Silent requests

The unspoken cries of the heart, those silent pleas you carry, are not hidden from the God who searches the inmost depths. He beholds the very thoughts before they take shape on the tongue, and His mercy runs ahead of our petitions. So do not fear that what is unuttered goes unheard; rather, let your silence be filled with trust, for His care is more swift than any word. Yet I urge you, let your life speak as loudly as your prayers. See that no slander or malice finds a home within you, for even a true word spoken in harsh judgment brings its own penalty. Instead, clothe yourself in mercy, as our Father clothes and feeds even the worst of sinners, never ceasing to do good to all. And so, in your silent prayers, ask for great things: a clean conscience, a heart that forgives, an unceasing remembrance of your neighbor before God. We lift these hidden requests with you, knowing that He who sees in secret will answer openly, for He desires not the death of anyone, but that all should turn to Him and live.

God hears those silent prayers. He knows the very thoughts and intents of your heart even before you can form the words. That is a deep comfort, because there are often things we carry that we simply cannot voice, or burdens we haven’t yet learned how to name. He is listening not just to what you say, but to what you mean.

When you bring these unspoken things to Him, consider what kind of weight you are actually carrying. So often, we pick up burdens that God never asked us to bear. We make demands on ourselves that He does not make, or well-meaning people lay their expectations on us, and before long we feel crushed under a load we were never designed to carry. The heaviest burdens usually don’t come from the Lord. His yoke is easy, and His burden is light. If you are feeling driven toward despair or burnout, that weight is not from Him.

Thanking Him is exactly the right posture, because it turns your cares into prayers. Instead of being filled with anxiety, you are casting those silent requests onto Him. Trust that the very things you are holding in your heart, the matters you haven’t yet spoken aloud, are already in His hands. He has intended to meet your needs and carry those weights for you. You can let them go. You don’t have to figure out how to fix it all in your own strength; in your flesh dwells no good thing to pull that off anyway.

Rest in this: Christ bore your ultimate burden on the cross, and He is more than willing to carry these daily ones too. Let that bring you a quiet confidence. Put it in His hands. He is going to take care of it.
