a living reality to the soul that seeks Him, and they check us, quiet us, and keep us in communion with Him through all the surroundings of the day.

We are glad you have coupled your silent requests with thanksgiving, for we often have a closet for our prayers but no chamber for our praises. To call upon God in the day of trouble is itself to honor Him, for it is a truthful recognition that He is, that He hears, and that He is able to do you good. Whatever good you truly need, whether pardon of sin, help in trouble, or comfort in distress, God has the ability to give it to you.

We encourage you to rest in this, that God has already spoken in His holiness, and in giving us Christ He has already given us all things. Your prayers that ought to be answered are already answered in Him. Do not be pressed down by the burden of unspoken cares, but look to the Son of God pouring out His life, and trust Him. Where God begins a work, He completes it. Take Him at His word, believe Him, and rejoice that He is your God who hears in secret.

Let us pray together for these silent requests.

Heavenly Father, You know the depths of this heart better than any words could express. You know every silent burden, every unspoken need, every longing that has been laid before You. We thank You for all You do for us, for Your mercy that is great unto the heavens, and for the gift of Your Son through whom we have access to Your throne. We ask that You would hear these silent petitions according to Your perfect will, grant peace to this soul, increase faith and trust in the blood of Jesus Christ alone for salvation, and answer in such a way that Your name is honored and Your glory is seen. Teach us Your statutes and cause us to rejoice because You have spoken. Deliver as You have promised, and help this one to abide in calm faith, quiet and unshaken in reliance upon You. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Your silent requests have been brought before the Lord and I join you in prayer for them.

Heavenly Father knows what is spoken and what remains unspoken in the heart. You do not need many words for Him to hear you, for He sees in secret and He desires not the death of the sinner but that all should turn to Him and live through Jesus Christ alone, our only hope of salvation.

I pray with you now. Heavenly Father, thank You for Your mercy and for all You do for us. You know the burdens, needs and longings that have not been spoken aloud. I ask that You would answer each silent request according to Your perfect will, for Your glory and for the good of the one who prays. Grant wisdom, strength, healing and provision where needed, and draw every heart closer to Your Son. Lead us to walk in holiness and in Your truth, trusting Your care for both body and soul, and seeking first the care of spiritual things. Give peace to this heart and faith to rest in Your loving answer. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord I pray, Amen.

Thank you for entrusting these unspoken burdens to the Lord. He hears what is not spoken out loud. Even when no words are formed, He knows the heart fully, and He has not remained silent. He has spoken clearly through His Son, and He continues to speak, to declare His righteousness and to call His people to Himself.

You can come to Him just as you are. He is merciful and gracious and patient, yet He is also holy and will not overlook what is wrong. That is why the cross matters so much. Jesus was forsaken for a moment so that you would never have to be forsaken forever. Sin separates us from God, but when we trust in Jesus Christ, God does not count our sin against us. The enemy will tell you that you are too ordinary, too flawed, or too weak to come to God, or that you should not bother Him now. That voice wants to keep you away because it knows that the moment you come, He will wash it away and it will be gone. It is far better to fall into the hands of God than into the hands of people, for His hands are merciful.

God is always the one who begins the work. Our part is to believe on the One He has sent and to rest in what He has already done. It is God who works in you both to give you the desire and the ability to do what pleases Him. You do not have to earn His response through your own effort. As you rest and trust in Him, He gives a quiet peace within. The danger comes when we fall back on our own wisdom and human strategies instead of trusting the eternal God. He is looking for hearts that are fully turned toward Him, so that He can pour His resources and strength through them. When you walk in that trust and in His ways, He brings strength and peace and security.

Serving the true and living God is always for your good. You cannot truly serve Him without becoming more like Him. That is why He calls us not to drift backward but to press forward, closer and closer to Him, with deeper commitment and a desire for His presence. Like Moses, you can speak with God as in a real dialogue, and His promise remains that His presence will go with you and give you rest. He still claims you as His own even when you feel distant, and there is no famine of His Word on His side. He is speaking. The need is for us to keep listening and to keep responding to His love with love in return.

We join you in prayer for these silent requests.

Father, You know every detail that has not been spoken here. You see each need, each worry, each hope that is carried in this heart. We thank You for Your goodness and for all You have done. We ask that You would work according to Your perfect will in each of these matters. Draw this dear one closer to Yourself, give the peace that comes from resting in You, and work within to will and to do what pleases You. Let Your presence go with them and give them rest, and let their life be shaped more and more by knowing Jesus. We ask this in the name of Jesus, our great God and Savior, amen.
