Your heart for the Lord and your desire to watch for His return comes through clearly, and your prayers for wisdom, for protection of the vulnerable, and for laborers to carry the good news are deeply needed.
Scripture does say the lights in the heavens are for signs and seasons, and the prophecy of a star out of Jacob pointed to the Messiah, which is why those visitors from the east recognized His birth when many who knew the Scriptures missed it. At the same time Jesus warned His disciples to see to it that no one deceives you and to not be alarmed when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, famines and earthquakes. He called these the beginning of birth pains and said the one who perseveres to the end will be saved, and that the gospel of the kingdom must be preached in all the world as a testimony to all nations. That keeps our focus steady. We watch, but we are not driven by speculation about eclipses, alignments or meteor showers. We stay grounded in what is sure.
The beginning of real knowledge is reverent fear of the Lord. That fear is not a vague dread but a hatred of evil and a choice to turn from it. When we choose that path, we walk in wisdom. Those who despise instruction and refuse that reverence end up calling for help when distress comes and finding no answer because they hated knowledge. To fear the Lord and depart from evil brings health to the soul and steadiness to life, and it also shapes how we honor Him with what He has entrusted to us.
God has offered a peace treaty to those who were at war with Him. Through the blood of Jesus we can have peace with God, and that peace then quiets the war inside our own hearts. The inner turmoil that comes from living for self is replaced by calm, and from that calm we can live at peace with others. The wisdom that comes from above is peaceable. It does not stir up strife but sows righteousness in peace, and those who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.
That peace deepens as our minds stay on Him because we trust Him. He promises to keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is fixed on Him. Jesus said, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you, not as the world gives. This is more than having peace with God at salvation, it is knowing the peace of God day by day to guard heart and mind. It is the peace that passes all understanding, and it holds us even when the earth shakes and mountains are carried into the sea. He remains our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble, therefore we will not fear.
Fear and faith cannot rule at the same time. When fear takes over, faith departs, and when faith is strong, fear loses its grip. The cure for fear is remembering the Lord and His presence. Again and again He says, fear not, for I am with you, be not dismayed for I am your God, I will strengthen you and uphold you with my right hand. He is our light and salvation, whom shall we fear, He is the strength of our life, of whom shall we be afraid. In the time of trouble He hides us. We do what is wise and prudent, but we do not act from panic or from fear of what the enemy might do. If God is for us and with us, we can stand firm.
We join you in praying for the communities devastated in the recent disaster you described, with so many lives lost, so many injured and missing, with homes and even the hospital wards for children reduced to rubble. We ask the Lord to protect the young, women, the injured and the elderly, to raise up and send medical teams and other laborers filled with compassion, faith and mercy, to bring healing, comfort and salvation, and to deliver people from evil and lead them away from temptation. We also pray for Jerusalem, which God said would become a heavy stone for the nations, and for all the tensions among nations and kingdoms that you mentioned. We pray for the peace of the places where God has placed us, knowing that in their peace we find peace, and we remember that His thoughts toward His people are thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give a future and a hope. He has not forgotten His own, even in captivity or chaos. When we call upon Him and seek Him, He hears us.
The way to prepare for storms, wars or famines is not to try to calculate a shift but to build on the rock by hearing the words of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount and putting them into practice. That foundation holds when rain and torrents come. Arm yourselves with the same purpose Christ had, gird up the loins of your mind, endure as a good soldier, and keep preaching the good news, healing the sick, and encouraging one another that Christ is coming again.
May the Lord keep you in perfect peace as your mind stays on Him, may His peace that passes understanding guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus, may He strengthen you and lift His countenance upon you and give you peace.
