Shelter

Beloved of All
As winter comes in and I lost my job, I have to be out all day.
I don't like coming home as it's not nice, but there's nowhere to be and it hurts me to be out.
The local library is really bad and the hostel residents live in there during the day, so there's no space,
it's only a small library, nowhere to sit and relax and study and read as it's so full,
I don't have the money for cafes and I can't be home in the day as I'm in a shared house for working people.
Please, Jesus, help me, and help my plans to return to work despite the barriers I face.
Amen

We hear your heart and we join with you in bringing this burden before the Lord, for we know how heavy it is to face winter without work and without a place of rest during the day. It hurts to have nowhere to belong, to be out in the cold when your home does not feel like a shelter and the library and other public places offer no peace or space to sit and study and simply be warm.

We take comfort that you have called upon the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is in His name that we find our refuge and provision. As it is written, God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble Psalm 46:1, and He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of Yahweh, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust Psalm 91:1-2.

We are reminded of the Lord's promise to provide for our daily needs when we seek Him first. Therefore don't be anxious, saying, What will we eat, what will we drink or, With what will we be clothed For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first God's Kingdom, and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well Matthew 6:31-33. And we cling to the assurance that My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:19.

Together we pray for you.

Father, in the name of Jesus we lift up this dear one to You. You see the cold and the weariness of being out all day with nowhere to rest, the loss of work and the barriers that stand in the way of returning to it, and the ache of a house that does not feel like home. We ask You to be shelter and warmth, to open doors for a safe and quiet place to be during the day, whether through a church family, a community centre, or other provision that we have not yet seen. Provide for every physical need, for warmth, for food, for rest, and for the dignity of meaningful work. Guide every plan to return to work, remove the barriers that hinder, grant favor with employers and wisdom for each step, and let Your will be done. Comfort this heart with Your presence, lift discouragement and fear, and remind this one that You are near to all who call upon You. We ask that You would lead to a local body of believers who can offer practical help and fellowship in these winter months, for we know You place the lonely in families. Strengthen faith and hope day by day, and let Your peace guard heart and mind in Christ Jesus. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

We encourage you to keep bringing your plans before the Lord, for A man's heart plans his course, but Yahweh directs his steps Proverbs 16:9, and For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future Jeremiah 29:11. Do not be discouraged if doors seem closed right now. Continue to seek work diligently and also seek out the help that God often provides through His people. We encourage you to reach out to a faithful local church near you, not only for prayer but for practical support, for many churches offer a warm space, help with job searching, and fellowship during the week. Bring your need to them as you have brought it to the Lord.

We also pray that God will make your shared house more peaceful and that He will provide a more settled home in His timing. Remember that even when we feel without shelter, the Lord Himself is our dwelling place, and He promises Fear not, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness Isaiah 41:10. We will continue to stand with you in prayer that the Lord will provide daily shelter from the cold, open the right job opportunity, and give you a place of rest and study as winter continues, trusting that He who sees you now will not leave you without help.

We hear how tiring it is to be out all day with nowhere that feels restful, especially as it gets colder. Losing work takes away income, but it also takes away a place to be and a rhythm for the day, and when home does not feel welcoming and the library is crowded, it makes sense you feel worn down and unsettled.

We are praying for you as you carry these overlapping pressures around housing, money and work, and for wisdom as you make plans to get back to work despite the barriers you face.

One small step that has helped others in a similar spot is to ask about free warm spaces nearby for the winter months. Many churches, community centres and larger libraries in neighbouring areas keep a list of daytime places where you can sit quietly, stay warm, read or use wifi without needing to spend money. Your local council or a nearby church office can often point you to the closest one, and they may also know of employment support that can walk with you on next steps for work.

You are not forgotten in this in between season, and we want to keep praying with you.

Jesus, we lift this need to You, ask You to provide a safe warm place to rest each day, to open a good path back to work, and to give peace and strength for each step ahead. Give guidance and kindness from others along the way. In Your name we pray, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

It is a heavy burden to be cast out all day in the cold, with no work for your hands and no restful place for your body. The heart feels this double trial, to have a home that is not a home, and to find the doors that should be open, like the library, crowded and affording no quiet, and the purse too thin for any other shelter. The Lord sees this and knows it altogether, and He marks your going out and your weariness.

Yet there is a shelter that no winter can pierce and no poverty can close. The Scripture says, He shall cover you with His feathers and under His wings shall you trust. The Lord compares Himself to a hen covering her brood, and He speaks not only of wings which give shelter, but of feathers which give warmth and comfort and repose. Because you have made the Lord, which is your refuge, even the Most High, your habitation, there shall no evil befall you in the deepest sense, for your soul shall be kept. Christ is the true City of Refuge. There are not six Christs, there is but one, but there is a Christ everywhere, and the way is plainly marked Refuge that the weary sinner may flee to Him and be safe. As the cony has his cleft in the rock, so has God provided for man a Rock, and that Rock is Christ. He opens His side, the crimson cleft, that a soul may come and shelter there.

Even as a man needs the shelter of a hut or a house for his body, so he needs a refuge for his soul. I beseech you to flee first to that refuge which the mercy of God has provided in Christ Jesus. Trust His blood and righteousness, for He preserves all those who flee to Him for mercy, and His City of Refuge shall shelter you forever. And He who shelters the soul will not forget the body. He who shields the cony in the rock has not left man without a refuge.

I pray that the Lord who is your defense and the rock of your refuge will cover you in these winter days. May He in His tender providence open a door for honest labour for you, and give you favour and strength to overcome the barriers that stand in your way. May He provide for your daily bread and for a quiet place to sit and read and study and be restored, whether by grace in that house or by some other hand of His kindness. Cast your care upon Him, for He cares for you. Seek Him morning and evening, and rest under His wings till the cold is overpast.

May the Lord keep you beneath His feathers, sustain you as you seek work, and bring you in His good time to a settled and peaceful habitation. Amen.
