[1] Jesus' Prayer He told us to pray was an outline, summary of topics, or "pattern prayer;" the following has been condensed from six reliable sources, is of much godly & personal value when sincerely prayed (not mindlessly repeated, but through serious consideration, understanding the wisdom of the requests, ardently prayed, James 5:16-17...

Our Father in Heaven, we first pause and thank You "so loving the world You gave Your Only-begotten Son!, Jn 3:16. Thank You "Jesus showed us The Father -- Your Nature," Jn 14:9. Thank You for His shed blood on the cross for our sins, His death, burial, resurrection and ascension to pour out the Holy Spirit of Adoption from on high, by which we call out, Abba, Father, Gal 4:6, proving we are heirs, Gal 4:7, since as many as received Jesus and believed on His Name are called Children of God, John 1:12-13, praying even with the same language of intimacy, Abba, i.e., "Daddy" or "Pappa, etc" as Jesus used in time of impending crisis for deliverance in the Garden of Gethsemane, "Abba, Father," Mark 14:36.

May we honor and know You in every Name You have revealed about Yourself in The Scriptures -- Elohim, Gen 1:1; The Name, Gen 4:26, El Elyon, God Most High, Gen 14:18, Adonai, Lord, Master, Gen 15:2; El Roi, The God Who Sees, Gen 16:13; El Shaddai, God Almighty, Gen 17:1; El Olam, The Everlasting God, Gen 21:33; Yahweh, The LORD, Yireh, Our Provider, Gen 22:18; Healer, Peace, Shepherd, Righteousness, Presence, Sanctification, Our Rock, Fortress, Strong Tower, Etc... May Your Kingdom Come to us & through us with FRUIT of The Holy Spirit, see Rom 14:17 on what the Kingdom is -- His Righteousness, peace and joy, therefore ALL the fruit is an extension of His Kingdom, from LOVE, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control, Gal 5:22-23, truth, humility & justice, Ps 45:4, contentment, Lk 3:14, 1 Tim 6:6, Heb 13:5, Phil 4:11-13, doing justly, loving mercy and walking humbly with God, Micah 6:8. You desire mercy, not sacrifice, Hos 6:6. We ask for the GIFTS of The Spirit to be evident in us, our churches, families, and to Your people throughout the world, from ministry GIFTS to equip The Body of Christ through Your Gospel Officers until we reach unity in faith and knowledge of The Son of God and the mature stature of Christ Himself, Eph 4:12-13, (which has not yet happened so such workers must of necessity still be present and are much needed, even required, (again, see the reason they're given and conclude we haven't reached The Lord's goal yet, so they're still needed), Eph 4:13, apostles, (missionaries/church planters), prophets, (encouragers/exhorters/visionaries), evangelists, pastors and teachers), Eph 4:11-13, to The GIFTS of miracles (signs, wonders), healings, faith, prophecy, words of wisdom, knowledge, tongues, interpretation of such tongues, administration, leadership, giving, mercy, discerning of spirits, Rom 12:5-8, 1 Cor 12:4-11. Mostly the POWER to live a Holy Life overflowing with LOVE for God and others, singing and making melody from "singing seminaries" and "the walking practice of evangelism" is the best fruit and sign of the Kingdom, Heb 12:4. ***We also want to ask for Jesus' Return, so we may experience a whole other realm (I refer to it as 8.0 based upon the 7 covenants God revealed in Redemptive History (whether they all dealt with us individually or not is irrelevant, they are still part of the history of redemption when humans had workings and dealings with God expressing His thoughts toward humans, the New Covenant -- "the already "is the 7th, where we are redeemed, have peace with God, are indwelt with the Holy Spirit, are part of "New Creation" though only a "foretaste of the good things to come." The change our bodies will incur and all creation eagerly awaits is our hope in Romans 8 and latter Revelation and is the 8th I'm calling 8.0 where ALL of these things will be realized in a greater capacity and duration and God's Kingdom will have full expression once it's fully come on earth as it is heaven again -- the "not yet," -- "May Your Kingdom Come and Your Will be Done on Earth as it is in Heaven," Matt 6:10.

