Should We Be Baptized in the Name of The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit or in the Name of Jesus?

Amen -- as long as they're getting baptized! And the "wedding ring" analogy is right on -- can you imagine the "public identification" and witness being baptized on the day of Pentecost carried with it? The most powerful government in the world had been used as a tool to fulfill the will of the Father.

Jesus' prayer, "not my will but Yours be done" was heard as The Letter to the Hebrews says, "because of His godly reverence," Heb 5:7. It wasn't Jesus' prayer for deliverance FROM the cup of death that was His final request, Matt 26:39, Mk 14:26, Lk 22:42 -- but rather His final submission that the will of His Father would be done -- thank You Jesus for humbling yourself to death on a cross made from wood from a tree!

Those 3,000 were saying, "we publicly identify with the death not only of Jesus, but ourselves -- we're part of this group the leaders and powerful government had just tried to stamp out now." It came at great cost and certainly wasn't -- "every head bowed and every eye closed," nor was it done in some remote place, secure and out of sight... They "took up their own crosses and followed Jesus" from day one, Matt 16:24, Mk 8:24, Lk 9:23...

"Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?" Rom 6:23.

Peter summarizes salvation as "baptism now saves you," 1 Peter 3:21 -- it's what's called a "synecdoche" (figure of speech where a part is used for the whole -- the first astronaut that walked on the moon was "one small step for man, but a giant leap for mankind." It represented all that would follow, and here baptism is used as a symbol for all of the Christian life!

That would weed out a lot of "false premises" for coming to Christ, if we knew we would instantly be excluded from common rights and privileges, be associated with Jesus (who in most minds of the contemporaries of the time were unaware of His resurrection). They were willing to die for Christ from the very start...

More on this at a latter time, Lord willing, (and He is willing)! God bless in Jesus' Name