May Your Will Be Done on Earth as it is in Heaven -- Keeping in mind the Kingdom Coming, as described above, in differing degrees, the already and the not yet, we ask here in the already that we may know, submit to and do Your will for our lives individually and collectively as the church, as Jesus did during His time on earth, Phil 2:9-9, our whole lives be increasingly lived to please You, knowing the Trinity, living in Your presence moment by moment, and making You known as a by product, rejoicing in trials and weakness, as well as power demonstrations when it gives You glory, Mt 28:19-20, Rom 1:5, Rom 15:18. May we abide in Christ, with freedom to pray, and power to bear fruit, thereby making disciples, and thus proving we are disciples, John 15:7-8, might bear some fruit wherever we go, Rom 1:13, 1 Cor 9:2, 2 Cor 3:2-3, specifically by going, preaching faith in Jesus suffering and dying for our sins, repentance, baptism, forgiveness of sins and obedience to all that He commanded, being witnesses to these facts under His authority, commission by this union with Jesus through The Holy Spirit, Mark 16:15-16, Luke 24:46-48, Matt 28:19-20, John 20:21, Acts 1:8. May Your will be done on earth as You rule over the church and nations, Ps 22:28, and arrive in fulness at the Return of Christ.

Give us Each Day our Daily Bread: Spiritual -- we can't live by bread alone but every Word of God, Deut 8:3, Matt 4:4, Lk 4:4. Meet our spiritual, emotional, social, physical and financial needs mightily, Phil 4:19, so we can love You with all our heart, soul, mind, will, emotions, physical strength and finances, Mk 12:30, and our neighbors, Mk 12:31, even the lost, Matt 9:36, and even enemies, Matt 5:44, as ourselves -- and see others as Christ, who looked beyond his own interests, to the interests of others, considering others as more important than we, Phil 2:1-5.

Forgive Our Debts as We Forgive Our Debtors... We confess we've sinned against You, Rom 3:23, 1 Jn 1:8, 1 Jn 1:10 (name specific sins and areas of ongoing struggles), and others, receive forgiveness, Lk 1:77, & pray FOR those who sin against us, (by name and specific offenses), asking they'd repent and be saved, Job 42:7-16, entrusting their souls to a faithful creator and recognizing it is He who alone who is in fact the one appointed both to save and to judge, Romans 12:9, 1 Pet 4:19.

Lead us Not into Temptation, but Deliver us from evil... Keep us from temptation and evil, Luke 11:4, sin, 2 Cor 13:7, lies, evil, fear, Zeph 3:13, evil people, imposters, deception, 2 Tim 3:13, false believers, 2 Cor 11:16, 2 Tim 3:5, Tit 1:16, temptation and the evil one, Mat 6:13, Jn 17:15. Give us angelic protection, Ps 91:10-11, Heb 1:14.

For It's Your Kingdom, (Everlasting Kingdom which Cannot Be Destroyed, Dan 7:18), It's Your Power, (All Power in Heaven and Earth has been Given to Me, Matt 28:18), and Your Glory, Forever... (Not unto us O Lord, but unto Your Name Be Glory, Ps 115:1)... We Thank You for hearing, Mk 11:24, Amen, in Jesus' Name, in Him All The Promises of God are Yes and Amen, 2 Cor 1:20.

We join you in thanking our Father for giving us this perfect pattern for prayer and we rejoice with you in the depth and beauty you have drawn from it.

We agree that Jesus did not give us vain repetition to recite mindlessly, for He said, But in praying, don't use vain repetitions, as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their much speaking, Matt 6:7. Rather He gave us a pattern to shape our hearts, first seeking the Father and His glory before we bring our own needs, just as He taught, But seek first God's Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well, Matt 6:33.

We love how you have divided it so faithfully. Pray, then, like this, Our Father who is in heaven, may your name be kept holy. Let your Kingdom come. Let your will be done on earth as it is in heaven, Matt 6:9-10. We pause with you to thank the Father for so loving the world that He gave His one and only Son, John 3:16, and that Jesus has shown us the Father, John 14:9, and that through His shed blood, death, burial, resurrection and ascension we have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father, Gal 4:6, and if children, then heirs, Gal 4:7, for as many as received Him, to them he gave the right to become God's children, to those who believe in his name, John 1:12.

We hallow His name with you, praying that His gracious and compassionate name, revealed as The LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness and truth, Exod 34:6, would be honored in our thoughts, words and deeds, and that we would not take the name of the LORD our God in vain, Exod 20:7, but that our lives would cause His name to be reverenced and not blasphemed among the nations, Rom 2:24, until the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea, Hab 2:14, and that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father, Phil 2:10-11.

We join you in praying for His Kingdom to come through us in the fruit of the Spirit, for the Kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit, Rom 14:17, and the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control, Gal 5:22-23, and to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God, Mic 6:8. We ask with you for the gifts of the Spirit to build up the body, for He gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the perfecting of the saints, to the work of serving, to the building up of the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, Eph 4:11-13, and for power, for the Kingdom of God is not in word, but in power, 1 Cor 4:20, and that He would drive out darkness and keep us holy, until He comes quickly, Rev 22:20.

We pray with you, may Your will be done, that we may know and submit to His will individually and as His church, abiding in Christ, for if you remain in me, and my words remain in you, you will ask whatever you desire, and it will be done for you, John 15:7, and bearing fruit that proves we are His disciples, John 15:8, going and making disciples as He commanded, Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you, Matt 28:19-20.

And we bring our daily needs before Him with you, Give us today our daily bread, Matt 6:11, remembering man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God, Matt 4:4, and that our God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus, Phil 4:19, so that we may love the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, Mark 12:30, and love our neighbor as ourselves, Mark 12:31.

We confess our sins with you, for if we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, 1 John 1:8, and if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, 1 John 1:9, and we choose to forgive as we have been forgiven, praying for those who have sinned against us and entrusting them to Him who judges righteously, 1 Pet 4:19, for we know we must forgive that we may be forgiven, Matt 6:14-15.

We pray with you, Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one, Matt 6:13, that He would keep us from evil, John 17:15, and give His angels charge over us, Ps 91:11, for He is faithful and will not allow us to be tempted above what we are able, 1 Cor 10:13, and that we would watch and pray.

We give Him all glory, for Yours is the Kingdom, the power and the glory forever, Amen, for not to us, LORD, not to us, but to your name give glory, Ps 115:1, and that every promise is Yes and Amen in Christ, 2 Cor 1:20.

We pray together now, Our Father in heaven, we hallow Your holy name and thank You for making us Your children through Jesus Christ. Let Your Kingdom come in us and through us with love, joy, peace and holiness, and let Your will be done in our lives as it is in heaven. Give us this day all that we need in spirit, soul and body. Forgive us our debts as we forgive those who have sinned against us. Lead us away from temptation and deliver us from the evil one and from every evil work. Yours is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. We ask that You would deepen our prayer life, that we would not pray mindlessly but with understanding and fervency, for the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much, James 5:16, and that we would always pray in the name of Jesus, by whom alone we have access to You and by whom alone we are saved. We thank You for hearing us, for we ask all this in the mighty and precious name of Jesus, Amen.

We were so encouraged to read how deeply you have sat with the prayer Jesus taught us, wanting to honor the Father first and then bring your daily needs before Him. Thank you for sharing that reflection with us.

What you described is a pattern to live with, not a performance to get perfect. It is easy to turn even a beautiful outline into pressure, as if we have to cover every part correctly each time. We have found it helps to think of prayer more like training than trying. Small, steady time with the Lord over months and years shapes us far more than trying to pray everything flawlessly in one sitting. God is forming us slowly as we keep coming back to Him.

One simple way to keep this prayer alive and not mechanical is to linger with just one phrase for a few days at a time. This week it might be Hallowed be Your name, just asking Him to help us honor Him in our thoughts and words that day. Another week it might be give us our daily bread, bringing one real need to Him. That keeps the heart engaged without turning prayer into repetition.

We are praying for you as you continue to seek Him.

Father, thank You for drawing us to call You Father through Jesus. Teach us to honor Your name, to want Your kingdom and Your will in our lives, and to trust You for what we need each day. Keep us close to You and guard us from evil. We ask this in Jesus' name, Amen.

Your meditation upon the prayer which our Lord taught His disciples is very seasonable and full of edification, and I rejoice to see how you have laid hold upon it not as a form to be mindlessly repeated but as a pattern after which the soul may frame its ardent supplications.

You have rightly divided it as our Saviour Himself divided it. First, that which concerns the Father, His honor, His Kingdom and His Will, and secondly that which concerns our own necessity. This is to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, believing that all other things shall be added unto us.

When you say Our Father who is in heaven, you speak a word which no man could have dared to utter had not Christ purchased it for him with His own blood. He who was holy, harmless, undefiled and separate from sinners offered up Himself unto God by the horror of bearing human sin, that we who once stood outside the veil might now draw near. By that shed blood and risen life He has poured out the Spirit of adoption whereby we cry Abba, Father. Remember that this privilege rests upon a ransom found of God alone. Nobody would have thought of that way of deliverance of a sinner from the pit of hell through a ransom if God had not thought of it. He is gracious unto us and says, Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom. So you are not presuming when you say Father, you are pleading the finished work of the Beloved.

When you pray Hallowed be Your name, you pray for that which is the crowning work of God in man. Our Lord first prayed Holy Father, keep them, and again Keep them from the evil, but this negative blessing is not enough, therefore He cries Sanctify them. To hallow the name of God is to be separated from the world and from the hardness and carnality of our nature, and to be made fit for the Master's use. Holiness is an essential qualification to a man's fitness for being used of the Lord for the extension of His Kingdom. May the Lord grant that His gracious and compassionate name may be reverenced in your thoughts, words and deeds, and not dishonored by your life.

When you pray Your Kingdom come and Your Will be done on earth as it is in heaven, you pray for that Kingdom which is righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Ghost, with all the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. Deliverance from the power of sin is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and translated us into the Kingdom of His dear Son. Pray then that He would so rule in you that you may do justly and love mercy and walk humbly with your God, and that by human instrumentality which He is pleased to use, though the instrument itself is nothing without Him, the Gospel may run and be glorified till the Lord Himself shall come.

When you pray Give us this day our daily bread, remember that troubles do not spring out of the dust, but the Lord Himself kindles the furnace and sits as a Refiner. All your ills lie within the fence of omnipotent overruling, and your Father knows what you have need of. You may therefore ask with confidence for all that is needful for body and soul, for every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God, and for bread for the body also, that you may have strength to love Him with heart and soul and mind and to love your neighbor as yourself.

When you pray Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors, you come to that divine forgiveness where the Lord says I, even I, am He that blots out your transgressions. There is forgiveness with Him that He may be feared. Look to the clots of gore upon the brow of your Saviour and know that forgiveness flows only through that sacrifice which shows at once the Lord's hatred of evil and His resolve to be just. Having received so great a pardon, you will then find grace to forgive those who have sinned against you, entrusting judgment to Him who alone is appointed both to save and to judge, and praying for their repentance.

When you pray Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, you ask for that preservation which Christ sought for His people when He prayed Keep them from the evil. It is the prayer for positive holiness and for angelic keeping, that the Lord would keep back your soul from the pit and your life from perishing, and would deliver you from the evil one, from false ways and from the snares of this present evil world.

And when you close with Yours is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever, you acknowledge that deliverance is of the Lord, that He is the Agent who created all things and who alone can save, and that though He works by means, the power cannot be in the creature but must be in Him. Give Him then all the glory.

I join my supplications with yours, that the Lord would hear this prayer not as vain repetition but as the breathing desire of a living heart, that He would sanctify you wholly, keep you, provide for you, forgive you, and at last present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy. May you live after affliction to declare the works of the Lord, and find that He has chastened you sorely but not given you over unto death.

May the Lord fulfill in you every petition according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Amen.

Your meditation on the prayer the Lord taught us is well ordered and faithful to what He intended. He did not give these words to be repeated without thought, but as a pattern to shape our mind and desire when we come before the Father. To pray them with understanding and with earnestness is to learn what to seek and in what order to seek it.

You have rightly noted the order itself. First we seek the things of heaven, that His name be hallowed in our lives, that His kingdom come in righteousness and peace and joy, that His will be done by us on earth as it is done by the angels in heaven. Only after these do we bring our own need. This teaches us that the spiritual comes first and the bodily second. When the spiritual is set first, the rest finds its proper place.

Even the one petition that touches bodily life is made spiritual by its measure. We are taught to ask not for riches or luxury or abundant possessions, but for bread, and for bread for the day. This is given so that we may be freed from anxiety for tomorrow and learn to trust the Father for each day as it comes. In the same way we ask for the true bread that sustains the soul, for every word that proceeds from the mouth of God, that we may have strength to love Him and to love our neighbor.

You also pray as He commanded concerning forgiveness and deliverance. We ask, forgive our debts as we forgive our debtors, and so we are reminded that the mercy we receive must be the mercy we show. And we pray, lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, and by this we mean deliver us from the evil one. He is the irreconcilable foe, while a man, whatever he does against us, remains our brother to be prayed for, forgiven, and entrusted to God who alone judges and saves.

Continue to pray in this way, beginning with thanksgiving for the Son who shed His blood for our sins and rose and poured out the Spirit of adoption by which we cry Abba, Father. Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, bring your daily needs with simplicity, keep a forgiving heart, and ask for protection from the snares of the devil and for angelic keeping in the way. The Father hears such prayer offered through Jesus Christ, and all His promises in Christ are yes and amen.
